Phone number Schema that Google WMT blog talked about this week throwing HTML Validation error
-
My code looks like this:
The HTML validation errors are these:
Attribute contacttype not allowed on element span at this point.
Attribute areaserved not allowed on element span at this point.
Attribute contactoption not allowed on element span at this point.
Attribute availablelanguage not allowed on element span at this point.Have I misread how to implement this schema or is html validation not up to speed and I should ignore for now?
Thanks!

Thanks for double checking for me. I appreciate it!

The rich snippet testing tool looks to show valid schema markup on the page you sent and the sample link I sent passed html5 validation. At this point looks like certain parts of the schema markup are not recognized by the validator. Good to know this is the case, thanks for sharing the link.
-
This page has the schema on the phone numbers in the top right and in the footer: http://m.mexpro.com/

Well the document in question needs to be formatted in HTML5, otherwise it will not validate correctly. So if you run an HTML4 or XHTML page through the HTML5 validator it will not pass. You can also check here to see if the structured data is implemented correctly. Are you able to provide an example of the page you are trying to validate?
-
I am positive I check with html4. I put the code in here so.... not sure what is up...Could the code put in for mobile look like it's in there twice and not validate?
-
Hello,
Are you sure you checked the HTML5 spec? This seems to validate for me and is only basic html5 with schema markup. It's possible you have not marked up the code properly. Google provides some examples to assist with this. I believe you need to do the full markup too, not just certain parts. Hope that helps.
-
It does not validate for html5, but thanks for your input.
-
Hello,
I believe it is valid under the HTML5 doctype, but not others. If you try and validate it under that doctype it clears validation. Generally I think you can ignore this issue for now as shouldn't cause any issues if it does not validate.

Google+ Brand Account Separate from Google My Business
Hi everyone, I tried to create a Google+ account from a client's Google My Business, but found that 'Enable Google+' is no longer available on the sidebar of the GMB dashboard. I used this tutorial to do that before - http://onlineownership.com/create-google-page-connected-google-business-page/ An update on that article: Update: 31st October 2017

Google My Business has confirmed that enabling a G+ business page will no longer be available. Users will need to now create a G+ Brand page for their business on G+. My question is: If we create a separate G+ Brand page, are we still able to tie it up with GMB or are they going to be completely different platforms? On the dashboard for our older clients we have a list that goes like: Your Business is Live on Google View on Search View on Maps View on Google+ In light of this new change. Do we still really have to bother creating G+ brand pages? It seems like the newly launched Google Posts is more user-friendly and easier to update. The posts could be created on GMB and it's going to appear on searches within the local knowledge graph. Thoughts?1 -
Schema type for non-profit fundraiser?
Anyone have bright ideas for which schema.org type to use for something like a run/walk fundraiser? Ive been using SportsEvent, but that's really more fit for, "I'm buying a ticket to watch the team play the football game at the stadium." What we're trying to do is sign folks up to create their own fundraising webpage, then show up at an event. Google wants ticketed events to have a performer, but this is more like RSVPing for a party. Events and products feel a bit like a round peg in a square hole, but Website seems really generic for everything going on in this kind of site. At the same time, participants are creating fundraising pages...yeah it's related to a location/time-based event, but visitors aren't really buying tickets to watch that runner "perform," they're donating to a non-profit to fight cancer. And think about applying the fundraiser to a non-sports event (e.g. donate your birthday, grow facial hair, be a secret santa, etc). Or a donation drive...those might have a product attached (kickstarter), or the giving itself might be the "product" (gofundme). Thoughts? Here's what I've mapped out at the moment, but I don't know how I feel about it.

Using Hashtag for Google My Business
I was told by a Google My Business representative to include #{keywords} in my description. I was told this would boost my rankings. Has anyone else heard of this?

Phone number inconsistencies - local search
Hi, Can you help me with something that is probably straightforward? A website which displays a different phone number to visitors to the one in the source code is using this for tracking purposes I assume? Since the phone number in the source code matches with the local citations I am assuming that there is no harm here in terms of local ranking? Thanks

Help with Google+ business name rules
I'm marketing a franchise gym business that has multiple locations within the same city. For the business name, I used to have it set as "Business Name" + City + Tagline. For example: "Ultimate Workout South Calgary Gym and Bootcamps". and "Ultimate Workout North Calgary Gym and Bootcamps". To comply with the google business naming rules I've updated all the listing to just business name. The problem is, now the local search results for my gym locations are confusing. Half the address is cut off in the results, the city is not displayed at all. And sometimes results from a neighbouring city are shown. Anyone have an idea on how to implement a strategy where people at a quick glance understand which location is best for them?

Google Plus Business Page is not showing up
Hello, I had 2 google+ business pages. But the website under those pages were different. For example, www.abc.com on 1st one and then www.xyz.com on 2nd one. Both of them had the different business name and website but same address and phone number. Also, www.abc.com domain was set as redirecting to www.xyz.com. My 1st business page was ranking good but I wanted to use 2nd one only so I called up google and asked them to remove the 1st one and then they closed it. Now, the problem is that I lost the 1st one and 2nd one is not ranking for any of the keyword (I have checked all the pages in the SERP and it doesn't show up anywhere until last page). I have fixed all the citations everywhere recently but no luck in getting ranking. Can anyone suggest what steps can be done to rank 2nd one now? FYI, I am talking about local places ranking, the domain www.xyz.com is ranked well in organic ranking. Any help is appreciated! Brian

Google automatically generating and verifying duplicate business pages?
Was on the phone with Google Support about duplicate, verified pages showing up and they said they're doing a "cleanse" in which an automated system is reviewing existing listings and making decisions as to how those look, which often results in a new page that Google then automatically verifies. Their Support phone system has been bogged down with people calling in, but I'm not seeing anything when I search about this issue. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Google+ Pages and the old places listing dashboard
I'm wondering if anyone can help me... I'm trying to set up Google+ and Google Local pages for some of our clients. For the newer clients this is easy as all their accounts are using the new Google Places dashboard which allows you to create the Local Listing and then the partnering Google+ page. Simples. Example: https://plus.google.com/+twistfix/ (A verified Google Local listing, with a verified Google+ page for the company) The problem I'm having is some of our older clients already had a Google Places listing from years ago, but this is on the old Google Dashboard (doesn't allow me to create a partnering Google+ page for the business). What is the best way around this? Do I delete these old listings and start fresh using the new Google dashboard (creating the local listing and Google+ page together?) or is there another fix?
