Switching the IP?
-
I am currently in the process of migrating a site, the domain will stay the same, it will go from example.com to example.com. The only thing that is changing is the IP address and the host. The server's will still be in America.
I have done research on this question and have gotten varied answers, some saying that the ip change will affect the SEO rankings depending on where country is, and some saying that Google only looks at the URL not the ip address in terms of rankings. Does anyone have an answer so I can be prepared and mitigate as much damage as possible?

Thanks for that. What you are experiencing by the way could be because the server does not have a reverse dns entry. A lot of servers do not come with those and that could also be affecting your ability to send out email. Also be sure that your spf records are setup correctly so that they are viewed as credible. I had a similar issue a while ago, and it had very little to do with my ip and very much to do with a lack of a reverse dns. Also, you should run a blacklist check on the mail ip to ensure that it is not listed on 1 of the 150 spam lists. I use mxtoolbox to check that. Hope that helps.

Jason,
We have had experience with this, and here is what we found. First it did NOT hurt our SEO scores from any of the measuring company's or metrics.
Where we did see an improvement is our website performance. We are now on a stand alone server, so our performance has greatly improved, and we are able to present a page much faster. In addition, server crashing has greatly improved. Where we have seen a hit is our ability to automatically send an e-mail "order shipped" response. Our e-mail message is getting refused by certain e-mail hosts, specifically ATT based address. Somehow the server space provider has a block of IP address that have been marked as not so desirable. We never send out spam, but it seems that someone close to our IP address block does, so the entire IP block is rejected by ATT.
So to answer your question the IP address has not caused a SEO reset or degrade of our Authority or rank, however you should be cautious about what your neighbors are doing with respect to sending out e-mails. Perhaps you could get a list of IP address that your hosting provider uses, then check those address with respect to spammers, before you commit to a hosting provider.

SEO impact of 301 redirects based on IP addresses from a specific state
Hello Moz Community! We are facing an issue that may or may not be unique, but need some advice and/or clarification on the best way to address the issue. We recently rebranded and launched a new site under a new domain and things have been progressing well. However, despite all the up front legwork on trademarks and licensing, we have recently encountered a hiccup that forces us to revert to the old URL/branding for one specific state. This may be a temporary issue that lasts a couple of months or it could potentially be in the court system for a couple of years. One potential solution we have discussed is to redirect the new site to the old site based on IP addresses for the state in question. Looking for any guidance on what type of impact this may have on SEO. Also open to any other suggestions or guidance on dealing with this situation. Thanks

Traffic impact from switching hosting.
Good Afternoon! Does anybody know what sort of impact I can expect to see from switching hosting? Not only that but how long it takes to come back from that sort of thing? Our website has steadily been dropping since I took it over about a month ago. I have been slowly, tediously trying to prune the bad stuff, and one of our issues is with out host. Any thoughts would be great! Thanks.

Content Transfer for Penguin Induced Domain Switch
One of my customers has a mature site that performs very well in ranking and traffic for major keywords, prosun.com. A few years ago we started welproma.com because they were changing their name and branding. We built up welproma.com as an eventual replacement and ramped up to 30% of the Prosun.com traffic. Penguin hit a bit in 2012 but very bad May 24, 2013 and it keeps getting worse. Now they are backing out of the name change, reverting back to prosun.com as the main website. Unfortunately the Welproma.com content is far better in quantity and quality so we would prefer not to waste it. Does anyone think it is a problem to take essentially the exact content from the newer, penalized site and move it to the older well performing site. We will use no links whatsoever between the two sites and take down the new one once we switch.

Malicious site pointed A-Record to my IP, Google Indexed
Hello All, I launched my site on May 1 and as it turns out, another domain was pointing it's A-Record to my IP. This site is coming up as malicious, but worst of all, it's ranking on keywords for my business objectives with my content and metadata, therefore I'm losing traffic. I've had the domain host remove the incorrect A-Record and I've submitted numerous malware reports to Google, and attempted to request removal of this site from the index. I've resubmitted my sitemap, but it seems as though this offending domain is still being indexed more thoroughly than my legitimate domain. Can anyone offer any advice? Anything would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, Doug

Should I Re-Direct Based Upon IP
I am working on an e-commerce store. There are 4 subdomains for 4 seperate languages. ie uk.business.com, fr.business.com etc The client is asking that any French speaker (French IP address) is only shown the FR subdomain and so on for all languages. Is this the best way of doing things, or am I better off without the re-direct.

Is IP trust a factor in SEO
Hi If my website is on an IP address that has a bad reputation with AOL for email, would Google use that as a factor in where they place us in SERPs? If so, what should I do? Matt

Unique Ip Hosting Question
We have aged domains that have had unique ips for some time. Batch 1 average 2 years old and are in 1st to 5th place in their rankings. Batch 2 are 8 months old and not ranking at all. Will there be any issues associated with moving them all to a reseller account with a single ip address? In addition batch 1 that has good rankings with unique ips is there ever a possibility they will change our ips without notice or for any reason at all that will change and or fluctuate our rankings?
