Best type of backlinks... Right? What do you think?
-
I was just thinking... wouldn't the best types of backlinks for any small local business be from "their own competitors" ? Weird, I know... but it would NOT get any more relevant than that.
I mean wouldn't an Italian restaurant in New York gain credibility and higher ranks on SE's if "other" 'Italian restaurants in New York' linked back to them?
Problem... yeap! It would be really hard to convince your "competition" to link back to ya! no matter how good your content piece is! Thoughts?

Technically speaking NO!
Getting a link from the competitor isn’t always the best link because competitors (if higher in rankings) are better then you but they are not the best themselves.
In my opinion the technical link will still be a link from authoritative sites (Media, Magazine or more) because search engine trust them way more then they trust your direct competitors.

As per your Italian Restaurant example, the best links will be from other Italian Restaurant websites.
The million dollar questions is, how do you get your competitors to link back to you? Why would they do that and benefits would they get from it?

Best of the Web Still Prime Backlink Real Estate
Hello, I was doing competitive research and our top competitor has a clean backlink profile that includes the Best Of The Web directory. The top people on this Q&A used to recommend them and DMOZ for the only true good directory links. Is this still true or is Best Of The Web less important now? We only are listed in a small handful of directories, and not anything recent besides DMOZ. Thanks, Bob

What is your best technique of getting .Gov and .Edu links?
I'm looking for some great techniques to get .Gov and .Edu links. Please do not comment "Great content" because I know that. I'm looking for something beyond creating great linkworthy content.

Determining why an established competitor's rankings have bombed - What's the best way to go about it?
I arrived at work this morning to find my weekly SEOmoz ranking report for a main competitor waiting in my inbox. 90% of the their rankings have tanked in the last day or so by an average of 3 pages - most down from page 1 or 2 where they had been sitting pretty for ages. I'm not in a state of (total) euphoria about this because a) you should be humble enough not to gloat at your enemy's demise, and b) I need to find out what they did wrong so that I don't make the same mistake, too. **What is your first suggested port of call to determine where my (vanquished) foe has gone wrong? How much can I find out? ** I do know one thing - with OSE I can see they've used dodgy blogging services but this, to my mind, would have been jumped upon by Google last year. No? Thanks guys

Is using photos of people to market your ecommce a good idea? Do you think people relate more?
So I noticed all the leading competitors in our market are using photos of people on their home pages to market products.. While we are using a simple but eye catching design with no photos of people but only produts.

What's the best way to make sure a link is worth getting?
I know what tools to use and I use all of SEOmoz's tools daily. PA, DA, MR, & MT are all things I take into account, but sometimes all you have to do is look at a site and you can tell it's not worth it. I'll analyze the page's backlink's and everything in between. Are there any tricks out there that can help the decision making process? I'm tired of trying to get links on sites that clearly are not worth it, but all of their stats say otherwise. So do you stick with stats, or is it a judgement call? I'm particularly curious about determining the amount of possible traffic from a link. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

How to do this type of listing on Google organic search results?
The typical listing looks like this (as im sure you know): However, one of my competitors has a listing that looks like the following: (http://i.imgur.com/Io1oX.png - link to image if its too small for you to see) How do they do this? Am i right in thinking this is a lot better for SEO because effectively it takes up 3-4 positions on search results? YIHQA.png Io1oX.png Io1oX.png

Best Traffic Estimation Tool
Hello, What is the best system/tool to estimate traffic to a site, something more accurate than Alexa rank. This is of course assuming that one does not have access to the site's Google Analytics data, Thanks, Carl
