New site or subdomain

what are pros and cons of launching a new product site as opposed to placing it under a subdomain of the company site?
will the new site be placed in the google sandbox?
the main goal is to provide credibility for the product, and by placing it under the company site that has been live for over 10 years. It is not a consumer product - more dealers. So people would be pushed to the site or find it through the brochure.

I'm not sure there's a one-size-fits-all answer. From an SEO point of view, if the subdomain has a similar design and structure to the main domain, then the new product 'may' benefit from the domain authority of the root domain.
On a new domain, the site starts from scratch, although I wouldn't worry too much about a sandbox effect.

I think it comes down to the branding requirements of the new product. Is this a major product launch, or just another product amongst an existing product line the company has had for ages?
The advantages of having the new product under the current domain (as a subdomain, or a subdirectory as Kurt pointed out above) would be that you could piggy back off the existing brand and online presence, and it would be easy for new customers to find the product, even if they weren't looking for it.
If the product is new, your company is investing a lot in it, and it deserves it's own branded presence, than a new domain might be the way to go. Search Engines and Marketers have been moving towards "branding" for a while now, and if this product warrants it's own name, personality, or community - this would probably be the way to go.

By making the product part of the parent site, I'd say you are conveying the quality and reputation of the main brand. I know people say that Google treats subdomains as seperate sites, but personally, I think they connect it more than a completely different site. But my question would be why not make it a subdirectory of the main site instead of a subdomain? Then it's definitely part of the main site for both the search engines and users.
As for the sandbox, you can rank even with a new site. The thing is that new sites usually don't have any links, shares or reputation whatsoever, so they don't rank well for much, if anything. On the other hand, if you put the new product in a subdirectory, it's part of the main site and you definitely won't have any risk of the sandbox.
Is there a reason you want to separate out the product from the company?

Which is the best way to rank a site?

Bounce rate seems to decrease as site climbs the SERP but SERP ranking always drops down after a few days - WHY ?
Like quite a few sites recently we've seen some large fluctuations for our domain the SERPs over the past 6 or so weeks. One thing ive noticed, is that when the site seems to rank higher in the SERPs we get a lower bounce rate. If the sites average across all of its main keywords in #5 the bounce rate is c. 40% (this site is a creative portfolio site, so i guess the niche has a slightly higher bounce rate than normal as you will get some people who click through an notice straight away that the style of the portfolio isnt what they where looking for) But when the sites ranking averages #2-3 the bounce rate tends to be about 25%. (The thing is that we tend to always drop back down after a fews days or so) Has any one else noticed this ?

Site titles / descriptions change - Google Algo Change ?
Hello, During the weekend 4 of our sites automatically changed their search titles and descriptions at the same time.

How vital is it for a site to have a mobile site for mobile SEO?
With the exponential growth in mobile device sales and usage and an expected 980% growth in advertising next year for/on mobile devices, we at http://www.mobilewebsitegurus.com decided that it was time to help companies create great looking mobile websites that are user friendly and SEO friendly at affordable rates with tons of features built in from the start. However, when selling our design, how important is it to have a GOOD mobile site compared to a big one to rank on mobile devices? We head that Google was thinking of only showing mobile sites on mobile devices. NOT TRUE. Then we read/heard that the rankings were MUCH BETTER if you had a mobile site, but after a lot of research we found that too NOT to be true. On most sites there were NO difference. New linkbuilding: If networks are useless, and I need high volume through a 1-man team, what's the best option?
I work for an online retailer, and we have thousands of product pages and our vertical for content is brutal -- half of them are owned by our competitors. Are there any new linkbuilding strategies that can be done through a 1-man team? I'm not talking about bots or traditional link networks. Our current strat revolves around the following: 1. Link prospecting through buzzstream tools and singular contacts 2. Finding bloggers/vloggers, sending product and having them send backlinks to our homepage level with their reviews (slow turnaround, low juice). 3. Syndicating our videos through multiple avenues. 4. What do i need to do to drive more traffic to my site
Hi i built a site around ten months ago but at the moment i am only receiving around 3 visitors a a day. it is a travel site that i write new content for but because i am still learning seo i am not sure what i have been doing wrong. I am not sure of the basics from getting people to the site or the correct way of generating free links or if i should be submitting my site to all these free site submitters which includes to lycos and other free services that you can find on google.
