A tale of two pages - one ranks great and one doesn't - but they are set up the same way
-
Hi everyone,
First time poster
I will keep it simple - we have two pages on our website that are set up in the same way (or so we think) but achieve vastly different search engine rankings. We have spent weeks trying to figure out why this should be the case, but to no avail. Perhaps you guys can do a little diagnosis and see what we are missing:
for search term:
used machine tools
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools
Is working well for us.
for search term:
new machine tools
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools
is a disaster In fact, Google ranks our home page which is optimised for other terms, higher.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Look at to your Search Console and see your backlinks and internal links
1 - search console > search traffic > links to your site
2 - search console > search traffic > links to your siteBefore to start an outreach stratege you have to make sure of accomplish all the technical seo tasks. Add Canonical Tags, internal link structure, header optimization an so on
What I'm traying to say is first improve your page (onsite optimization).
You have to optimize the page "New Machines " but you can not doit without optimize other ones. For me the best tool for that are semrush, moz, ahrefs and of course Search Console

I am assuming this is a matter of competitor and also internal/external links pointing to the particular page. I would increase the quality (add more unique content, pictures) of the unranked page, add some internal links to it, and re-index it with Google Search Console's Fetch and Render tool.

Hi Roman,
Yes - this seems more on the right track for me, as there are measurable differences for the pages based on the following metrics:
Links 2
Reffering Domians 2
Keywords 20
I will use the Moz tools to check these out. By way of further explanation as to why we are so stumped by this problem, here are two summaries of our analytics performance for the two pages over the same period - the differences seem unbelievable:
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools
284 sessions, 74.91% new sessions, Organic referrals 246
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools
5 sessions, 80% new sessions, Organic referrals 4
I will update the thread. Any other suggestions are welcome!

Hi Shalu,
Thank you for your answer. However, our competition, that we benchmark against, has far less content on page than we do. To make matters more interesting, this page:
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-used-machine-tools
ranks second to the competitions page for the search term: used machine tools
but this page:
www.machinetoolsonline.co.za/buy-new-machine-tools
ranks 51+ to the competitions number 1 ranked page for the search term: new machine tools
It's the sheer difference, when the pages are so very similar from a content structure perspective (they each focus on new or used machines of course) that I cannot understand.

I think that, a good outreach strategy, can make a big difference in your traffic and your authority, so you can create 10 or 20 post (can hire a freelance copywriters), very well written post, of course make the keyword research and then look for some guest post where you can send your articles with links pointing to your site.
-Buzzstream for me is the best tool for Outreach

Keep in mind to you have to find, I really useful website with the same level of your page, remember the anchor text of those links needs to be related with the topic and keywords of your page -
I have gone through your webpages and found that it has lack of quality contents in comparison to the pages that are ranking better than yours. The possible reasons for both of two could be high competition. You need to optimize your webpages as per the quality parameters.

What's my best strategy for Duplicate Content if only www pages are indexed?
The MOZ crawl report for my site shows duplicate content with both www and non-www pages on the site. (Only the www are indexed by Google, however.) Do I still need to use a 301 redirect - even if the non-www are not indexed? Is rel=canonical less preferable, as usual? Facts: the site is built using asp.net the homepage has multiple versions which use 'meta refresh' tags to point to 'default.asp'. most links already point to www Current Strategy: set the preferred domain to 'www' in Google's Webmaster Tools. set the Wordpress blog (which sits in a /blog subdirectory) with rel="canonical" to point to the www version. Ask programmer to add 301 redirects from the non-www pages to the www pages. Ask programmer to use 301 redirects as opposed to meta refresh tags & point all homepage versions to www.site.org. Does this strategy make the most sense? (Especially considering the non-indexed but existent non-www pages.) Thanks!!

Best way to rank an E-commerce site fast? [GOOGLE]
Does anyone have experience in ranking E-commerce sites? I'm trying to rank 1000+ subcategorys and 300+ products. All less than 1k Exacts some are just 20ish some go up to 1k. I've used Traffic Travis all keywords are ranked as [Easy] along with the tools here. My competition have 0 backlinks to there sites. Some sites have PR1-4 (only 2-3 per SERP rest are 0 so should be quite easy. However I'm up against Amazon and Google shopping for the products. Anyways what would you guys recommend me do?

Duplicate page errors
I have 102 duplicate page title errors and 64 duplicate page content errors. They are almost all from the email a friend forms that are on each product of my online store. I looked and the pages are identical except for the product name. Is this a real problem and if so is there a work around or should I see if I can turn off the email a friend option? Thanks for any information you can give me. Cingin Gifts

Alexa Ranking Sites
I found these two sites giving my competitor link juice: http://www.webnamelist.com/alexa/Alexa_186.html http://www.list-of-domains.org/alexa/Alexa_185.html I have seen these sites before and I just dont get why they are authoritative. The funny thing is I did a search for my competitors link on the page and its not showing up, is this a problem in site explorer? Why is site explorer mentioning these sites as my competitions best links when these links do not exist on their site?

Strange Ranking On 1st Page Of Google For Competitive Keyword
Hey all, So, I've noticed a site ranking on the first page in Google for a keyword that I have been targeting for years. The keyword is "mixtapes" and pretty competitive. The site, http://www.newyorkmixtapes.com is ranking around #4 in Google. It seemed odd to me so I looked into the site using some of the tools here. Open Explorer showed that they have minimal links. The actual site is pretty spammy also. Does anyone have any idea how this site ranked so high so fast? Is it ranking because I am located in New York? Does Google still put lots of weight on exact match domains? It's just been bothering me because it's a keyword that I put a lot of work into and then the site rolls around an ranks well for it with barely any backlinks. I just wanted to put it out there and see if I'm missing something obvious. Thanks everyone!

On Page missing keywords
I setup my keywords on SEOMoz properly but the On Page result just shows me 2 keywords instead of the 7 that I set for my campaign. I was expecting the application to score the other keywords on wednesday but it did not add the missing keywords. Is this a bug?
