How to Submit XML Site Map with more than 300 Subdomains?

Hi,
I am creating sitemaps for site which has more than 500 Sub domains. Page varies from 20 to 500 in all subdomains & it will keep on adding in coming months.I have seen sites that create separate sitemap.xml for each subdomain which they mention in separate robots.txt file http://windows7.iyogi.com/robots.txt
XML site map eg for subdomain: http://windows7.iyogi.com/sitemap.xml.gz ,
Currently in my website we have only 1 robots.txt file for main domain & sub domains.
Please tell me shall i create separate robots.txt & XML site map file for each subdomain or 1 file. Creating separate xml for each sub-domain is not feasible as we have to verify in GWT separately.
Is there any automatic way & do i have to ping separately if i add new pages in subdomain.
Please advise me.

Yea in wordpress that option is available, but we are using Ruby On rails platform, so i am not sure whether we can do or not.
For eg http://windows7.iyogi.com/sitemap.xml.gz they use Wordpress CMS & it's mentioned in page that
"It was generated using the Blogging-Software WordPress and the Google Sitemap Generator Plugin by Arne Brachhold."
Anyway thx for ur help i will speak to my smart developers, let's c what they can do

Okay with this little bit of information it does sound like it might in fact be legitimate.
If it is, then the best solution is to work with the development team to automate the creation of each sitemap.xml file, and have them submitted to Google automatically, I know this is possible because I use the google Sitemaps plug-in for WordPress - and it automatically submits to Google and Bing.How it does that I do not know. That's up to smart web developers to figure out and replicate.

Hi Alan, i recently joined this co & i can't change the whole structure.
I believe they have created virtual sub - domains & Moreover site traffic is growing at a great rate so they can't think of changing structure.
Last month it has been ranked as 20th Most visited website in India, so things are pretty fine. Moreover it's an education website and students can easily remember Subdomain URL eg: http://gmat.abc.com . also direct traffic to these sub domains is very high. So now how should i solve problem of XML sitemap

The more important, and URGENT issue is why are there so many subdomains, and why are there going to be more? That's got to be one of the most serious and potentially harmful things you could do to your SEO efforts unless it's an extremely rare situation that justifies the tactic.

Hosting Sites under same IP / subdomain usage?
Hello everyone! The company I am working for is working on selling websites templates to clients in the near future. In terms of SEO purposes, would it be detrimental for our clients if we hosted all of these sites under the same server/IP? Also, in the past we've sold sites under a domain we own, adding them on as a subdomain. For example, we would own yourflowers.com, and if Mark's Flowers wanted a site, we would give him: marksflowers.yourflowers.com These sites are going to be the same niche as we are industry specific (example would be, we sell website templates specifically designed for flower shops around the United States). I want the best possible SEO experience for our clients and I believe using subdomains and hosting under the same server IP can be detrimental, but I wanted to see what the Moz community thinks of this. Replacing a site map
We are in the process of changing our folder/url structure. Currently we have about 5 sitemaps submitted to Google. How is it best to deal with these site maps in terms of either (a) replacing the old URLs with the new ones in the site map and (b) what affect should we have if we removed the site map submission from the Google Webmaster Tools console. Basically we have in the region of 20,000 urls to redirect to the new format, and to update in the site map.

Site Hosting Question
We are UK based web designers who have recently been asked to build a website for an Australian Charity. Normally we would host the website in the UK with our current hosting company, but as this is an Australian website with an .au domain I was wondering if it would be better to host it in Australia. If it is better to host it in Australia, I would appreciate if someone could give me the name of a reasonably priced hosting company. Thanks Fraser

Moving Duplicate Sites
Apologies in advance for the complexity. My client, company A, has purchased company B in the same industry, with A and B having separate domains. Current hosting arrangement combines registrar and hosting functions in 1 account so as to allow both domains to point to a common folder, with the result that identical content is displayed for both A & B. The current site is kind of an amalgam of A and B. Company A has decided to rebrand and completely absorb company B. The problem is that link value overwhelmingly favours B over A. The current (only) hosting package is Windows, and I am creating a new site and moving them to Linux with another hosting company. I can use 301's for A , but not for B as it is a separate domain and currently shares a hosting package with A. How can I best preserve the link juice that domain B has? The only conclusion I can come up with is to set up separate Linux hosting for B which will allow for the use of 301's. Does anyone have a better idea?

.CA site same as .com site - are both necessary?
Dear Friend, We representa a major national brand in the auto care industry, and they have locations in both US and Canada. There is a primary content site at .com that we have duplicated at .ca. We are hosting the .ca site on a separate IP on a server in Canada - but by in large it is the same site. (there are some minor changes we made to change US English to Canadian English - though minor. When we search Google.ca we generally see strong search results for the .com site, but rarely, if ever any evidence of rankings for the .ca site. The .com site was launched several years ago about 18 months before the .ca site. Why doesn't Google.ca show the .ca site? Is this an issue of duplicate content, and Google.ca simply shows the .com version which it knew about first? Are we wasting our time, money and efforts having both? Thanks, Tim ps. this isn't about location. We use a separate site to locate local shops, and have coordinated that well with Google Places, and when looking for local auto care - we do well in both US and Canada. The sites described above are largetl content sites.
