Tracking Goals on a Subdomain?
-
What needs to be done to Analytics to track goal completions on a subdomain?
The main Analytics profile is set up for example.com, but landing pages for paid campaigns are set up at sub.example.com. Thank-you page is sub.example.com/thank-you.php
What needs to be modified in Analytics (or to the Analytics code) or how do the goals need to be set up to track these subdomain conversions all within the same Analytics profile? They're not tracking currently.
Thanks.

That seems to be working. I'll test it for a week and see what happens.
I tried that at some point, because that's also what I thought it should be, but it didn't work. Not sure what made the difference.
Thank you.

Oh, for your destination, if your profile is using relative URLs (/thankyou.html) you don't need to include the http://sub.example.com in your match, and if you did this may have been why it was not reporting data.

Ok, well in that case you don't want event tracking, you can just set visits to that page as a goal and get some even better reports.
Go to admin -> goals (right column) -> create goal -> type: destination
For goal details, just set the destination as regular expression match with this in the field:
/thank-you.php
This regex will match the destination page whether or not it is on a subdomain. You can also assign a value (usually the average conversion amount from transactions leading to that page) or throw in funnel steps if you'd like.
Hope this helps,
Chris Wilson

This is how they have it set up:
That's being used on both the domain and subdomains,
The goal in Analytics is set to track when people reach http://sub.example.com/thank-you.php, but it's not tracking.

What is your event tracking code and profile tracking code for the subdomain? I personally separate out subdomains into UA-xxxxxxx-2 and so on, but event tracking should still work if you have everything lumped into one subprofile.
Example profile tracking code:
Example event tracking code:
onClick="ga('send', 'event', 'Share', 'Facebook', 'Homepage Stat');"
or
onclick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Donate', 'Click']);"

Do custom tracking codes affect indexing?
Hello, My company uses a tracking system that allows our employees to apply a short code snippet to the end of our URLs for marketing attribution. An example of such a code would be: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/?ref_id=moz-test However, in Google Analytics we are seeing duplicates of our content, where the pages with the individual tracking codes are counted separately from the pages without. From a reporting perspective, this is annoying and definitely worth a fix. However, I'm curious if this problem is affecting our search potential as well. Could this tracking system be splitting traffic in Google's eyes? From an SEO perspective, how should we approach this? Would canonical tags fix this duplication issue in Google Analytics? Is there something else that we should use? Thanks in advance. The Moz community is incredible.

Tracking Pop Up Form Submission Events with GTM
Hello, I'm currently tracking contact form submissions any time a user clicks 'Submit' on a pop-up form. Once the form is submitted, the URL of the page remains the same (there is no /thank-you page or such like), hence needing to fire the Event based on a click. Problem is, even if the form is not actually submitted and a user just clicks the Submit button without filling in the fields, the Event will still fire. I know there is a way to ensure the Event ONLY fires when the form is actually submitted for real, but I don't know how to implement that in GTM. Any help most appreciated 🙂 Cheers, Gill.

Setting up goals in Google Analytics
Hello! This question is seems so obvious that I'm also ashamed to ask... almost. If the goal of a website is to have a visitor complete a contact form, when setting up the Goal in Google Analytics (as a "URL destination") the URL of choice would be the form's thank you page, correct? Because that's the page that proves the visitor completed the task we want them the achieve. Right? Thanks!

Google Analytics Goal Funnel Visualization Issue
I've setup a goal funnel but am having an issue when I look at the funnel visualization. It doesn't appear to be recognizing the 1st step of the funnel that I've defined in the goal edit page. The "Property Listing page view" is located at /listings/xxx where xxx is the number of the property. Within the funnel, I've added /listings/*, but when I go to see the funnel visualization, I see 0 counts for this step (even though it clearly shows on the entrance page to the left "/listings/622, etc". I've attached a .pdf with a few images to help make this clearer. Any thoughts? CRD-Funnel.pdf

Campaign tracking and duplicate content
Hi all, When you set up campaign tracking in Google Analytics you get something like this "?variable=value parameters" in the URL. If you place such a link on your site as an internal link, will it be considered as a different URL and will have its own link value? The question I have is, since Google knows it's a Google link and knows the original URL (by stripping the tags), does it pass link value to the original URL? If not, what can be done to pass link value? Thanks in advance. Henry
