A Not Linked Page Question
-
Hello,
I have a page for opening an account in my website, this page is not accessible from my website menu, the only way to reach this page if you have the URL, I send the URL for specific users I want them to open an account in my system.
I have two questions regarding this:
- does this harm or cause damages to my website SEO ?
- blocking this page in Robots.txt will cause any issue/will help ?
waiting for your answer.
Thanks in advance,
Joni. -
The two previous answers on this question have it right, I believe.
There's no harm in leaving the page available for Google to crawl and decide whether it wants to index/rank it or not. If it's something that has been outranking another page of yours unintentionally you can noindex it, nofollow links to it, request its removal from the index and throw the relative URL into your robots.txt. Pretty extreme if you ask me but if it's somehow ranking above a desired page that would be my move.
But to answer your question: no a single page in the index that isn't particularly useful isn't a problem. Sites have privacy policies, about pages, and other non-essential resources all the time and Google knows this. No big deal. If you had hundreds of useless pages on your site that you didn't want indexed I'd recommend noindexing the lot of them. But sounds like we're talking about a single page.
It won't ultimately hurt or help you to do any of the above unless, as I said the page is causing you issues in other ways (though it probably isnt).
Hope that helps.

You can request removal via WMT if the URL is no index.
And as above no harm having island pages... in fact it is best practice for PPC so you get message match from ads to landing pages.

there is no "good" reason why you should not keep that url private - it won`t do your site any harm according to SEO aspects...
I would recommend you to set that url to "noindex" and "nofollow" BUT this might not work if Google already crawled and indexed your site / this specific URL.... as long as you don
t overdo "noindex" & "nofollow" this won
t get you into serious trouble...

Is it important to keep your website home index page simple to rank better?
My website http://www.endeavourcottage.co.uk/ markets holiday cottages and it's grown from my own singular cottage into a small letting agency and I used to rank at best number 3 for the short tailed keywords like Whitby holiday cottages with its drop-down to position 10 on Google.co.uk. So this week I was looking for a UK business to help me improve my rankings and the first thing they said was my home page is detrimental with the listing too many conflicting info with it advertising all 12 properties on it. They suggested a door entry page into the site keeping it simple but when I run it through the analysing tool here on Moz for "Whitby holiday cottages" as an example it came out looking okay. I do the usual things of title tags and meta descriptions for my keywords etc any suggestions or advice would be very welcome thank you Alan

How do we get search engine bots to the item detail pages?
The problem we have is that we have lots of inventory pages. These inventory pages have a bunch of links at the top linking to different styles of the item, up to 56 links in some cases. Then each item listed has a link to the item's detail page and a link to the item's shop owner's page. So if a page has 50 items shown, there are really 100 links just for the inventory. This is not taking into account the header links, footer links, sidebar links to other sections on the site. We have all these links to help consumers move through the site. The problem is that every item detail page on the site is not getting indexed and actually I think it's more like over 50% of the item detail pages are not indexed because the search engines are too busy following all these other links. Should we nofollow, index the links to the different styles of the item, the shop owner page? Or what should we do to get the search engine bots to index our item detail pages?

Schema.org - Right way to mark the pages
Dear all, Almost since we started designing our site, we are using schema microdata. It is not only because of the rich snippets, but because I want the search engines to better understand what we have. For example, the +1 buttom would not work properly without schema microdata, because it kind of ignores the OpenGraph parameters that specified image and description; and since we are a (very small) local bussiness directory (between other things), all our clients have a hand written schema complient description on their lisings, including address, opening ours, telephone number, description, etc. It is hand written by us because the tools avialable are simply not good enough to cover all different scenarios that a listing can present. I have not use, until today, a proper for the homepage, and it is probably the cause that our page lost the nice links below the site description in the google snippet. I did not place it on the body tag, but near the description, closing it inmediately after the description finishs. Now this is solved and we will wait to see if the links come back in the next weeks. Now to the question. Our site has three sections, with three different systems installed, two running wordpress and a third running another script. the main site is the local bussiness directory. The front page is mark as "schema.org/WepPage", and I do not know how to mark the other pages of the main site. I was thinking of marking the listings as "schema.org/ItemPage" since they are related to specific clients. Would you consired it to be right? Then, we have landing pages for the categories, should they be mark as WepPage, or as an Article, or something else? Many thanks in advance for your help, Best Regards, Daniel

Combining web pages and it's affects on SEO?
We are looking into amending a website we are working on to try and combine 2 or 3 current pages onto one page. This site is similar to an estate agents site and currently has images, map, floor plan sub pages etc. Can anyone tell me, if we were to combine these pages and include the above details on one page, how that would affect the current search engine rankings?
