Google places user reviews + New URL
-
I currently have a Google places location.
Years of hard work, sweat and tears have resulted in a high number of user reviews.I'm looking to rebrand and therefore change the website url. Will changing the url in Google places reset my profile or remove my user reviews.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Mark

Hi Alex,
Thank you for your insight and words of wisdom.
It's comforting to know that using G+ Social, NAP (company name, address, telephone number), marker location and website url can be changed without losing user reviews.
Thanks Mark

I have never had an issue changing the URL for a place page, either old Places style or new G+ social.
URL was never part of the old NAP based id system, and it is quite common for a business to change/update the URL of there business. I would feel safe in making that change on your page.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for the detailed answer.
I have the Google+ Social (posts tab present).
Have you ever changed the Domain URL or know anybody that has with success?Whilst I understand the NAP logic, I just need to be certain of the url change.
Thanks Mark

In the past, Google Local listings where governed by what is called the NAP - Name, Address, Phone. Changing any of these three elements 'could' cause the listing to break away from the reviews. This was also complicated by the fact that data for your listing was stored in multiple databases for Places, MapMaker and Google+ and the data would be syncing from one DB to the other all the time, often causing edits to revert to an older version.
BUT, as Google now moves more towards the Google+ Social model they have also moved to a single/central DB for local listings. With this new model, if your local listing is claimed and verified AND upgraded to a Google+ social listing, things become much more stable, and seem to no longer use the fragile NAP based system. I have been able to edit Name, Address and Phone, move the marker to a new location and have all my reviews safely move with me.
If you attempt to edit those and your listing is just a regular Place listing and not Google+ social (has the posts tab) then you are almost certain to loose your reviews in the process.

Google My Business right had side block disapeared for a brand search
Hi Just redeveloped my site and went live end of April Since then whenever i do a branded search the GMB 'pack' has always shown on the right hand side whenever i do a branded search but it has disapeared as of the last couple of days. Any ideas why this can happen ? and is it anything to worry about or just a google 'glitch' that should right itself soon? If not any ideas how to fix ? (accounts and website all properly linked) etc When i go to GMB dashboard and click 'View on Search' it does show up as it should, but not when i go to do a google search for the brand name !? All Best Dan

Google Merchant XML don`t allow price variations, so I have two options
Hi guys I have a question about google merchant set up: Products on my website have a single URL with the material option. Each material has a different price for the same product. Ex: A Winter Coat, if it is leather the price is $100 if it is fabric is $80 if it is on Nylon $60.

Google Merchant XML dont allow price variations, so I have two options1) Create only one entry for product and chose one price. When the user arrives on the page he can choose other material and prices. MXL ExProduct: Winter Coat, price 60, Product: www.store.com/winter-coat2) Create a single entry on the XML for each product/material variant. Ex:Product 1: Winter Coat Leather, price 100, www.store.com/winter-coat?q=leatherProduct 2: Winter Coat Fabric, price 80, www.store.com/winter-coat?q=fabric Product 3: Winter Coat Nylon, price 60, www.store.com/winter-coat?q=nylonWhich one its better for SEO? On option 2 Google can punish me for duplicate products?Thanks0 -
How many Google reviews can I collect at once?
I work for a University with 10,000+ students and alumni that could submit reviews. But how many reviews should I be collecting at one time? I don't want to overload the reviews and put up a red flag in Google...any insight on how much is too much?

If I use schema markup for my google reviews, would it be smart to have Google review's on my home page?
Hello, Moz's I'm thinking about added scheme markup to show my google reviews. I have a 4.8 rating and 25 reviews. I'm thinking about added scheme markup to show my google reviews. I have a 4.8 rating and 25 reviews. My first question is: when people see that and then visit my site, would it be good to have the Google reviews on the home page? My second questions is: Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to add this to my site? None of my competition has done this, so I'm a little apprehensive? Thanks in advance 🙂

Rich snippets not showing up in Google
Would anyone know why after adding schema.org markup to a websites products, reviews and ratings why it still isn't showing up in Google SERPs? Does Google pick and choose who's rich snippets get displayed on a random basis or some other criteria?

Google Review Guidelines update.
OK Moz peeps... Right then, I have just been reading an article over on SEO RoundTable from Barry Schwartz. NEW Local review guidelines for businesses - take a look. It in effect alludes to Google stamping all over review schema and snippets, third party review solutions/providers and really trying to limit how they are used. I have interpreted the new guidelines to say that you can no longer mark up and use external stats on your own site in the form of aggregate ratings from the likes of TrustPilot, Feefo, Revoo (some uk review sites) and more.... These were the two key lines for more Only include reviews that have been directly produced by your site, not reviews from third-party sites or syndicated reviews. Aggregators or content providers must have no commercial agreements paid or otherwise with businesses to provide reviews. What does everyone else think? and how soon before people get penalised (if ever) for marking up external stats to make your own site and services look more favourable... Could definately be a slap in the face for Serp CTR and onpage conversion optimisation. Also how do people expect this to affect PPC review rating going forward. Will Partner sites become a thing of the past? Looking forward to a good discussion here 🙂 PS - I am not staff at Moz just have a t-shirt which is my avatar. I am not sure why below my avatar it suggests I am Staff due to the tag added to it. Is anyone else getting that on their profile too?

What are some powerful reviews websites for online-only businesses?
Looking for a small handful of places that I can lead customers to, following a transaction with my dot com (i.e., no brick and mortar presence) business, so that they can leave reviews Chiefly interested in the sites that Google is most likely to notice Thanks! 🙂

Wondering best ways to optimize for google maps/local listing
I'm wondering if there is any strategy to optimize a client to show up in the local listings. I assume a lot of this is tied to Google + / Google Places for Business. Is it possible to have a company show up in the local listings over a certain geographic area even if they are not technically addressed in that area? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Dan H.
