Ecommerce Product Reviews - Show All, Most Recent, Sampling?
-
Just curious what you guys are doing in the way of displaying product reviews on ecommerce sites. I couldn't find much on best practices here so I'm turning to the Moz community.
We're moving our main site to Magento and plan to launch it in a few months. Some of our products have 1,000+ reviews and we're wondering what the best way to show them is.
I'm thinking just put them all on there (provided it doesn't slow down the page) to increase unique content per page, more keywords, etc. We've also thought of showing just the 50-100 most recent reviews or filtering the reviews and showing a sampling we choose.
Thoughts?

I would organize reviews by most recent as it would show visitors what the latest thoughts are on the product and they can better learn what they are looking for, especially if the products have changed in anyway such as new formula, packaging, etc. A sampling would be fine for a testimonials-like page but might obvious to customers that it's not entirely truthful if they are all only good-great reviews on the product pages.

I like the way Amazon puts a few of the most helpful reviews as a lot information in a reviews is pointless with lots of them just saying great or rubbish. It also puts the latest in a side bar so you still get those. Amazon also gives a balance of critical and favourable.
I think a 1000 on a page would be too much and I can't see how that wouldn't slow the page. I'm also not sure how Google deals with high words counts. I know that keyword density as a key factor is long gone but it is still a factor so it you swamp the page with unhelpful reviews it might negatively impact the page.

Prices Showing for products in SERPs - organic CTR reducing
Hi, I've been looking at a clients site and Google is pulling the prices of the products (for some not all) and the pages that rank have started to have a lower organic CTR. Does anyone know how I can control what prices show in the SERPs? There is no Schema on the site to display this and the price is not in the meta title or description - it's just appearing on some pages - it's not uniform across the site? Any ideas? Cheers B

Writing unique meta titles for canonicalised products or not?
Hi all, I have a question (duh): I have like 10 colours of the same product. I will make one colour the canonical, do I still need to write unique meta titles for the others? I am almost certain it doesn't add value at all, but wanted to double check since I couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks a lot in advance and have a great day!

Ecommerce URLs with numbers
Hi everybody! I have to optimize an ecommerce where somebody has previously done the SEO optimization, although the URLs have numbers before the product's name They have told me that these numbers are useful to find the products, so I think it shouldn't be really bad if I don't redirect them to "clear" ones. For example: /colesterol-sobrepeso/2217-hc-grass-capsulas-duras-15-capsulas.html > /colesterol-sobrepeso/hc-grass-capsulas-duras-15-capsulas.html Am I right? After all, they contain the keywords and the subfolders are also ok. Or it would be better if I redirect the whole site? Thanks!

Magento - How to avoid duplicate content on products that span different sites.
We have 4 Magento store fronts that operate out of the same backend. Is there any way to safely have products that span multiple stores without getting a duplicate content penalty? thanks!

Should product variations be visible individually?
I can't find any information on this anywhere. We have hundreds of configurable products, all with coloured variations. For example, one of our popular selling chairs comes in 8 different colours. Now, should all these coloured variations be visible individually (and have their own url) or only visible when selected from the dropdown? The problem is, when they have their own url it's going to cause duplicate content issues. It's merely impossible to write a different brief for the same product in 8 different colours. The second issue is, if they are visible individually, one colour is going to be shown TWICE to users, one being the simple product and one being the main configurable. I hope you kind people can help!

Moving from Local to National Audience - Ecommerce Site
I have an e-commerce site that was optimized for local results. We’ve been receiving traffic from all over the nation so recently we've decided to optimize the site for a more national audience by removing the local business indicators. I have below a list of things that I’ve done, I’m contemplating doing and other various questions. One note I want to make is that we offer installation services – which we would still like to rank locally for. I have done the following: Remove [city] from all of the title tags (except for the installation pages) Removed NAP (name, address, ph#) from site wide footer – I’m not sure if I should have done this. Inserted NAP at the bottom of the body content of the installation pages Questions Right now my installation pages are located in a sub-folder (ex: www.mydomain.com/installation-services). Should I create a sub-domain for installations (ex: city.mydomain.com/installation-services)? My thoughts are that it would make that sub-domain all about our installation services while keeping our root domain focused on our products and not dilute it with installations. However, this sub-domain will have less juicy juice. What should I do with our G+ business page? In the back end of the business G+, there are boxes I can check for “my business has service areas where I visit my customers at their location” and “I serve customers at my business address.” If checked, will these make my site less likely to rank Nationally? We DO have a storefront and we DO visit people to do installations, so I would like these to be checked but not if it hurts my national rankings. There are local “7 pack” results for my main keywords and their installations. So, I would want my root domain to show up locally for “widgets in [city]” and my sub-domain to show up for “widget installation in [city]". Is it against Google’s TOS to create another G+ business page for the sub-domain? Is this even possible? Do I even need to do this or will Google know that I have a sub-domain all about installation and have my site show up in the local results? Is there anything in GWT that I need to make sure to have done? I put the geographic target to United States. Is there anything else? Of course, there is always the option of creating a new domain and optimize it for the installations. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Page Analysis on our asp.net site is showing the following for HTML Text - //
paintball-online.com This is consistent on every page, despite these pages having text. I assume the SEOMoz tool is working just fine and we have a coding issue that may be hindering our SEO efforts. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks

Too many on page links on ecommerce site
I have an online store with 10 catagories, many of those have subcategories. I have a tree style navigation menu on the page. This helps people quickly find what they need. However, I end up with about 125 links on the page that way. Does google really penalize me for this? Is there anyway around this? Advice much appreciated!
