How bad are poor link profiles for a website?
-
A client has recently switched to us for their SEO and is hugely concerned about their previous company's link building efforts. They say that they have recently removed over 300 links but OSE still lists 160 links. So three questions:
-
How long will it take for OSE to recognise if the links have been removed?
-
How great could the effects of this be on the site's rankings?
-
If we continue to struggle with getting the links removed would Google's disavow tool make much of a difference or are there negatives that sould be considered first?
-
-
Many thanks, that is what I have been trying to explain to the client but they really are concerned about the penalty even though I can not see any evidence of it.
I am in the process of sorting out the their blog and a useful guide area so this will really help my argument.

Hiya,
First don't get too happy with removing links because unfortunately whist is may seem great to remove all the low links you need a broad ranks of link on a site and may do more harm than good if you remove all your low end link.
OSE can take a month to update so give it at least that before looking into removal.
The disavow is a great tool for removing bad links, make sure to try and get in touch with webmasters first though. A better method is to start building great content and work on building good links rather than focus too much on whats bad as I mentioned earlier most sites have a good variety of links.
Wish you the best of luck.

mydomain.com/category-for-major-keyword Now when people like to link to me, what should I do? Shall they link to: mydomain.com or mydomain.com/category-for-major-keyword What brings me more in terms of ranking for that keyword with my category? Thanks, Robin1 -
Where is the link prospecting tool?
I feel like last year when Moz was still SEOMoz I used a beta tool that would help you build a bunch of queries for link prospecting. You would tell it what your sites about and a few other pieces of information, and it would give you a list of google queries to get you started (ie inurl:directory <industryname> +"add site"</industryname>). However, I'm having a hard time finding this tool, or any reference to it on the web. It's also possible that it wasn't a moz tool but I'm misremembering where I found it. Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

Site Explorer shows links as followable but they have nofollow tags
Hello, I am looking at site explorer and sites linking to my site moneyfact.co.uk. I've got thousands of links showing as 'followable' but when i check them they have rel="nofollow" tags. e.g: http://www.dianomioffers.co.uk/partner/moneyfacts.co.uk/brochures.epl?partner=93&partner_id=93&partner_variant_id=33 Why would they show as followable when the links are nofollowed? Thanks Steve

When will links appear
When will links appear? Hi I submitted one of our products to a range of beauty bloggers and all of the reviews came back, really positive, along with links to our site. However when I run a back link report in open site explorer only one of these links is showing up even though the links all went live at about the same time. Can any one explain this in discrepancy?

Link reporting.
Is there a way in the Pro reporting where I can see a summary of the number of incoming links by type (blogs / news / wiki / dir / forums etc)? Even better, could the report give me an average Page Rank for each link type? Thanks,

Can I get a list of all links on a given domain?
Sorry, this is actually kind of a tripartite question: I was looking at the Competitive Link Analysis on one my clients' campaigns. Sometime between June and September their total links went up by about 120,000. We have no idea where those links came from (although the numbers would indicate that they're mostly internal). Question 1: In none of the other tools can I figure out how to list these links on a domain level. Is there a way to get a list of all links for our given domain? I've been playing around with the page-by-page and even that doesn't show me everything. For example, I'm looking at OSE for their homepage and it lists 45 links for a page that it claims has 151 total. Question 2: How did it pick those 45 to display out of the 151 possible? If these are only external links, why do half of them come from one of our subdomains? Also... Question 3: If our client hasn't made any major changes recently, why has the number of internal links gone up so dramatically? Thanks.
