Help with ecommerce duplicate pages and SEO advice(magento base site)
-
Hi,
We have a magento build site (www.mokee.eu) and are selling our own branded goods. So far it is a very limited range of products. It's 1 baby crib in 5 variations.
We recently started getting more sales from the site, so I started to look a bit more into optimising our site.
I rewrote item name, created better descriptions, added meta titles and description etc. and subscribed to the MOZ analytics platform to understand a bit better ways to improve things up.
From what I saw we have a big issue of duplicated content because our product pages are the same and only the product colour changes, which is something google apparently doesn't like
However it is important for us that each colour get referenced by google so people who search for grey cot can find a picture of our grey cot etc... Also I was thinking to create only on multi variation page with all colour but when you have only 1 product to sell it might look a bit empty on the site.
1- Do you guys have some advise on how to go round this issue?
2- Do you have any other advise for my site in particular to optimise things and actually do you think i should be worried at all with such a small catalogue?
Thanks
Sam

@ ImWaqas @Chris Wilson,
Thanks for the tips. I'll clean the URL to keep what is essencial and tailor it to target audience language ( I guess google adword estimator tools are the right place to go)
For the Meta Title of out cot categorie page I have got
Buy Baby Cot Bed & Cribs | From £65 | MOKEE.EU
For the meta description of the cot category page ** I have got**
Buy an Ecologic Baby Cot |120 x 60 cm | ONLY £65 | FREE DELIVERY | 2 YEARS WARRANTY | 5 Colours (White, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Brown & Pink)>>DISCOVER>>
ANY GOOD??
Finally, where should the keyword stuffing happen then? Product description? meta description, meta title, etc.....
Is word frequency important as well? is number of words important?
Thanks
Sam

Like ImWaqas said, canonical tags should be put in, all pointing to the default or most popular color. As for the URLs, I would avoid keyword stuffing the url with synonyms, try something like this:
http://www.mokee.eu/cheap-baby-crib-scandinavian-minimalist.html
However, you should do some keyword research on your target market to determine which terms are popular for your target audience like baby vs. infant, crib vs. cot, cheap vs. low cost, etc.
Hope this helps,
Chris

First I will try to delete this part /index.php/ and My structure will be
http://www.mokee.eu/baby-infant-cheap-cot-bed-crib-cosleeper-scandinavian-minimalist-5-colours.html
Then I will Write Proper Meta title and description where I will add all different color variations in description to go with highly optimized Title.
For URL''s and Titles You need to target a bit broader and You can put all other keywords in Content of the pages. G reads your content and can easily rank with optimized written content.
hope it helps
thanks

@ ImWaqas,
Thanks a lot!
I'll have a look at canonical URL's and meta description for home page etc...
Fot he URL, I thought it was the place to put as many keywords as possible:-) How would you structure them to be optimal for instance this one:
Thanks

Hi Sam,
You need to add canonical tag to your Different color pages.
To help search engines to understand the duplicate content of your pages you can suggest the preferred version of the URL for each page, using the canonical URL tag, so you should install the Canonical URL’s for Magento module.
Read More https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139394?hl=en
Also, After Reviewing your Website, I saw that you do not have Optimized Meta titles Like Homepage And Also your inner pages url looks too long. I think you need better optimized urls too.
Thanks

Will Landing Page Design with Large Areas of White Background Enjoy a Higher Conversion Rate?
My designer has created a landing page with a dark background. Text is white and other colors. Does a dark background impact the conversion rate? Is it better to have a white background? I am concerned that a dark background may distract visitors. The landing page is: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/MidtownLawOfficeSublet3300SFBelowMarket We plan on using this landing page for LinkedIn advertising. Thanks!!

