Competitor sites vs mine - No links, lower DA, and still beating me.
-
Thank you for taking the time to read my question.
I have a website - berneseoftherockies.com - it is a bernese mountain dog website
My competitors are
Rockymountainpuppies(dot)com
and
Coloradobernesemountaindog(dot)com
When using the Moz tools, I see they have no incoming links, except for one site has 5 links from its own pages.
But when I type in Bernese Mountain Dogs Colorado - I am no where to be found, except for a you tube video.
So what am I doing so wrong? They are basically doing nothing, and killing me in the serps.
I have gotten social media stuff like Google +, facebook, twitter, pinterest, and youtube.
They are still behind the times. So any thoughtful advice is appreciated. I mainly cater to the state of Colorado where I live. So just curious if there is something at the top of your head that you may think of that's causing my issues?
Like could it be my hosting? Like can you have a black listed host? I am with Hostdime
I did have a few, like 10 foreign backlinks, which I did remove or disavow I think its called.
I have used the title tag tools here to get proper size title tags, and decent keyword density.
I built the site for people first, then Google etc.
So not sure if you are allowed to tell me, but maybe you can advise me on a decent seo company, or maybe give me a couple tips that may help me out.
Please no - read the moz book, I am reading it and trying to do what I am reading. But maybe something simple is keeping me from showing up, while these other sites are.
Thank you so much for any advice.

Keep in mind that Moz tools use their own resources. We don't have access to Google's index or tools, and we don't have their resources, so we're not going to be able to show you data that's based on every link in existence for every site out there. So, when you look at your competitors and see they don't have strong metrics, it could be just because our tools haven't picked them up.
As far as companies go, if you want someone to take an in-depth look at your site and competitors and figure out a plan of action, we have a list of recommended companies in the footer that could be a good place to start.

After having 100's of bad ones from a 2011 seo, I have cleaned them up to about 10.
You could be penalized for those ten... or just one if you had a ton of crappy links... or the 50 that you can't see with the tool that you are using.
Most of the time when people come here pointing at a crap site above them... it is their site or their knowledge that is deficient. Google thinks your site deserves to rank lower. Understand that question before you ask what the sites above you are doing.

I understand the linking issue. After having 100's of bad ones from a 2011 seo, I have cleaned them up to about 10.
I just don't understand how another site with no links, like social edia, yellow pages, local citations etc are doing SO well.
Either way it is confusing on how to find a proper seo.
Maybe there is a blog post here or something on how to find a good seo?

Hi Chris,
There are so many possibilities to what is causing this that is could be impossible to cover all points here.
For example, how old is your site - how old are your competitors sites? Which site carries the most trust in the eyes of Google? Who has the most unique and useful content? Have you ever ranked well but now might have a penalty?

The way you're building links isn't going to work. Stop doing it that way.

SEO implications of using Marketing Automation landing pages vs on-site content
Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help here... I'm new to a company where due to the limitations of their Wordpress instance they've been creating what would ordinarily be considered pages in the standard sitemap as landing pages in their Pardot marketing automation platform. The URL subdomain is slightly different. Just wondering if anybody could quickly outline the SEO implications of doing this externally instead of directly on their site? Hope I'm making some sense... Thanks,

Our web site lost ranking on google a couple of years ago. We have done lots of work on it but still can not improve our search ranking. Can anyone give us some advise
A couple of years ago the ranking on our site dropped over night. I believe someone working here at the time purchased links about that time. We have been doing lots of work on the site since then to improve it. We can not get our rankings back up on google searches. Can anyone give us some advise about what to do or where to go for some help that we can trust.

Spam Links? -115 Domains Sharing the Same IP Address, to Remove or Not Remove Links
Out of 250 domains that link to my site about 115 are from low quality directories that are published by the same company and hosted on the same ip address. Examples of these directories are: -www.keydirectory.net -www.linkwind.com -www.sitepassage.com -www.ubdaily.com -www.linkyard.org A recent site audit from a reputable SEO firm identified 125 toxic links. I assume these are those toxic links. They also identified about another 80 suspicious domains linking to my site. They audit concluded that my site is suffering a partial Penguin penalty due to low quality links. My question is whether it is safe to remove these 125 links from the low quality directories. I am concerned that removing this quantity of links all at once will cause a drop in ranking because the link profile will be thin with only about 125 domains remaining that point to the site. Granted those 125 domains should be of somewhat better quality. I am playing with fire by having these removed. I URGENTLY NEED ADVICE AS THE WEBMASTER HAS INITIATED STEPS TO REMOVE THE 125 LINKS. Thanks everyone!!! Alan

Will an inbound follow link on a site be devalued by an inbound affiliate link on the same site?
Hey guys, quick question I didn't find an answer to online. Scenario: 1. Site A links to Site B. It's a natural, regular, follow-link 2. Site A joins Site B's affiliate program, and adds an affiliate link Question: Does the first, regular follow link get devalued by the second affiliate link? Cheers!

Better SEO Option, 1 Site 3 Subdomains or 4 Separate Sites?
Hey Mozzers, I'm working with a client who wants to redo their web presence. They have a a main website for the umbrella and then 3 divisions which have their own website as well. My question is: Is it better to have the main site on the main domain and then have the 3 separate sites be subdomains? Or 4 different domains with a linking structure to tie them all together? To my understanding option 1 would include high traffic for 1 domain and option 2 would be building Page Authority by having 4 different sites linking to each other? My guess would be option 2, only if all 4 sites start getting relevant authority to make the links of value. But right out of the gates option 1 might be more beneficial. A little advice/clarification would be great!

Migrating a site from a standalone site to a subdivision of large .gov.uk site
The scenario We’ve been asked by a client, a Non-Government Organisation who are being absorbed by a larger government ministry, for help with the SEO of their site. They will be going from a reasonably large standalone site to a small sub-directory on a high authority government site and they want some input on how best to maintain their rankings. They will be going from the Number 1 ranked site in their niche (current site domainRank 59) to being a sub directory on a domainRank 100 site). The current site will remain, but as a members only resource, behind a paywall. I’ve been checking to see the impact that it had on a related site, but that one has put a catch all 302 redirect on it’s pages so is losing the benefit of a it’s historical authority. My thoughts Robust 301 redirect set up to pass as much benefit as possible to the new pages. Focus on rewriting content to promote most effective keywords – would suggest testing of titles, meta descriptions etc but not sure how often they will be able to edit the new site. ‘We have moved’ messaging going out to webmasters of existing linking sites to try to encourage as much revision of linking as possible. Development of link-bait to try and get the new pages seen. Am I going about this the right way? Thanks in advance. Phil

Which link url placement to buy - High PR vs. High PA?
I'm about to buy one directory link (just the one!) but can't decide which URL to place my link on in that directory because of the varying metrics - which is better of the below (bearing in mind my own site is still a PR0 sitewide)? www.exampledirectory.com/categoryA/subtategory1/

Metrics: 21 linking domains, PA 44, DA 59, PR0 www.exampledirectory.com/categoryA/
Metrics:1 linking domain, PA 35, DA 59, PR5 I know PR is no longer relevant and usually ignore this metric (except for possible penalties) and just focus on Seomoz toolbar metrics, but as my own site itself is PA:37 and DA:28 homepage but PR0 completely sitewide (over 6 months old but relatively new site), I thought this might help to balance things. Thanks for your advice.0
