How to track data from old site and new site with the same URL?
-
We are launching a new site within the next 48 hours. We have already purchased the 30 day trial and we will continue to use this tool once the new site is launched.
Just looking for some tips and/or best practices so we can compare the old data vs. the new data moving forward....thank you in advance for your response(s).

I did receive the email. However, I never saw the the "Mark as Answered" button so I just marked GOOD ANSWER. Hope this helps...
-
It should already be marked as answered, since you selected answers as a "good answer".
We just deployed a new script today that emails people after one week if their question is still "unanswered", and there may be a bug there. We'll take a look. Thanks for letting us know!
Edit: I looked at timestamps, and I think we emailed you, then you came and marked several responses a "good answer", which marked the question as answered, and removed the "mark as answered" button the emails talked about.
-
OK, now a stupid question - how do I mark my Question as ANSWERED? Moz is sending me emails telling me to "Mark as Answered" yet I do not know how to do that...thank you in advance.

If you have many inbound links or landing page traffic for the old page URLs, will you be redirecting those old URLs to your new URLs?
-
Wow, thanks for the responses Ruth and S_Curtis. I guess what I am trying to do might just be impossible. The main URL will remain the same; most of the other page URL's are going to be eliminated (old site) or updated (new site).
I will definitely make sure to note the switch over date and monitor what pages are or are not working - thanks for that tip as well Ruth.
Have a great day everyone - PB3

What analytics tool are you using? I know that both Google Analytics and SiteCatalyst have functions where you can make a note of changes - make sure you've recorded the date of the change so you can compare back and forth and as time goes on, remember exactly when the switch happened.
I would also run some comparison reports for equal amounts of time before and after the switch - things like your most popular pages by organic traffic, home page visits, etc. That will show you right away if an important page has stopped doing well.
In the Moz tool, tracking rankings before and after is definitely a good thing to do. You should also dig in and see which pages are ranking for your target terms before and after the switch to make sure it's still the page you want ranking for the keyword you want.
Lastly, don't forget that your site switch didn't occur in a vacuum. Take into account factors such as seasonality that could also be impacting your traffic post-switch.

I find the Rank Tracker tool really useful for this. Put in the keywords you are interested in then tick "track history". It make take a while for things to change but you can see what has happened. You are also not restricted to the weekly ranking update so you can do it now and capture the current rank of your old site before launch.

Looking to Hire an SEO Expert for Travel Site
Hello Everyone, I hope this is OK to post here. I run a travel website and we operate tours abroad. We are slowly expanding after nearly 10 years in the field. I started the company from scratch and currently do my own website design and SEO work. However, over the last couple of years I've lost the SEO connection due to being so darn busy. I started account here with SEO Moz in order to get the ball rolling again. We continually rank high for keywords, publish superb content by great writers, and overall are doing fine. I would just like to ensure this keeps happening and that we have an expert on board to help us in sustainable organic SEO practices. What I'd like to do is hire an SEO expert to help with our site. It might be part time (10 or so hours per week, perhaps?) Anyhow, I would like if this person used SeoMoz and really had their fingers on the pulse of the SEO world. I want all white-hat SEO, help with page optimization, internal link structure, and help getting quality external links. I know that over optimization is something that is now on the forefront of SEO work, so of course keeping this in mind helps. I would like to be kept up to date (perhaps weekly overviews of data and how we are doing) and am willing to make changes as quickly as needed on the site. I would like to see how we rank with competitors and what we need to do to stay on top - for the long term (no short sighted decisions). I want to learn as we progress, not because I want to do the SEO work myself, I just enjoy knowing what is going on. I will not micromanage. I am too busy for that : ) I am not sure what amount SEO experts are paid, but I have a slightly flexible budget. I really want someone will communicate when needed and is thorough in their responses. Attention to detail is a must. I would prefer an SEO expert located in the US but who also knows how to access / think about markets abroad (Canada/UK/Australia). I suppose we can discuss pay once I have a shortlisted group. I am looking to hire and work with someone starting pretty much immediately (even in May). For starters, I suppose our budget might be $500 to $1500 per month. For the first month or so, we might offer payment on a stipend basis just so we can ensure whoever is hired is the perfect fit. It would be great if this person had worked on travel sites before or has at least traveled abroad a few times. But, no worries either way. Thanks so much! Thomas at jbt@journeybeyondtravel.com

Bulk OSE Open Site Explorer Tool?
I am trying to do some spring cleaning for a client and hoping to prune any unnecessary domains. Is there a tool that will check, in bulk, these domains through Open Site Explorer? I've looked through all the different Excel spread sheet apps and google doc apps but they are incredibly buggy if they work at all since SEOmoz changed their data limits. Maybe a new tool has been updated in the last few months that I am not aware of. Thanks!

Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer?
Hi, Is there any alternatives to Yahoo Site Explorer? I want to find backlinks of some unavailable pages and YSE was a great tool to deal with. But when I used tools like Open Site Explorer, ahrefs.com etc., I couldn't find one same like YSE. Because when I tried, it shows'No data available for this URL' where on YSE I found inbound links. What Alternatives Are There? thanks in advance!

What is the quickest way to get OSE data for many URLs all at once?
I have over 400 URLs in a spreadsheet and I would like to get Open Site Explorer data (domain/page authority/trust etc) for each URL. Would I use the Linkscape API to do this quickly (ie not manually entering every single site into OSE)? Or is there something in OSE or a tool I am overlooking? And whatever the best process is, can you give a brief overview? Thanks!! -Dan
