Good examples of video marketing by service businesses?
-
Do you know of any service businesses (ie not software or SaaS) that uses video marketing effectively?
Especially any company offering more than one service. Just for example, a training company of any kind.Literally anything that comes to mind will help me so, so much. My Google-fu is failing me on this one.

I'm biased because I created the strategy...
But I think we do pretty decent stuff with video at Distilled. We offer training, consulting and conferences as our products.
Our YouTube channel - http://youtube.com/distilledseo is filled with loads of informational content designed to increase our brand awareness. This content also lives on our blog
We have video all around our website designed to improve conversions and sell our identity as a business e.g. https://www.distilled.net/contact/ https://www.distilled.net/about/people/benjamin-estes/
Then we have an entire library of premium video content which you have to pay to access http://www.distilled.net/store/landing/ . This stuff is way deeper in the conversion funnel, but helps to get us bigger customers and high value contracts.

It depends a lot on what you're going for. For example this video of a tiny cat wearing a tiny hat eating a tiny ice cream cone as an ad for an ice cream company has hundreds of thousands of views: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMnpWYaCKB0
As a person, I love this video. I show everyone, it's kind of ridiculous. As a marketer, I'm curious about it's value in terms of direct human visits to the ice cream shop. I've seen this video many many times, and for the life of me as I write it I can't think of the name of the shop. I'm also east coast based, so my love of small cats doesn't transfer into money for their shop. Obviously they're building brand awareness (and improving their rankings) but they aren't necessarily bringing people in the door.
Conversely, lots of law firms (my specialty, shameless plug) and other complicated service companies will have informational videos on various parts of their practice. It usually does very little for SEO since these videos barely break 1000 views, sometimes even 100. However, we've noticed a great return on these ads, since they fulfill a specific need, and are so highly specific (long tail search for location, type of lawyer, specific legal claim) that the few people who do see them are generally far in the buying cycle, and contact us.
It really depends what your goals are. Finally, this article on the moz blog " A SEO's Guide to Video Hosting and Embedding" is very helpful. :http://moz.com/blog/hosting-and-embedding-for-video-seo

I love video marketing. Here are several examples of companies doing this very well.
FUNERAL INSURANCE COMPANY DELA: "WHY WAIT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE? [video]" - This is a funeral insurance company for goodness sake and they still blew this one out of the park. Amazing!
Carrie remake - Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise - This was arguably the most viral video of the last couple weeks.
Pepsi MAX & Jeff Gordon nascar hidden camera - This is just plain funny (even though it was found out to be fake later)

Photos or Video Best for Landing Pages?
My real estate brokerage firm is promoting a listing via advertising on LinkedIn. The advertising links to a landing page: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/MidtownLawOfficeSublet3300SFBelowMarket Rather than photos, the landing page has a 1 minute video. So far we have had about 10 visits to the page. Visitors leave the landing page after a few seconds. So they are not looking at the video. Would it be better to replace the video with photos? Or is engagement generally better with video? My thinking is that business owners may not have the patience or the time for a video and they would more likely have the time and willingness to click on photos. I would be willing to test this further, but at $5/click it could get costly! Any thoughts?

Have My SEO Cake & Eat It - Mix Viral Content & Business Content?
Hello, I optimize for a fashion, eCommerce site which has catalogue pages and product pages. http://www.zando.co.za/ We're currently working on a large "blog" which tons of great content designed to attract readers, links and tons of long tail traffic. We'll be doing how-to videos, celeb interviews, top-tens, etc. etc. We'll even have a UGC community section eventually. Really great. Now, I want to use the links generated by this section to rank for generics like this: For example: I want to rank for "Lingerie" and I have this page set up as the target: http://www.zando.co.za/women/clothing/lingerie/ I create some amazing content that generates lots of links containing the word "lingerie" . That awesome content lives in:(hypothetical URL:) http://www.zando.co.za/fashion/magazine/how-lingerie-has-changed-over-50-years/ I want to (and this is where you come in 😉 get people linking to my catalogue page (http://www.zando.co.za/women/clothing/lingerie/) where they can find a banner or something alluding to that piece of link bait (the /fashion/magazine/ url). Perhaps similar to the Wordpress style <read more="">page break on posts?</read> Reason is, I want my "Money-Page" to get the links with "Lingerie" in it. Problem is, it'll be another click to the thing they want to find. Also, say I decide a few months later that I want to do another piece, like "lingerie in films" and do the same. My 'banner' idea would get very crowded or, it would mean that I bump the 50-years piece, which then makes for bad UX for readers clicking through looking for the old piece. Or perhaps this can all be solved with good design? Here's a WBF talking about mixing content: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/mixing-viral-content-with-business-content-whiteboard-friday Does anyone have an example of someone doing this well? PS. Was also thinking that on my "archive'' url, in between the content, I'll query for the top products that, that piece speaks to and make it possible for people to add to cart as they're reading the link bait content that is relevant to the product. Cheers Paul.

Does adding a well scripted and produced video help significantly in conversions from visits to my divorce lawyer website to calls for my services?
Should the addition of well scripted and produced video to my divorce lawyer website increase my conversions and, if so, to what extent?

Video Conversions
1)I have observed that female voice converts more then male voice in videos. Any one had experienced this stat? 2)Videos without person reading the slides, what's your take on this? As far as my experiences I have made some videos with music background only, but it seems like that videos with person's voice convert more. Is there any video regarding video conversions and video backlinks.

Good platform for SEO and CRO
From Seomoz thread it looks like many mozzers favor WordPress when it comes to choosing a platform that is optimal for SEO. While I agree I would like to ask your opinion on platforms for CRO.

Which platform do you think works best for SEO practices and CRO posibilites? It would be great if employees that don't have expert knowledge in PHP and HTML would be able to move contact forms around, places different banners next to the blog post depending on what content they post etc. In this case the meaning is that the website will be built by a professional and used by all different kind of employees with various web design / coding skills. Have a great day everyone!0 -
When is it good to use target="_blank"
Hi! Just wondering about user experience and when to use target="_blank" in links on the website. Let's take homepage, for example. Is it better to have social media icons (for Facebook page or Twitter or Google+ page) open in a new window on homepage? When is it appropriate to use target="_blank" and when using it is too much for a user to handle? Am I right to say that target="_blank" should be used when you don't want that link to get on the way of what visitor is doing? What's best for conversion? If you have some resources on the subject - feel free to share them. Thanks! I appreciate all responses!
