Good alternative to guest blogging
-
Hi,
After many years of on-page I've just started in the world of link building and I'm currently working on an e-commerce website.
I've noticed that most blogs devoted to this sector that are worth their salt will only accept guest blog requests for payment.
So here's the question, is there any way to circumvent this? Is there any other way to achieve the same results I would with guest blogging without having to pay for it?
Thanks in advance

Hi Aaron
If the website is new I would still encourage you to build a blog of articles on the site showing your expertise for the products the site is selling. Also share the articles in social media channels including Google+ by publishing snippets of each one (i.e. headline + intro) with a link through to read the full article on the website.

Thanks Peter for your reply.
The main issue I have is that the website is very new and is hardly ranking yet so even though I have made up an on-site blog I still need that boost that will get it a high amount of exposure in a short amount of time.
Is there any other way besides just hoping it will catch on?

Probably. If you were doing guest blogging just for the purpose of a link, I'm sorry to say, you were trying to manipulate rankings.
Now, I would recommend creating excellent content. See what others don't have and do it. Say you sell sunglasses, then research others to see what they are missing that you can probably offer (more images? detailed descriptions? experts' opinions?, whatever works). Once you create that content just sit tight and keep doing it; sooner or later, links will come, but most importantly, you are offering something more valuable to your customers, and therefore earn rankings just by creating the content (even though no links were earned yet).

Hi Aaron
With the way search has been changing it's difficult to say 'this' is comparable to 'that'.
I assume you are already blogging on the eCommerce site and creating good quality content there? If not, then I would recommend starting with that and I certainly wouldn't recommend paying to guest blog. In fact it raises the question how can a guest blog be a "guest blog" if you pay for the privilege. Sounds more like a paid link which I wouldn't recommend.
If you have expertise in an area to share and blogs in your space value that expertise then they will offer you the opportunity.

Unsolved Are links from staff profile pages no longer good for SEO?
Hey there, We run a small site that lists lawyers and we have an opportunity to ask the lawyers to display a 'badge' on their own website's staff page, linked back to the page on our site that they are listed on. Initially I thought this would be good link building (i.e. the lawyer's own staff/profile pages on their website linking to our site where they are listed = a highly relevant link). I was less concerned about the authority of the law firm's sites, though these will range from sometimes low-ish to medium. I just assumed that Google would see the value in the lawyer wanting to link to our site where they are listed. However, our SEO has said that these days Google doesn't give much/any value to these types of links from individual staff pages. His advice was to try and get the badge added to one of their service pages (or their About page) which will be unlikely as the badge is person-specific. I thought I'd ask if this was everyone else's experience regarding Google not valuing links from individual staff pages? Thanks for you help 🙂

Are followed links from these high authority domains any good?
Hi Mozzers, I have a link building question, in 2 parts. I am in the UK. We have a large local directory network over here which involves some high authority national news domains. Basically, you get a citation for free but if you go "featured" as well as the benefit of being returned top for keyword searches in the directories, buried under a tab on your page are deep links to your website, and they are followed. What are the risks/benefits of this? Are followed links from other high authority domains like Visual.ly and Behance worth it? They are easy to get and I've always believed an easy link usually isn't a good link. Thanks in advance!

Techniques for Finding Blogs that Accept Guest Blog Posts
I'm running into an issue where we are having difficulty finding blogs that accept guest blog posts after doing this on 300 or so blogs. We usually Google "guest post" related keywords with "blog" or take blogs off of lists of sites that accept guest blog posts. What techniques do you recommend? Do any of you use myblogguest.com with any success?

Guest Blogging - Build a relationship with a few blogs and post only there or post a few on as many good blogs as possible?
I'm curious which strategy is better in the short term and in the long-term? Part of my link building strategy involves contacting bloggers and posting some guest blogs on their sites. Now there are advantages with posting on a few blogs and creating a link between you and the blog readers and the blog owner. It also saves time trying to contact blog owners etc. However would my time be better spent contacting hundreds of blogs and seeing where I can guest blog and then post on as many as possible; in order to have a diverse number of links going back to my website? What do you think is the best option and why?
