Tweet favourites or re-tweets, how does it affect ?
-
We have a small blog, which posts around 5-6 posts everyday based on Web Development and we get a lot of social traffic, as many of our followers which costs of some big websites and tech blogs too re-tweets and favourites or tweets.
Almost 10-15 favourites happen everyday for our posts.
Does this help us on this new age of Google social search engine ranking ?

I think it's important to note that we currently have no strong evidence that tweets (favorites or RTs) directly impact rankings. Google cut off the Twitter "firehose" data and claims they don't factor in social as a direct ranking factor (even Google+). I think "direct" is an important word there, and that makes sense - social is relatively easy to manipulate, at least in terms of raw signals. They're still trying to figure out the right mix.
That caveat aside:
(1) I agree with Ratan that RT's are generally more advantageous indirectly. They expose more people to your tweet, and those people will click through, drive up engagement, and potentially link to you. Eventually, this can have an indirect but very real impact on SEO. It's unlikely that favoriting has much impact even indirectly, IMO.
(2) Social signals, like RTs, can definitely be used by Google for indexing new content. Content posted on G+, for example, is indexed incredibly fast from decent accounts (not just big names, but any account that's clearly real). This isn't "ranking" per se, but you can't win if you don't play, so it matters.
(3) I strongly suspect social will be a corroborating layer, if it isn't already. In other words, if you have a piece of content with 500 +1s but no tweets, not Likes, and no links, that's going to look like spam to Google. If that same piece shows signals across very dimensions, then those 500 +1s may have an impact. RTs may eventually be part of that equation (personally, I don't think they are right now).

Hi Keri,
You, yourself, have answered the question for me. Thanks for the same. You agree that a 'retweet' creates far more visibility to the user. Yes, it does. Practically, retweet means you are sending someone else’s tweet to all of your followers. While 'favorite' is like saving a tweet for reading/referring later. So quite obviously, retweets create more emphatic social signals in comparison with a favorite.
This is where the answer lies. The better the social signal is, the more the benefit it will bring to SEO (at least as per current ranking factors).
You asked for reference, you can refer to a very good article by Jayson at Moz itself http://moz.com/blog/your-guide-to-social-signals-for-seo
"retweets serve as a new form of link building. Get your page mentioned in tweets by authoritative people, and that can help your ranking in regular search results, to a degree..."
Thanks

Hi Ratan,
I can certainly see where visibility to the user is different for a favorite versus a retweet. Can you provide some more information about how you've found a difference in SEO between the two?
-
Hi Monali,
'Re-tweets' are more powerful than 'favorites' when you talk about it in terms of SEO. The reason is that when some favorites your tweet, only you are notified for the same. Such tweets do not reach followers of the person who did the 'favorite'.
On the other hand, when somebody retweets your tweet, it reaches out to all the followers of the person who did the 'retweet'. In short, it creates more powerful impact in terms of creating social signals that a search engine can sense.
About 'favorites', there are many spam activities on twitter these days where spammy users do the 'favorite' just to send you the notifications. Why do they do it? Because, you come back to their profile and follow them. Such users do not generally return a follow. It's a trick by spammers.
On a tweeter account I manage, I have noticed many similar activities. But when I go to check whether they really did the 'favorite', in most of the cases I find nothing. They actually do the favorites and undo it. The game is just to attract new followers.
So the crux is, focus more on posting useful tweets so that you can attract more and more retweets.
Thanks

Is it possible for a twitter user to automate a response to a tweet that I marked as a favorite?
If favorited a tweet of someone I don't know very well and received a response within a few minutes of the tweet asking "where have you been and what are you up to". Seems general enough to be automated and not specific enough for me to think it was personally sent by the user. Thank you.

How to regain Facebook Page Authority - For page badly affected with spam users
Case- company Facebook page has more than 10K users and almost 50% are spam. When this happens, edge rank of the page is badly affected (because spam users are not interested in your shared content so they hide you/remove you from feed and of course never engage). Not to mention Facebook released an update end of 2014 where page will have less visibility anyway compared to user updates. Overall the Page updates get very less exposure / impressions Now only solution is to remove this huge no of spam users one by one or by an API. Question - Does removing the spam users regain the authority of the page ? Does that solve the overall issue ? What are the other solution to fix the situation ? Thanks.

