SEO Audit after Penguin 2.1 what are you guys seeing? this is my thougts
-
We have looked at around 2000 sites since Penguin 2.1 launched a few weeks back. These include our customers and their own competitors site. We are going through all the data which is obviously going to take some time. Hopefully we will publish a report on our findings as we are happy to share.
What I currently see in my early analysis is
Roughly 70% of sites tested have 0% exact match Anchor Text for their money keywords.
The other 30% have less than 5% exact match Anchor Text.
The quality of the links is often still poor to the sites ranking on page 1.
The content surrounding the links is only about 10-15% of the time related to the money keywords.
The loading time of the sites ranking seems to not matter, we encountered a lot of slow sites.
Design and usability of the site was not important.
We are not seeing much impact via Social media, a lot of these sites are small business
Less than 10% of sites on page 1 had a Google+ account
More than 40% of page 1 sites had Facebook profiles.
More than 80% of the sites ranking on page 1 had less than 100 links to the landing page that ranked
What are your opinions of helping to recover if hit by the above???
Q) If you have too high an anchor text percentage and have been hit or may get hit in the future would you.
a) create some more high quality links with more varied anchor text, ie Click here, brand name etc
b) not create any more links just remove the links you have to dilute the anchor text
c) change the anchor text on links you are able to
These figures are a work in progress so data will change just wanting to share our early findings and try to get a good conversation going.

Does cached duplicate content hurts seo by Google
If we have duplicate content or pages cached in Google which has been indexed months back, still it hurts the original pages? Old URLs with cache can be seen now in Google when we search for the same URLs.

Penguin Hops
Has anyone else noticed that sites that seem to have gone through a positive penguin recovery after 3.0 had results jumping around? It seems to be happening with the biggest keywords that were damaged by Penguin 2.1 but we are seeing jumps from Page 2 in the morning to Page 12 in the afternoon. It seems very unstable at the moment and I was wondering if anyone else is seeing something similar?

SEO Strategy Audit
Greetings Mozzers. I would really appreciate some input / advice / a sanity check on our existing SEO strategy. A year into implementing the strategy (outlined below) there appears to be no uplift in our existing traffic volume. I guess i'm wondering. Am I on the right track? Is there something I'm perhaps additional should be doing / i'm doing something wrong? Am I suffering from Penguin? The strategy: We produce a range of content, this is written 100% for our audience, How-to guides, infographics, industry news etc. - this has lead to getting a wide range of publications with high powered relevant domains, widely shared and read. As a result we now have a series of ongoing columns where we regularly produce articles that our widely read and shared. We have a wide variety of homepage and deep links from quality sources. We have our own blog producing a wide range of content relevant to our audience. Industry trends, news, changes that affect our readers, guides. We optimise our pages using the Moz Page Grader for select keywords. We've structured our site architecture appropriately for the most important pages. Additional info: We received a WMT penalty last year in march - unnatural links. We engaged an SEO agency who simply went rogue, automated link building with spun articles. We fired the agency, asked them to remove the links they had "created" and set about a resubmission. Between March and May when we made our resubmission traffic dropped 40%. Now we did have he resubmission accepted after several reconsiderations but whilst we've seen a slight recovery we have plateaued for almost a year. This penalty obviously straddles the time penguin arrived, so I wonder if perhaps we haven't seen a recovery as we are still affected by penguin. Despite all the great work we have done. If anyone has any advice or insight, please do get in touch.

2 Domains With Same Name But 1 With A Number
We have been marketing a website for a client with a domain name example2.com. Their main site example.com is used to post information about their services and example2.com is their eCommerce site they use to sell their products. After the Google Penguins update, we have lost all rankings for example2.com. We did not do any unethical, black hat SEO and I am pretty sure its wasn't just mistakenly blocked. We use the same strategy for our other clients and they have not been impacted. Do you guys think the domain name has anything to do with it? Whats odd it example.com is now ranking for some keywords that example2.com used to rank for. We have never marketed that website or anyone else for that matter. I have been scratching my head over this one for the past week and this is the only feasible problem I can think of.

SEO Link building / Article Distributation
Quick question in regards to link building and OFF PAGE SEO... Why isn't Articles distributation via wire services considered a "Duplicate Content" issue by Google? i.e. If take the one article and post it accross 50 (do follow) websites, Press release sites, and blogs. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this. Regard, Sammy

Are you seeing changes in your sites today? Panda 2.2?
I've heard rumblings of some Panda sites recovering in the last few days and wondered if the talked about Panda 2.2 has been rolled out. My own site (which actually had a significant boost after Panda) has seen a significant increase in traffic today (started about noon EST yesterday) and a nice increase in Adsense revenue as well. How are your sites doing?

What are the good strategies using satellite sites in SEO??
Hello to everybody, We'are thinking about launching a massive amount of satellite websites in order to promote our website. Is it really efficient in terms of link building? Or is the ROI really small due to the amount of time and money needed to create and manage these websites? Thanks a lot!!! Update: Thanks to all of you for all these interesting answers!
