Page Rank vs Page and Domain Authority - who wins?
-
A client has found another SEO agency promising various things to do with link building. Most of these promises are based upon links from sites with allegedly high page ranks. So my questions:
-
Page rank seems to be fading out am I safe to stay with PA and DA metrics instead?
-
I don't agree with link building tactics and feel that it should more a networking activity to provide USEFUL links to users... am I being too white hat and missing opporunities?
-
The other company have promised long list of links including 100 SEO friendly web directory listings, 200 PR 8 back links from Pinterest (which i thought was no follow) & 10 long lasting and high quality mini web sites (with three pages/posts, video and pictures). Am I right that this all sounds a little spammy or is this really what I should be doing for me clients?

You should be for now but look across multiple metrics as leaning on one too much can give you false ideas. Worse case you can always use your Serp pos. but PA & DA are always a safe bet.

Sounds great to me and good for a long term SEO tactic you may miss out short term but in long term which is always nicer your safe. If it benefits the user I recommend it!

200 PR 8 back links from Pinterest (which i thought was no follow) Pintrest links are follow & 10 long lasting and high quality mini web sites (with three pages/posts, video and pictures). Am I right that this all sounds a little spammy or is this really what I should be doing for me clients?
It is a little spammy but unfortunately it can work but it would work short term and only be a quick fix. I wouldn't recommend this as a service
Your tactics sound fine to me keep it white hat and keep on the ball whilst spamming micro sites and directories seem great Google is always trying to stamp this kind of manipulation out and rather then fight Google why not go with it? create some content users want to naturally share and talk about etc.
It's a longer benefit for everyone to have great content on your site that makes people want to go to your site rather than cheat them onto your site where at the end of the day may just result in a bounce.
Of course your welcome to look into it more and that's all opinion but content is king for most SEO practices
Thanks & good luck.

A tale of two pages - one ranks great and one doesn't - but they are set up the same way
Hi everyone, First time poster 🙂 I will keep it simple - we have two pages on our website that are set up in the same way (or so we think) but achieve vastly different search engine rankings. We have spent weeks trying to figure out why this should be the case, but to no avail. Perhaps you guys can do a little diagnosis and see what we are missing: for search term: used machine tools www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools Is working well for us. for search term: new machine tools www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools is a disaster 😞 In fact, Google ranks our home page which is optimised for other terms, higher. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Domain Authority Goes Down After Https change
We just moved our domain from http to https. We have been at a solid 89 for domain authority for the past year, but this month we are now at 88. Does changing to https cause the domain authority to go down and is this just a temporary fluctuation?

Google updated their algorithm. How up to date is OpenSiteExplorer's Domain and Page authority?
Hi guys, as we all know, Google Panda update is here and it changed how they rank inbound links and the linkers domain and page authority. But when I look at OpenSiteExplorer's results, I cant see a difference in the page and domain authority. Why is that?

Truncate page URLs
We have some pages (for example a contact us form) for which the URL is modified by the CMS depending on the referring page (this helps to put the form submission in context for the sales reps who get the contact submission). The SEOmoz crawler considers each URL a new page -- and so numbers like in diagnostics are all inflated as the same page is listed multiple times (e.g. for too many links) Is there a setting to change what the crawler considers to be the same page? Here are two URLs for the same page that the reports treat as separate pages: http://www.spirent.com/About-Us/Contact_us.aspx?referurl=0F528F4D703D8BB3523738D6373AA8AD http://www.spirent.com/About-Us/Contact_us.aspx?referurl=10ACDA6055244E369395223437FDCF30 The page is actually: http://www.spirent.com/About-Us/Contact_us.aspx Thanks Ken

Ranking
Why is comunicatedepresa.net ranking better than comunicatedepresa.ro for the term "comunicate de presa" Absolutely ALL the factors (links, domains linking, authority, onpage etc) seem to say that comunicatedepresa.ro should have ranked better.

Rankings failure?
The rankings for all our keywords, and for our competitors as well as us, according to SEO moz have all but completely dropped off the radar. For the vast majority of the keywords, both us and our competitors are showing as not even in the Top 50, despite previously being top 20, first page and top 3 for a large number of them. What's happened? Would this be due to Google, or has some sort of error occurred seoMoz's end? The rankings have dropped so badly for all four websites I can't believe for a second they're real. Thanks.

I've used the on page grade and now have all my pages at a grade A for relevant keywords. Most of them are cool, achieveing first page rankings apart from a few massive keywords. So the question is, what's next? What do i do now that I'm at grade A, but perhaps not #1 yet... Cheers -dan
