- Truth ? ''link building isn't considered a suitable way of promotion as per recent search engine updates''
-
I need SEO.
A SEO consultant said:
''link building isn't considered a suitable way of promotion as per recent search engine updates''
they mention:
''Therefore we would be undertaking a range
of promotional exercises such as blog postings, social book marking, press release, etc that are more effective for ensuring best
possible rankings for the website.''
Do you agree?
Thank you

This is a strange thing for an SEO company to say, because it's still widely accepted that good links pass PageRank / authority and add to the likelihood that a site will rank well for its chosen keywords. "Link building" itself might not be a term that fills Google with joy, but it's still a valuable way to improve a site's rankings and Google knows it. The truth lies somewhere in the middle if you want to stay white-hat: you need links, but you should acquire them in a way that does not constitute buying or being manipulative (again, if you want to stay to the letter of Google's law).
The activities they mention are fairly standard "link building" tactics though, and something like "social bookmarking" was a type of link building that lost popularity due to being ineffective nearly 10 years ago. I would have doubts about their SEO chops if they cite both link building as being out of bounds, and social bookmarking as being a good tactic!

I'd want a few more details. Most blog posts and press releases have links in them. Social bookmarking is all about links. Google has also gone against press releases just for links, as well as blog posts just for links.

I think it depends. Obviously having solid content is the best way to gain a natural following thus increase your ranking. It has been mentioned recently that small businesses should not look for un-natural web links and focus more on creating good content. The reasoning behind it is to eliminate any black-hat link techniques of the past once and for all. I don't buy into the idea that good solid links to good solid content won't help you. I think the future of search will probably be creating a natural mix of all of the above.
To answer your question, I agree and disagree. It's not like good links are going to hurt you. However, it should be more important to develop the content to get those links in a natural way.

Do search engine consider this duplicate or thin content?
I operate an eCommerce site selling various equipment. We get product descriptions and various info from the manufacturer's websites offered to the dealers. Part of that info is in the form of User Guides and Operational Manuals downloaded in pdf format written by the manufacturer, then uploaded to our site. Also we embed and link to videos that are hosted on the manufacturer's respective YouTube or Vimeo channels. This is useful content for our customers.

My questions are: Does this type of content help our site by offering useful info, or does it hurt our SEO due to it being thin and or duplicate content? Or does the original content publishers get all the benefit? Is there any benefit to us publishing this stuff? What exactly is considered "thin content"?0 -
Getting too many links on Google search results, how do I fix?
I'm a total newbie so I apologize for what I am sure is a dumb question — I recently followed Moz suggestions for increasing visibility on my site for a specific keyword by including that keyword in more verbose page descriptions for multiple pages. This worked TOO well as now that keyword is bringing up too many results in Google for these different pages on my site . . . is there a way to compile them into one result with the subpages like for instance, the attached image for a search on Apple? Do I need to change something in my robots.txt file to direct these to my main page? Basically, I am a photographer and a search for my name now brings up each of my different photo gallery pages in multiple results, it's a little over the top. Thanks for any and all help! CNPJZgb

What is the proper way to execute 'page to page redirection'
I need to redirection every page of my website to a new url of another site I've made. I intend to add:"Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.example.com/newpage.html"I will use the 301 per page to redirect every page of my site, but I'm confused that if I add:"Redirect 301 / http://mt-example.com/" it will redirect all of my pages to the homepage and ignore the URLs i have separately mentioned for redirection. Please guide me.

When Mobile and Desktop sites have the same page URLs, how should I handle the 'View Desktop Site' link on a mobile site to ensure a smooth crawl?
We're about to roll out a mobile site. The mobile and desktop URLs are the same. User Agent determines whether you see the desktop or mobile version of the site. At the bottom of the page is a 'View Desktop Site' link that will present the desktop version of the site to mobile user agents when clicked. I'm concerned that when the mobile crawler crawls our site it will crawl both our entire mobile site, then click 'View Desktop Site' and crawl our entire desktop site as well. Since mobile and desktop URLs are the same, the mobile crawler will end up crawling both mobile and desktop versions of each URL. Any tips on what we can do to make sure the mobile crawler either doesn't access the desktop site, or that we can let it know what is the mobile version of the page? We could simply not show the 'View Desktop Site' to the mobile crawler, but I'm interested to hear if others have encountered this issue and have any other recommended ways for handling it. Thanks!

How to remove my site's pages in search results?
I have tested hundreds of pages to see if Google will properly crawl, index and cached them. Now, I want these pages to be removed in Google search except for homepage. What should be the rule in robots.txt? I use this rule, but I am not sure if Google will remove the hundreds of pages (for my testing). User-agent: *

Anyone managed to change 'At a glance:' in local search results
On Google's local search results, i.e when the 'Google places' data is displayed along with the map on the right hand side of the search results, there is also an element 'At a glance:'
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DeanAndrews
The data that if being displayed is from some years ago and the client would if possible like it to reflect there current services, which they have been providing for some five years. According to Google support here - http://support.google.com/maps/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1344353 this cannot be changed, they say 'Can I edit a listing’s descriptive terms or suggest a new one?
No; the terms are not reviewed, curated, or edited. They come from an algorithm, and we do not help that algorithm figure it out. ' My question is has anyone successfully influenced this data and if so how.0 -
Blog content - what to do, and what to avoid in terms of links, when you're paying for blog content
Hi, I've just been looking at a restaurant site which is paying food writers to put food news and blogs on their website. I checked the backlink profile of the site and the various bloggers in question usually link from their blogs / company websites to the said restaurant to help promote any new blogs that appear on the restaurant site. That got me wondering about whether this might cause problems with Google. I guess they've been putting about one blog live per month for 2 years, from 12/13 bloggers who have been linking to their website. What would you advise?
