Linked my adwords account to GA and vice versa and still paid search is getting recorded into organic traffic??
-
Hi Mozzers,
I have linked properly my adwords account to GA and vice versa and somehow I can see 3/4 of this paid traffic recorded to organic search. The most confusing part is that I can see 1/4 of the paid traffic under the "paid" metric.
At this point I don't know really what should I do?
Thank you guys in advance!

Hey Taysir,
Nope, that's not normal. The adwords linking is at the property level and the view will pull that information in as it appears.
Can you double check the filters on your LA & SF views (used to be called profiles)? Just to make sure that you aren't excluding any sort of paid traffic?
Unfortunately, this is becoming more complicated the more detailed we get and is going to become impossible for me to troubleshoot without being in the account.

Thanks for clarification but here is where I am confused.
Again this is under the same UA 123456XXX-X property
For instance the seattle profile shows adwords data on GA such as the keywords but somehow the LA and SF GA profiles shows only (not set).
Is this normal?
Thanks Jasmine!

No, once you link your adwords account it should be done forever.
So if you're linking one AdWords account to one GA profile then you are correct. It would look like this::
AdWords XXX-XXX-0123
- SEA
- LA
- SF
SEA, LA, & SF GA Profile UAXXXX333-3 linked to AdWords XXX-XXX-0123
Of course, the data will never be exactly the same. You can always double check click information inside the AdWords segment of GA.
Tangent:
Here's an example, of when you would need to link your AdWords account more than once::
AdWords XXX-XXX-0123- SEA
- LA
- SF
SEA GA Profile UAXXXX444-4 linked to AdWords XXX-XXX-0123
LA GA Profile UAXXXX555-5 linked to AdWords XXX-XXX-0123
SF GA Profile UAXXXX666-6 linked to AdWords XXX-XXX-0123When your profiles have different profiles with different UA numbers, you will need to link AdWords & GA more than once.

Yes it is
Whenever you have multiple GA profiles that tracks separate ads(SF, Seattle, LA). Do you still need to link your adwords and GA multiple times or when it is done once, it is good to go?
EX:
1 Adwords account for multiple groups of ads for
San francisco
LA
SEattle...
and 1 GA account with profile for
San Francisco
LA
Seattle
thanks!

Thank you Paul
But it has been auto tagged properly since few months ago. That is why I am really confused since it is still showing under organic.
-
Have you made certain that you've enabled auto-tagging in your Adwords account as well, Taysir? That's necessary in addition to linking the accounts in order for GA to properly detect all the paid traffic.
Also, remember that GA will only be able to split out the traffic from now on - it can't go back and split out the traffic for time periods from before you made the updates to Adwords.

Tracking links and duplicate content
Hi all, I have a bit of a conundrum for you all pertaining to a tracking link issue I have run into on a clients site. They currently have over duplicate content. Currently, they have over 15,000 pages being crawled (using Screaming Frog) but only 7,000+ are legitimate pages in the sense of they are not duplicates of themselves. The client is using Omniture instead of Google Analytics and using an advanced tracking system on their site for internal and external links (ictids and ectids) in the URL parameters. This is creating thousands of duplicated pages being crawled by Google (as seen on their Search Console and on Screaming Frog). They also are in the middle of moving over from http to https and have thousands of pages currently set up for both, again, creating a duplicate content issue. What I have suggested for the tracking links is setting up a URL parameter in Search Console for these tracking links. I've also suggested they canonical all tracking links to point to the clean page so the pages that have already been indexed point to the correct clean url. Does this seam like the appropriate strategy? Additionally, I've told them before they submit a new sitemap to Google, they need to switch their website over to https to avoid worsening their duplicate content issue. They have not submitted a sitemap to Google Search Console since March 2015. Thank you for any help you can offer!

Drop in indexation but increase in organic traffic
We've had a puzzling drop in indexed pages on our ecommerce website. My crawl returns just over 25k items. Until 19/6 we had about 23-24k indexed. Then we experienced a sudden drop from 19/6 to 26/6: from 23,400 to 18,999, losing 4.4k pages from one week to the next. At the same time, our organic traffic has not decreased, it actually increased, however, it's only been a couple of weeks so that may be coincidence. A few things that have happened during the past few weeks: 31/5: we implemented pagination on category pages to avoid issues with duplicate content - could it be that this led to a decrease in indexed pages 3 weeks later? However, I can only find about 1.5k pages in my crawl that are page 2+ 18-19/6: we had some website outages over the weekend; as a B2B business, we don't get much traffic over the weekend, so I can't see an impact to traffic. However, the following week, indexation dropped by another 250 (then stayed the same this past week), so I don't think this was a factor. 21/6: we retired another website and migrated it to our main website. However, all pages were redirected to existing pages so no new pages were created for the migration. This doesn't really explain a decrease in indexation, but may account for some of the increase in organic traffic; however not all as the retired website hardly got any organic traffic. So, should we be worried? As our website is quite large, it would probably be quite difficult to pin point exactly which pages dropped off the index, but a loss of 19% of pages is quite significant. Then again, it doesn't appear to have negatively impacted organic traffic... Have you got any suggestions for what I should be looking at to find out what happened? Should I be worried at this point? I will definitely continue to have an eye on how our organic traffic (and indexation) develops but I am not sure if there is anything I can do at this point. I'd appreciate your advice on this, to make sure I am not missing something blindingly obvious. Thanks! RmWaNib JJm4tC3

Creating Goals in GA
Hi I don't know if the below can be done, and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Ideally I want to capture the event of registering for an account. Ultimately I want to know which products, pages etc drive customer registrations but which do not lead to a purchase (Registered Not Bought). Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks Andy

Get anchor text, nofollow info etc from a list of links
Hi everybody. I'm currently doing a backlink audit for a client and I've hit a small problem. I'm combining data from Ahrefs, OSE, Webmaster Tools and Link Detox. I've got around 27k links in total now, but the issue is that WMT does not provide data on target page, anchor text and nofollow/dofollow. This means I have around 1k links with only partial information. Does anyone know of a way that I can get this data automatically? Thanks!

No Internal Followed Links on My Site?
I just ran the Site Explorer on my site (myeyedr.com) and it reported that there are no internal links on www.myeyedr.com or myeyedr.com. However, there were 20 internal followed links on www.myeyedr.com/index.aspx. I'm guessing this is hurting my SEO. Any suggestions?
