Giveaways for increasing inbound traffic, brand relevance and organic results
-
I wanted to know if giveaways are considered viable way to increase inbound traffic and organic results.
I am running giveaways with increased traffic but no effect on organic rewsults.
does anyone have something to share on this.

Hi Guy, I remember seeing you at SEOChat a while back.
If you have figured out how to fulfill the giveaway with no problem then it sounds like a great thing.
I don't see anything about giveaways that suggest that they are anything less than white hat.
Almost everybody loves freebies.. So, I would go for it.

hello Egol
first amazing to e-meet you again, I see you all over for years.
I am running giveaways for few ecommerce site, I have no limit to the amount of giveaways I can run, and it is very easy to fulfill.
I see increased inbound traffic and many social signs are generated, I wonder if it is considered a good an "white" practice. It seems to generate much interest.

Depends what your giveaway is.
If you are giving away free downloadable files or free access to a tool or anything that does not cost you continued time and expense then it might work. For example the free tool access or free file downloads might result in people typing your domain into google as a querry, it might generate links and likes for your site... and if these digital giveaways are not causing people to call you on the phone for questions and assistance then I would keep offering them. I have some giveaways of this type on my sites and I think that they might be helpful in the SERPs because people are asking for my site in google search by name and people link to the giveaway stuff. I also earn ad and affiliate income from the giveaway pages.
But... if you are giving away physical product like baseball caps, t-shirts, etc that have to be mailed that is very different. These are going to be a constant spend of money, a constant stream of emails and phone calls from people who are wah wah wah... I didn't get one, mine did't fit, can you mail one to my brother? his address is Crater 10 on Mars? Can you send one for all of the kids in my class... there are 425 of us?
These giveaways might bring people to your site but most of them don't give a damn about your site - they just want the giveaway.

Hi Guy
Giveaways are definitely a good thing to encourage inbound traffic and help to raise the profile of your brand, but that does not necessarily correlate to a higher rank in organic SERPs.
Pages in search results are delivered on the basis that the page is relevant to the search query, but where a page ranks in SERPs - if relevant to a query - is also dependent upon the competition for that query and a lot of other metrics.
I hope that helps,
Peter

Will Facebook traffic hurt our SEO? Should we put our blog on the core domain or sub domain?
We are concerned that social traffic could hurt our SEO. What do you think... Our average time on site from organic search traffic is 7 minutes. Facebook traffic has an average time on site of 1 minute. Both traffic sources are going to different pages. If we generate 3 times as much traffic from Facebook as we do from google this will pull down our overall average time on site and engagement levels big time. Should we put our blog on the core domain or a subdomain? Right now we are holding back on promoting on facebook because we are concerned it could hurt our SEO, what do you think? Should we try to get as much traffic as possible from Facebook even though the engagement is much lower? Should we put our blog which is generating the low engagement traffic from facebook on the core domain or a subdomain?

How can I most effectively use Twitter to increase traffic and promote sales for our fine art business?
My wife and I are struggling to promote her sales of Fine art wildlife art and nature paintings; both originals and fine art prints. We have had a website for over 10 years; with virtually no traffic, and only an occasional sale (averaging about one per year). How can we most effectively use the Twitter platform to generate leads and sales?

Traffic from YouTube
Hi I've suggested a client add annotated links to the end of their YT vids to help get traffic from YT My clients video guy has suggested setting up a hidden redirect page so we can tell how many people come to the website from youtube I take it this is not necessary since traffic from YT will be easily identified by Google analytics anyway ? Cheers Dan

Counting unique landing pages in Google Analytics: social vs organic channels
Remember the technique Rand posted for counting the unique indexed landing pages on a site? http://moz.com/blog/indexation-for-seo-real-numbers-in-5-easy-steps I'm using Google Analytics to compare this result for the "social" channel vs. the "organic search" channel. The idea is to see whether social or search delivers people to more unique landing pages. I would expect organic search to yield a significantly higher count, due to long tail searches for relatively obscure terms. We have an archive of over 500k pages that Google could be indexing, even if only a fraction of a percent of those might be getting social mentions. But that's not what the numbers show -- I'm seeing roughly 10% higher numbers for the Social channel than for Organic Search. Again, I'm counting unique landing pages here, not the total pageviews or visits. If anyone else here is monitoring these metrics, please chime in with your results. What's the baseline expectation for a large website with hundreds of thousands of pages of issue-centric user-generated content? Should search traffic provide 2x more landing page exposures than social? 5x? 10x? or 0.9x, as in my case? In short, I believe these numbers are pointing to an indexing/ranking problem following a recent site redesign.

Google+ pages in search results
I have a simple question - I've read a lot about how google+ pages are ranking well in google searches, and that it's a good idea to incorporate google+ into your strategy. So I was on a call this morning, talking to a client about this. The client brought up the fact that in all his google searches, he's NEVER seen a google plus page in the search results. I realized that I never have either. After some searches, I still don't see any google plus pages, at least not on page 1 or 2. Am I missing something? Needless to say, the client was not convinced about the value of having a G+ page, and I came away not sure what I was missing. So how do people measure the impact of using google+ on their main website? -Jim

I use facebook which i am not a fan of and i get a lot of traffic from it. Just wondering if there is a knack to getting traffic from twitter or are other people finding out the same as me that twitter does nothing to generate traffic or increase your profile

URL's for videos to increase page value and social sharing value
Hello Everyone, We recently developed videos for all of our products. Upon clicking on each video, we have the video popping up in a lightbox. The videos are hosted on Amazon s3. We would like to implement social sharing for each video and to do so, we are going to have the video load on each page upon being clicked using jquery. My question is how we should structure the urls so that the actual product page gets the share value. So for example, if the page is www.website.com/product1.aspx should we have the video be www.website.com/product1.aspx#video and ensure there is a canonical url on each product page so that the benefit is given to www.website.com/product1.aspx Or is there another way that anyone would recommend doing this? The videos are AMAZING and I'd like to ensure that as these videos are shared on social networks, that the value of the share is directed to the actual product page. Any ideas mozzers? Thanks!
