No index, or no index no follow?
-
Wondering if I could garner some views on this issue please.
I'm about to add an affiliate store to a website I own, the site has a couple of pages of unique content (blogs, articles, advice etc on home improvement - all written by my team). Obviously, the affiliate store will not be unique content, it will be made using the datafeeds from cj.com et al, and so I don't want to get any duplicate content type penalties from Google for this store.
Should I add a no index to the pages and allow the bots to still crawl them, or should I add no index and no follow? Ideally I would like to get the affiliate store category pages indexed as they will be a mixture of lots of different merchants and be fairly unique.
Can Google still mark the site down for duplicate content if it can crawl it, even if it is noindex?
Thanks,
Carl

Carl, I have a few ideas and suggestions. I will respond to your original mentions:
"Obviously, the affiliate store will not be unique content, it will be made using the datafeeds from cj.com et al, and so I don't want to get any duplicate content type penalties from Google for this store."
I find this interesting that you automatically assume that you have to use the original datafeeds from CJ. I would encourage you to contact Commission Junction directly on this matter. Many services allow you to provide an alternative product description, etc.The faq section of feedwizards has an example which you can read about here: https://dashboard.feedwizards.com/faq/9 (look for: How do I avoid duplicate content on shopping engines & affiliates using my feeds)
Matt Cutts as also spoken on this topic as well in the video I included. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z07IfCtYbLw
Hope this helps

Hi Carl,
Don't put a nofollow tag on the pages since this will cause a loss of pagerank. The pagerank will flow into the pages and won't flow out to your "doindex" pages when a nofollow tag is used.I do recommend to use a noindex to avoid duplicate content. However you won't get a penalty when you index the pages (if not to spammy). Google might ignore your "duplicate content" pages but you also could gain some traffic.

Disappearing and reappearing in google index
Hello. I made a lot of car accident lawyer city pages. They probably weren't as unique as they should have been. Suddenly, they all disappeared from the rankings and I freaked out. Then, two days later, they all returned. Is this a bad sign? Should I be worried? Why would they drop out of the rankings and come back in? Let me know, thanks.

Can we use internal no-follow links without negatively affecting rankings
we are creating a site structure for a travel website. the site homepage has a top navigation bar with 8 top level links and a total link count of 33 links in this (within menus). There are also 10 footer and ad-hoc links As this top navigation bar is a site-wide navigation, when entering s specific "travel destination" page, the "travel destination" page has its own contextual links and reference links, making the total inks on the destination page approx 107. do you think its ok to make all links in the top navigation bar no follow on all pages except the homepage? how would you approach this to create less links to maintain effective link-juice flow to required pages

Googlebot indexing URL's with ? queries in them. Is this Panda duplicate content?
I feel like I'm being damaged by Panda because of duplicate content as I have seen the Googlebot on my site indexing hundreds of URL's with ?fsdgsgs strings after the .html. They were beign generated by an add-on filtering module on my store, which I have since turned off. Googlebot is still indexing them hours later. At a loss what to do. Since Panda, I have lost a couple of dozen #1 rankings that I've held for months on end and had one drop over 100 positions.

Does the follow link from the moz Profile really count after first with nofollow?
Hey all, I discovered that the link from the public profile might not count. To my knowledge Google "counts" the first link to another page on any given page. The public profile has a nofollow link before your follow link:

Why Can't I Get Indexed?
I cannot seem to get my website indexed by Google! I submitted the sitemap using Google WMT about a month ago but only one page is being indexed. There are very few backlinks to the site, so I don't believe there are any penalties due to over-optimization that would prevent indexing. Also, my robots.txt file is properly configured and is not preventing any pages from being crawled. I've tried using the "Fetch as Google" settings in WMT with no luck. Any ideas?

Disallow indexing of ALL subdomains
I'm using www.domain.com as my development hosting. Each website that i'm developing get's a temporary URL like this: project1.domain.com
On-Page Optimization | | conversal
project2.domain.com
project3.domain.com
... Now i'd like to set that ALL these subdomains can not be indexed in Google. Now I manually have to do this for each subdomain's site, and when I go online I have to change the robots.txt again. So I would like to make things a bit easier for me. Is this possible?0 -
Is that a problem for indexing?
Hi all, I have an issue driving me crazy thant I think it could be impacting in the SERPs. My site has a spanish version "www.tarifakitesurfcamp" and an english version "www.tarifakitesurfcamp.com/en". These two "pages" in the CMS ("inicio" and "home") have the same title and the same description tag (in spanish) as the plugin ALL in one SEO only allows me to write one unique title and description for the home page via GENERAL OPTIONS (there's an option for "home title" and for "home description").. If a try to assign a title and a description individually for each page it doesn't work (I can't see the titles and description in the source code" of those pages. On the other hand, there's another page that is http://www.tarifakitesurfcamp.com/?attachment_id= which I can't locate in the CMS within pages section. This page has the same tittle and description as well. Could anyone give me a solution? Thanks.

Hi . I have a question regarding a surge in 302 temporary direct errors following reactivation of my site reviews.
Hi. i submitted the following question to the support team at volusion regarding a large number of 302 temporary redirects on the SEOMOZ crawl of following the reactivation of product reviews on my website. Here is the question and their response. Any opinions. Thanks TRANSCRIPT: Hi Howard, Looking at the link you have referenced, this page is unable to be accessed unless you are logged into your site, so SEO isn't applicable for the page. We would not be able to change the 302 redirect for this page. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions. Thanks,

Here for you 24x7x365 Volusion Support Check out our online support: http://support.volusion.com | 4 days ago (102hrs ago) [8/19/2012 10:06:00 AM] by Customer | | Hi . I had a report of 302 temporary redirects when SEO moz did a simulated site crawl. This is an example of the address of one of the many 302 temporary redirect errors which I think consume link juice or have some type of negative effect on SEO. http://www.mrgrabbar.com/reviewhelpful.asp?ProductCode=GT100&ID=562&yes=yes Since it is a live link I cannot seem to redirect it with a 301 redirect in the redirect manager. Is there anything I can do to handle these temporary redirects. They only are appearing now since I reactivated my reviews and I am concerned about the SEO effect that this may soon have.0