How can I find the most liked, tweeted, and +1'd URLs on a domain?
As part of a content audit, I'd like to identify the most popular content on a domain. I've tried Google Spreadsheets + API's from the services, but the call limits have stopped me as I can only check 50 URLs at a time. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? I can get the list of all pages on the site with Screaming Frog, but then how do I find metrics on those URLs? Any tips or tools would be appreciated!

Does buying thousands of Facebook Fans/Likes affect SEO?
To begin with, please pardon me if this question is ignorant. I'm completely new to this whole social media thing, and somewhat feel it is overhyped. I find it really difficult to believe that social media will actually help the majority of small business owners out there like me, and that most of them are probably being misled about the powers of social media to increase sales. Because it's mentioned so frequently, I've decided to delve into it a bit more to see how this could possibly help me business. Over the past few weeks, I've become familiar with a company that sells Facebook Likes, Twitter followers, as well as YouTube and SoundCloud plays. Since my official Twitter and FaceBook accounts really didn't have that many followers, I decided to buy a few thousand followers for each account. Initially, I bought them because I wondered what would happen if a customer that visited my online store happened to go to those Twitter and Facebook pages. If I personally see a Facebook page with few followers, I probably wouldn't give them my business. I would want to go with a company that seems to generate a bunch of traffic to their pages. Originally, I only had about 200 Facebook followers (now called Likes, it seems) and maybe 25 Twitter followers. I now have over 12,000 Twitter followers and 2,000 Facebook Likes. I may end up buying more since the service was pretty quick and affordable. I'd like to know if Google factors Likes and followers into it's formula for creating SERPS. Will my website rank higher if I have 10,000 likes, rather than only 200? If so, would it be a notable increase? FWIW, I found that more people organically started following my Facebook and Twitter accounts once I had more followers. I didn't change anything about how I maintained the page; I just had more people following them. One other thing of note: these companies are almost certainly using fake/hacked accounts to like various pages around Facebook/Twitter. You can tell because my Facebook page says some city in Croatia has the most amount of 'likes' of my page. Do you think this might come into play at all? Thanks for any and all help!

What to tweet and blog about?
A little background: The site I'm working on, www.ixl.com, is a math practice site for pre-K through 8th grade. Our content consists of math skills where we randomly generate math problems, grouped by grades and topics. We have around 300 skills per grade. The question: We don't currently have a twitter feed, Facebook page, or a blog. I'm working on setting these up, or at least a twitter feed and the Facebook page first. I'm wondering, what kinds of things will we tweet about once I get a twitter feed set up? What kinds of things should we be tweeting about? Things like online education articles? And articles about teaching math? Do you guys think that would be compelling enough to get followers and make this productive for us? Another question, how important do you think a blog is, compared to a twitter feed and Facebook page? I was thinking it would be fun to set up a blog, and post math questions from the site 2x or 3x a week, as well as other content that could overlap with the twitter feed.

What is more important, tweets/shares or traditional link building?
SMM has a presence that is just growing and growing. I'm hearing all these back and forth talks about how tweets/shares are influencing rankings more than traditional link building would. If so, would this be a short term ranking improvement, long term? What percentage would you say SMM (ranking factor) has when ranking a website in the SERPS.

So if I wanted to monitor tweets about Lady Gaga and limit it to Austin, TX how would I filter this?
And lets say I wanted to do this over an extended period of time. And for bonus credits... is there any program that would notify me of each new tweet as it happens.

How much attention do you pay to hashtags in your tweets?
I haven't really paid much attention to adding hashtags to my tweets, but I'm thinking I should. For my real estate site I just started following the mayor of our city. I noticed that he finishes each of his tweets with #ourcityname. I clicked on the hashtag because I wanted to find more people who tweet about our city. Then, I suddenly realized that if I used that hashtag when I tweet then other people would find me and follow me. Any thoughts?
