How I should fix a lot of 404 issues?
-
Hi guys,
Recently I migrated a site from Drupal to Wordpress. I didn't contemplated the URL's will be different on Wordpress. Actually I have moren than 500 (the site has around 5000 pages) page not found issues on WMT and Moz. It because articles that has accents (spanish site) and symbols had wrong URLs in Drupal and right now in Wordpress that pages are not working.
i.e: http://www.lapelotona.com/noticias/-tata-y-messi%2C-el-primer-saludo-de-los-rosarinos-/So I want to know if I should fix the URLs and make the 301 redirect to each of them or only fix the issues and thats it.
Thanks in advance if someone can help me.
Sorry if I have a mistake with my english, I still learning. -
Hi Peter,
Thank you so much!!. It make sense to me.
Best Regards.

Hi Alejandro
Sorry, I recommend you should redirect (301) the old URLs to the new URLs. You don't need to fix the old URLs, by that I mean you don't need to change them, just put them into the 301 redirect as they were. They will then redirect to the new URLs.
I hope that makes sense now.

Thank you Peter about your answer. I didn't get something… Should I only fix the URLs? or Should I fix and redirect (301) the old URLs to the new URLs ?
Thanks a lot!

Hi Alejandro
I recommend you fix all of them. The reason for doing that is because you can then ensure that you pass on a good portion of any SEO authority/value the old page had on the old site to the page on the new site.
I hope the above helps and makes sense.
Peter

Discovered - currently not indexed issues
Hi there We're having an issue with our site recently where our new blog posts are not indexing properly from Google.
Technical SEO | | Syte
Inspecting it with Google Search Console gives up the errors "Discovered - currently not indexed" and "Excluded". I.e. it seems like Google sees our sitemap but chooses not to crawl and index for some reason. Does anybody have any ideas why this might be, and what we could do to fix it?

Google Cache issue
Hi, We’ve got a really specific issue – we have an SEO team in-house, and have had numerous agencies look at this – but no one can get to the bottom of this. We’re a UK travel company with a number of great positions on the search engines – our brand is www.jet2holidays.com. If you try ‘Majorca holidays’, ‘tenerife holidays’, ‘gran canaria holidays’ etc you’ll see us in the top few positions on Google when searching from the UK. However, none of our destination pages (and it’s only the destination pages), show a ‘cached’ option next to them. Example: https://www.google.com/search?q=majorca+holidays&oq=majorca+holidays&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l3.2151j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 This isn’t affecting our rankings, but we’re fairly certain it is affecting our ability to be included in the Featured Snippets. Checked and there aren’t any noarchive tags on the pages, example: https://www.jet2holidays.com/destinations/balearics/majorca Anyone have any ideas?

Implications of Disallowing A LOT of Pages
Hey everyone, I just started working on a website and there are A LOT of pages that should not be crawled - probably in the thousands. Are there any SEO risks of disallowing them all at once, or should I go through systematically and take a few dozen down at a time?

Duplicate Page Content Issue
Hello, I recently solved www / no www duplicate issue for my website, but now I am in trouble with duplicate content again. This time something that I cannot understand happens: In Crawl Issues Report, I received Duplicate Page Content for http://yourappliancerepairla.com (DA 19) http://yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html (DA 1) Could you please help me figure out what is happenning here? By default, index.html is being loaded, but this is the only index.html I have in the folder. And it looks like the crawler sees two different pages with different DA... What should I do to handle this issue?

How do I fix issue regarding near duplicate pages on website associated to city OR local pages?
I am working on one e-commerce website where we have added 300+ pages to target different local cities in USA. We have added quite different paragraphs on 100+ pages to remove internal duplicate issue and save our website from Panda penalty. You can visit following page to know more about it. And, We have added unique paragraphs on few pages. But, I have big concerns with other elements which are available on page like Banner Gallery, Front Banner, Tool and few other attributes which are commonly available on each pages exclude 4 to 5 sentence paragraph. I have compiled one XML sitemap with all local pages and submitted to Google webmaster tools since 1st June 2013. But, I can see only 1 indexed page by Google on Google webmaster tools. http://www.bannerbuzz.com/local http://www.bannerbuzz.com/local/US/Alabama/Vinyl-Banners http://www.bannerbuzz.com/local/MO/Kansas-City/Vinyl-Banners and so on... Can anyone suggest me best solution for it?

RSS Hacking Issue
Hi Checked our original rss feed - added it to Google reader and all the links go to the correct pages, but I have also set up the RSS feed in Feedburner. However, when I click on the links in Feedburner (which should go to my own website's pages) , they are all going to spam sites, even though the title of the link and excerpt are correct. This isn't a Wordpress blog rss feed either, and we are on a very secure server. Any ideas whatsoever? There is no info online anywhere and our developers haven't seen this before. Thanks

404 - page authority?
If in open site explorer my 404 pages have a higer page authority - what benefit would i see in rankings if I 301 redirected those pages to the right page. For example www.site.com/widget is a 404 but has authority according to open site explorer - but the page i see in the serps is www.site.com/widget/ with the / at the end. so what benefit would i see in rankings if I 301 redirected those pages to the right page?
