Authorship - How bad is it to use a fictional character instead of the actual author ??
-
Hi
I know authorship is all about the author hence should be a real person (the author) but in the case of children's books etc etc is it really not ok to develop authorship around the character rather the actual author ?
For example kids searching google will recognise the character but not the author
Even if G doesnt like it how bad is it to ignore them and proceed with the character ?

Hi Dan
In principle, I don't think it's bad at all. In fact, I actually think it's a great idea. If kids were searching online and there favourite kids show came up as an author, it attracts their click to that link, which can be a great thing. Bit of a throwback, but if there was a clarissaexplainsitall.com and an authorship photo of Clarissa/Melissa John Hart appearing next to it - I think that's awesome for both branding and relevancy.
However, in reality this is just not practical - because of Google's vehement opposition to such a practice. Google can and will (and has) removed authorship attribution in the past if it thinks the profile snippet is not a real picture or author and to go one step further Google can and will (and has) suspended Google+ profiles and accounts altogether, if they think it is an impersonation and/or not a real person.
It means that all the time, effort and resource you might spend investing in that author profile, following and (dare I say it) any kind of potential future AuthorRank could be lost in an instant, without any warning. To me, no matter how appealing it would be, that puts me off the idea of creating such a profile and authorship.
Perhaps that's the hypocrite in me, as you could say the exact same thing is true for SEO! Ha!
That's my £0.02 in any case, hope it's helpful.

Google ranking factors are increasingly more complex and less universal. Google is emphasizing different ranking factors for different scenarios. For example, are there any tools that provide correlative analysis of Google's rankings for a given keyword?

Removing old URLs that are being used for my on page optimization?
Is there a way to remove old URL's that are still being used for my keywords for my on page optimization? They are giving me grades of F since they no longer exist and if I change the URL to the current one, the grade becomes an A, but they are still showing after the new crawl.

Can Page Authority of a site be higher than its Domain Authority?
I own a website called Takeyourtips.com. While doing a search no Google, I found that the page authority of the home page (31) is higher than the domain authority (23). I was wondering if it's really possible because my understanding was page authority of a page is determined by its domain authority. Therefore, it the domain authority of a website is 23, none of its page could have a higher page authority. Plus, upon consulting an SEO expert, I was told that neither Domain Authority or Page Authority of a page carries any importance as far as higher ranking of a website is concerned. Is this true? Thanks in advance for the answers. Cheers, Sushant large

Are blank Product Review pages bad for SEO?
Hi there, I'm running a new e-commerce site (BoatOutfitters.com) and have a question about our product review pages. On our current campaign, we have a lot of duplicate page content errors. When we export the data, it's almost all blank product review pages (since we are new, we don't have that many product reviews yet). Our product reviews aren't run through javascript, so we originally did not add them to a robots.txt file - however, I'm now wondering if it's worse to have all of these duplicate blank pages, or is it not affecting our SEO at all? Should we just wait until these products have reviews which will benefit our SEO and then they won't be considered "duplicate pages" - right? Sorry if this has been answered before - new here at SEO Moz and just looking for some help. Thanks!

Why is our site dropping in Domain Authority
Hi all, I have a question. I have been working SEO on our site www.betxpert.com for the last 4-6 weeks and I have been looking forward to seeing the new DA and PA numbers. However today, our DA is now 30...where it was 31 or 33 a couple of days ago. How come the decrease? I have only improved the site i should say... Hope someone can shed a little light on the issue... -Rasmus
