What do you think of this post? An ordered article or not???
-
Hi,
Just encountered the following article on Digital Trends: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/lg-z-rumored/
This is a huge and respected site. Notice, that whenever the word "smartphone" or "smartphones" is mentioned, there is a link to Sprint. Needless to say that Sprint has nothing to do directly with the article's subject (a new LG smartphone that may be coming soon).
So, is this an ordered piece? Is this legit? Does it assist Sprint with the article that is not really related? Should I pursue these type of articles (links) for my site or only HUGE companies can get away with it?
Any thoughts?

The links to sprint I am seeing are nofollowed. There is also a tag on them that suggests that they are being automatically inserted by software as part of an advertising program.
If that is correct then it is similar in nature to the way that programs like skimlinks work. They look for particular terms and place monetised links on them. If those links are no-followed then that would seem to be totally acceptable under Google guidelines. What they don't like is selling links that "pass page rank", which the nofollow prevents.
If you wanted to pursue that sort of approach then there are a number of programs and plugins that do this. Personally I prefer links styled in such a way to be styled differently, so that users can understand which links are paid and which are editorial.

You got it in one.
There's no doubt that this is paid link placement and/or an advertorial for Sprint. Furthermore, they have an Amazon affiliate link in there too (which is now a 404 error - I'd love to meet their editor).
You may be surprised how often big websites sell these links. In the UK, The Telegraph and Guardian newspapers are pretty notorious for it.
With links like this you're really playing with fire. Even big companies have been ruffled for links like these in the past, have a look at JC Penny and Interflora (although Interflora had a load of crap links that probably pulled the trigger).
Then again, Google think they can do it without any problems.
It's all part of the many hypocrisies in SEO. I can't say I'd recommend these links (above all else, there are cheaper ways to get equally as valuable links) - but however you decide to proceed, do so with caution.

Wordpress pages posts
Say you have a WordPress website with reviews and lists. Would you use "post" or "page" type for them? Is there any SEO advantage in using pages/subpages instead of posts?

Title Tags & Keyword Order
Hi I've read various articles on this - some saying it's still important to have the keyword at the beginning of the title and some saying it's not a big factor anymore? Does anyone have an opinion on this?

301 redirects in Wordpress vs. making old posts that you no longer want your audience to see private.
I'm working on Wordpress at the moment changing the content of a page on my website. The page has a lot of educational information and each section is unique. I had to go through and edit each section on google documents and now I'm posting all the new pages and making the old pages private on wordpress. Is this a good idea? I'm worried google will still crawl my private education pages and think these are duplicates since the new pages somewhat resemble the old. Also, should I be 301 redirecting all the old education pages to the corresponding new ones even if they are private on wordpress? I understand that the 301 redirect should only be used if you want the old page to go to a new one. What i don't understand id weather this will still be relevant or work if I've already made the old page private on wordpress. Thank You!

What do you do with outdated news and articles?
What do you guys do with your old content/news/articles? Do you just leave them on your site forever for historical reasons? It goes without saying that you wouldn't delete an article that has links pointing to it. But if there aren't any links, it doesn't rank and it doesn't receive traffic… do you just scrap it? How say you? Update: I would also like to throw in that I have a client who in 2006/2007 used content from another site. What would you do with that content after this amount of time? Bother with it?

Is this will post Duplicated Content
I have domain let say abcshoesonlinestore.com and inside pages of this abcshoesonlinestore.com is ranking very well such as affiliate page, knowledgebase page and other pages, HOWEVER i would like to change my home page and product page to shorter url which abcshoes.com and keep those inside page like www.abashoesonlinestore.com/affiliate or www.abcshoesonlinestore.com/knowledgebase as it is - will this pose duplicate content? This is my plan to do it: the home page and product page will be www.abcshoes.com and when people click www.abcshoes.com/affiliate it will redirect 301 to abcshoesonlinestore.com/affiliate HOWEVER if someone type abcshoesonlinestore.com or abcshoesonlinestore.com/product it will redirect to abcshoes.com or its product page itself (i want to use 302 instead 301 (ASSUMING if the homapage or product page have manual penalization or anything bad we want to leave it behind and start fresh JUST assume because i read some post that 301 will carry any bad thing to new site too) The reason i do not want to 301 from abcshoesonlinestore.com to abcshoes.com is because those many pages is ranking top 3 in GOOGLE ( i worry will lose this ranking since this bringing traffic for us) Is this good idea or bad idea or any better idea or should i try to see the outcome 🙂 - the only concern is from abcshoesonlinestore.com to abcshoes.com will pose as duplicate content if i do not use 301 - or can i use google webmaster tools to remove the home page and product page for abcshoesonlinestore.com can we tell google that? PS: (home page and product page will have new revise content and minor design change) but inside page will stay the same design Please give me some advise

SEOMoz Link Directory - As Silly as I think it is?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE SEOmoz, but their "Link Directory" (www.seomoz.org/directories) is a bit deceiving. I was looking for a list of DIRECTORIES that Moz recommends, not a bunch of places where you can pay for advertising. On top of that, it also lists dmoz as one of the spots to get links from, but have you ever actually ever been able to get a link from dmoz? I know I haven't, and we've been trying to get a link for years. Anyone else disappointed in this list? Does anyone have a good list of directories? -Andy P.S. I love you SEOmoz! Don't hate me for this critique!