Adwords Advice
Hi. I have a few questions regarding Adwords set up. I typically follow a highly targeted model with Ad Groups consisting of a few ads and keywords. I have a client who offers multiple services across multiple towns/cities/counties but what I want to know is the best way to structure this at campaign level. Say they offer carpet cleaning, window cleaning and car cleaning. In cities London, Birmingham and Leeds. Now when setting the campaign up, would I be better served to set up a Campaign at: City Level. Eg London location settings, london keywords, london in Ad copy. Service Level. London, Leeds & Birmingham in location setting. Ad Groups for each city with Ads aimed at each city/keywords. Or City & Service level. Eg. London location settings. London Car Cleaning. The Ad Group, Ads, Keywords. What is the best structure to use? I see location as important but if I restrict settings to 1 city, am I doing myself out of some searches from regions on the border of London that might be interested in the service? I want Ads, Keywords to be highly targeted but the best way to play it. Thanks

Landing page on a separate domain?
I want to start a PPC campaign for an ecommerce site, but my ads are rejected due to my URL being offensive. The name works great from a branding perspective, but it has kept me from being listed in certain directories and advertisements. I thought about buying a separate domain to host the landing pages for the PPC campaign where the user would then be redirected to my product page for purchasing. Is this a good idea? Would you recommend another approach?

Have My SEO Cake & Eat It - Mix Viral Content & Business Content?
Hello, I optimize for a fashion, eCommerce site which has catalogue pages and product pages. http://www.zando.co.za/ We're currently working on a large "blog" which tons of great content designed to attract readers, links and tons of long tail traffic. We'll be doing how-to videos, celeb interviews, top-tens, etc. etc. We'll even have a UGC community section eventually. Really great. Now, I want to use the links generated by this section to rank for generics like this: For example: I want to rank for "Lingerie" and I have this page set up as the target: http://www.zando.co.za/women/clothing/lingerie/ I create some amazing content that generates lots of links containing the word "lingerie" . That awesome content lives in:(hypothetical URL:) http://www.zando.co.za/fashion/magazine/how-lingerie-has-changed-over-50-years/ I want to (and this is where you come in 😉 get people linking to my catalogue page (http://www.zando.co.za/women/clothing/lingerie/) where they can find a banner or something alluding to that piece of link bait (the /fashion/magazine/ url). Perhaps similar to the Wordpress style <read more="">page break on posts?</read> Reason is, I want my "Money-Page" to get the links with "Lingerie" in it. Problem is, it'll be another click to the thing they want to find. Also, say I decide a few months later that I want to do another piece, like "lingerie in films" and do the same. My 'banner' idea would get very crowded or, it would mean that I bump the 50-years piece, which then makes for bad UX for readers clicking through looking for the old piece. Or perhaps this can all be solved with good design? Here's a WBF talking about mixing content: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/mixing-viral-content-with-business-content-whiteboard-friday Does anyone have an example of someone doing this well? PS. Was also thinking that on my "archive'' url, in between the content, I'll query for the top products that, that piece speaks to and make it possible for people to add to cart as they're reading the link bait content that is relevant to the product. Cheers Paul.

Site Redesign - 2 Target Audiences?
Hey everyone, we are planning a redesign on our website (we have been planning it since Fall last year, but got very busy in the Winter), and some new content / design questions have arisen. Right now, we are a "digital media" agency, and we offer video, design, and marketing services. So we do web videos, motion graphics, websites, seo, really a little bit of everything except for 3d modeling. What we are really trying to sell is the combination of these services (we may create a web video and redesign a groups website, then manage their adwords and marketing campaigns) and become our audiences "Go To" digital media agency. We were toying with the idea of giving visitors the option of picking from one target audience or another when they arrived at the home page, and their experience would be customized to best fit the needs of that particular audience from there on out. For example, on our homepage we were thinking of display our overview and value proposition (which would be the same, no matter which target audience group you were a member of), then asking if the visitor was a "Small Business Owner looking for guidance" or a "Marketing Director looking for outsourcing partners", then based on what option they chose, they'd be directed to a corresponding landing page optimized for converting this audience. We were worrying this may drop our domain or page authority for our home page, since these aren't really keywords that we'd normally be trying to rank for. We understand that it is ideal to have 1 "niche" target audience, but we found that we heavily service both audiences. Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

How to you determine what a good CPA is on an ecommerce site?
Do you calculate shipping, warehouse cost, cost of goods into your CPA? Lets say my current CPA is $20 and average order is $100. Its 20% of each order cost goes to lets say ppc, seo, email or affiliate. Do I include cost of shipping lets say its $7.00 and cost of goods are $40.00 I end up with a profit of $33 and that doesn't include taxes, salary, warehouse cost ect. *this is all hypothetical, Im trying to see if my real CPA is inline or I should work on decreasing it. Any thoughts? Thanks
