Facebook shared vs liked
-
Hi, looking at the "Open Site Explorer" I see :
| Times Shared on Facebook: | 12 | 25 | 7 | 8 | -- |
| Facebook Likes | 0 | 4 | 5 | 9 | -- |But what is the differencebetween Times Shared on Facebook and Facebook Likes??

Thanks Mike

Social signals can lead to a decent boost for a website. With the "downfall" of linking, many have looked to signals from social media sites as the new natural expression of a site's worth to their user base and as social proof of authority. It won't necessarily make you rank better in search results but it can be an integral part of the conversion funnel.

Thank you, I am considering putting AddThis buttons on my page https://www.addthis.com/get/sharing. So when I get their "share" buttons I get a facebook "like" button. Does this really matter in SEO performance do you think??
-
The difference is literally that one involves liking a page and one involves sharing a page. They are two separate functions that can be done independently of each other, i.e. I can Share your article without having to Like your website & I can Like pages on your site but not choose to share them. A Share is the use of the Share Button to share/post a page, article, etc. to a person's timeline, a friend's wall, and/or the timeline of a page that the person's account is associated with as an Admin. Whereas a Like is someone clicking a Like button associated with a page, article, etc. stating that they like/enjoy it.

OSE and Facebook
Hi, I recall being able to use OSE for Facebook. Take https://www.facebook.com/VICE/ which we know as a URL would have many backlinks. It's not registering any. Has this always been the case?

Why is Envato.com structured like it is.
Envato.com is a marketplace for various things. They act as an umbrella for 8 different websites that fall underneath them and each one offers a specific thing. Is there any SEO benefit to doing this? Wouldn't it have been better off for them build all of these into envato.com. i.e. envato.com/themeforest as opposed to the current ThemeForest.net The only thing I can think of really is branding? Let's assume that they didn't do this because they needed space to house all of the digital data or anything like that.

Competitive Link Comparison vs. Open Site Explorer
I get different external followed links showing in the Competitive Link Comparison vs. Open Site Explorer. The total number of links is different as well. I thought this was the same info - just one tracks ongoing and one is just a "one-off" tool. Is this not the case? Do the count links differently? Thanks! Kevin

Terminology -branded vs non-branded
I never say nor used these terms before joining SEO moz. can someone explain what this is and how it affects your analytics. SEOmoz actually has a way to select branded words and treats them differently. What is the point or benefit of this? How do you use this to help you with analytical deconstruction.

Too Many On-Page Links: Crawl Diag vs On-Page
I've got a site I'm optimizing that has thousands of 'too many links on-page' warnings from the SeoMoz crawl diagnostic. I've been in there and realized that there are indeed, the rent is too damned high, and it's due to a header/left/footer category menu that's repeating itself. So I changed these links to NoFollow, cutting my total links by about 50 per page. I was too impatient to wait for a new crawl, so I used the On Page Reports to see if anything would come up on the Internal Link Count/External Link Count factors, and nothing did. However, the crawl (eventually) came back with the same warning. I looked at the link Count in the crawl details, and realized that it's basically counting every single '<a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p=""></a> <a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p="">1. Is no-follow a valid strategy to reduce link count for a page? What metric does the On-Page Report use to determine if there are too many Internal/External links? Apologies if this has been asked, the search didn't seem to come up with anything specific to this.</a>

SEOMoz SERP Overlay Vs. Opensite Explorer
This may be a simple answer, but when I search for a term and see a website on the SERP, the SEOMoz tool bar shows link data beneath the link. For this site in particular, it shows 300+ links for the root domain and for the page, it shows 8 links. When I put that website in opensite explorer, it shows the same data for the "Page" stats (8 links from 3 root domains), but nowhere can I find where the 315 links from 4 domains comes from. So my questions is why do those links show in the SERP overlay, but not in OSE? il5y9.png
