Alternatives to Guest Blogging Please
-
Now that Matt Cutts seems to have sounded the death knoll for guest blogging for SEO, what are some good alternatives?
-
Hi Adam
I strongly advise you take a look at this article http://searchengineland.com/matt-cutts-stick-a-fork-in-it-guest-blogging-is-done-182147
Create good content and start to share using social media, forums. This will bring people back to you website or maybe not if the content is boring.
Create a good tile "How to fix a pipe with your eyes closed" with good meaningful info.
Also if you need more industry specific specialists who will have an interest in the content you post, visit followerswonk.
Hope this helps?

Everything lies in the last paragraph of the post
"I just want to highlight that a bunch of low-quality or spam sites have latched on to “guest blogging” as their link-building strategy, and we see a lot more spammy attempts to do guest blogging. "
Hope that helps!

Let me go and answer it one by one!
When you have a great content that you know can drive people come to your site after reading it, then go ahead and guest blog it! But if you think good amount of bloggers and audience will be interested in your piece then try to put it on your own blog and promote it so that people can find your piece and share it naturally.
This will bring your social shares, authority and links as well.
On Second question, creating content for links only… this is what Google actually hates! If plumber needs quality links naturally, my advice would be to invest time in creating a content that directly help their audience. Let’s say he write about “when calling a plumber is not a good idea!” And promote the post… as this is eye catchy content for the targeted audience, they will not only read but also share it with their circles…
Once they find the website helpful, they will most probably come to that site because of the trust factor! More traffic means more leads J
Hope this helps!

Couple of follow up questions:
-
Is I have really great/useful content is it really better to post it on someone else's site with links to my own, or to just post it try to get people to share it?
-
What about middle of the road content? For example, a client who is a plumber might want to post on area sites about how to keep your pipes from freezing over the winter. Useful info, but the only reason to put it on someone else's site is to get the backlink. Is that a bad idea?

I don’t really think Guest Blogging is even dead but yes if you were using guest blogging as a sole reason to get links to your website, probably Guest Blogging was never an option for you!
Google is tightening areas for spammers and low quality thin content producers so I don’t think there is any other alternate available but to change the way you think and try natural ways to get links!
My advice to you is to research your niche and create the content that people are actually looking for! Promote the content and you will see links will eventually follow you!!
If you are still confused about if Guest Blogging is there or not, here is the post I wrote on my blog where I discussed in detail about who Matt is actually targeting in his blog post! http://www.setalks.com/guest-blogging-dont-panic
Hope this helps!

The better my blog gets, the lower my rankings!
My blog was hit by Google Panda on July 21. My rankings dropped dramatically overnight. Nothing I do is helping. In fact, the day my guest post was published on one of the biggest blogs in my niche (DA over 70) my Google impressions dropped to an all time low and then got worse. (250 impressions and 12 clicks) You can see the first drop and the second drop in these screenshots and yes Google Webmasters and Google Analytics match. http://tinypic.com/r/2dvtvlj/5 http://tinypic.com/r/4u83t4/5 I am getting more fans, subscribers, traffic etc but my Google traffic just gets worse. I would really like to get some organic traffic! But I have no idea why this is happening. I checked manual actions and there is nothing. I cleaned up crawl errors and duplicate content. I get several backlinks a week within my niche from high authority sites. I just don't get it and I am very discouraged. What should I do?

High Quality Guest Blog Swapping
I have tried checking out a few of the big guest blogging sites out there but every time I create a killer article the site that offers to publish it is normally some suspiciously spammy side with a low Moz score. Does anyone know any sites where guest bloggers can link up to swap high quality blog posts. Maybe one that requires some filtering of poor quality host blogs?

When leaving guest posts on blogs, are blog profiles such as Disqus relevant for SEO?
In other words, instead of the comment linking back to the money site it is being linked back to a blog profile which contains a link to the money site. Is this still as effective?

Is it better to have a blog under your main website's domain or should the company's blog have its own domain?
Is it better to have a blog under your main website's domain or should the company's blog have its own domain? And if the blog is on its own domain, do links to the main site look good or bad to Google? Thanks! (And please feel free to add any other related advice you might have...)

Are guest post exchanges an acceptable tactic?
Suppose you publish a guest post on a relevant and quality blog and then you have that site also write a guest post for you. Is this considered natural? What do you think of this tactic? Is there risk of a penalty for exchanging links?

Moving content archive from a new blog to a mature content website?
I'm working with a publisher who has a young blog that is 6 mos old and is considering folding it and moving it's archive of content into a relavent, more mature website. This blog already has numerous links directing readers to this more mature website. My question is would it make more sense to leave the blog in place and continue to publish new posts and benefit from the link relationship with the mature website? Considering the blog is relatively new, would it matter much if we folded and moved it's archive?

What is the purpose of submitting your blog articles to directories?
I was wondering what the purpose of submitting your blog articles to directories are. Doesn't it require enough "points" or "+1's" for it to become a "do-follow" link? People on the forum talk about automating directory submission, can anyone recommend a good software for this? I've been hearing that Google Penalizes you for article submission because it looks like spam?
