Does the follow link from the moz Profile really count after first with nofollow?
-
Hey all,
I discovered that the link from the public profile might not count. To my knowledge Google "counts" the first link to another page on any given page. The public profile has a nofollow link before your follow link:
Doesn't this invalidates all the public profile links? What is your stance on this?
Regards
Sebastian

Granted, this correction probably doesn't matter, but for posterity: *there's no distinction (in the video) between if it's the first followed link or no follow."

Hi Sebastion,
Interesting question. Testing has shown that Google counts the anchor text of the first followed link. Unless the first link is an image, then Google counts both anchor texts.
We haven't tested this in awhile, but I assume it still holds true today.
In this case, because the first link is nofollowed, Google neither passes PageRank or anchor text through it, and does not follow it. They should, however, count the second link.
Also, the first link isn't a text link, but a link across a class that contains an icon. While not quite an image link, it's possible it might work the same as one. (but because it's nofollowed it doesn't matter in this case)
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

That is interesting - perhaps just a coding issue as the other links are all nofollow.
The link should still pass juice - Google counts the anchor text of the first occurrence of a particular link on a page (often called "first link priority") but as far as we know ignores the anchor text of repeated links - so that's probably what you're referring to. Subsequent followed links will still pass juice.
My moz profile link does show in my Google WMT account.

Interesting point. I get traffic from my site link in my Moz profile, but at the same time a link to my root domain does not show up in GWT.

Hey Sebastian,
i just went back and checked the moz academy "how links are valued" video. It says the second link is not as valuable as the first, but doesn't say it "does not count at all." Also, there's no distinction between if it's the first followed link or no follow. Granted, this doesn't completely answer your question, but regardless, you should still get some value from the link even if it's second.

Outbound links
Hi everyone, Just a quick question about using info/statistics from other sources in my articles. If I use a quote/piece of info from another online article do I just say where it's from and link to it? Is this acceptable or do you have to get permission? I find the whole permissions thing quite confusing! I know that outbound links are good for SEO so just wanted to check this. Thanks!

How much weight does domain age really carry?
One of my clients competitors launched a new site in January 2014 (totally new site on a domain that had previously never been used). The competitor has very few backlinks (only double digits), most of which are directory links (dofollow and nofollow). Their authority level is good but not as high as others who rank on top pages with them and their on-page optimization is lacking in a few areas. For all intents and purposes, the site should not be ranking where it is from what I can see. However, it is literally skyrocketing up the ranks faster than I would have ever imagined. The only thing I found that this domain has going for it is age (roughly 4 years). Does this carry more weight than I think it does? When compared to my clients site, we have more backlinks (similar mix), higher DA and PA and better on-page optimization for the same keywords. However, our domain age is only a little over 1 year.

Need suggestion: Should the user profile link be disallowed in robots.txt
I maintain a myBB based forum here. The user profile links look something like this http://www.learnqtp.com/forums/User-Ankur Now in my GWT, I can see many 404 errors for user profile links. This is primarily because we have tight control over spam and auto-profiles generated by bots. Either our moderators or our spam control software delete such spammy member profiles on a periodic basis but by then Google indexes those profiles. I am wondering, would it be a good idea to disallow User profiles links using robots.txt? Something like Disallow: /forums/User-*

Too many broken links which i am unable to understand
Dear All, There are some links which are cropping up again and again in my google webmaster tools. I am using wordpress and genesis theme. Both are upgraded to the latest version. But there are 3 types of errors being created as mentioned below. tag/target-markets/%E2%80%9Dhttp:/www.wordpress.org%E2%80%9D tag/smartphone-apps/%E2%80%9Dhttp:/%E2%80%9Dhttp:/www.marketing91.com%E2%80%9D how-to-maintain-customer-interest/%3C?php%20the_permalink()%20?%3E As you can see, either wordpress.orf or marketing91.com or php%20 the _permalink is being added at the end of URLs and they are breaking. This cannot be seen in google index. But this indicates wrong coding and due to it my traffic is regularly dropping. Can you tell me what is causing the break in URL like above. My website is http://www.marketing91.com Thanks in advance. This has being going on for 2 months 🙂 Hope someone comes out with the right answer.

Too Many on page links! Will "NoFollow" for navigation help?
I am getting to many on page links ( for all my pages). Here is my website: http://www.websterpowerproducts.co.uk I think it is to do with the the navigation bar down the right hand side. I don't really want to get ride of this as it offers users a way of getting where they want without lots of clicking. I was wondering if adding a "NoFollow" tag to each of they links would stop the link juice getting diluted by the navigation bar. Many Thanks

I have 2 canonical links. Must get rid of one?
On my wordpress blog, i have 2 canonical links for every single post, like this: One is generated by wordpress theme: rel='canonical' href='http://site.com/article-title/' /> The other one is generated by AllinOne seo pack: <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">http://site.com/article-title/</a>" /> I tried to remove one of them, but if i uncheck from AllinOne, the source code is the same. Also, on-page analysis from SeoMoz tells me that i need only one canonical link. I don't have errors in Google Webmater Tools. What should I do?

Nofollow on these internal links?
On an x-cart ecommerce website we have, seomoz has picked up a lot of duplicate content, based on URLs that are different, but are essentially the same page. These come from Fitlers, that allow a page to show only certain colours and styles, reordering page by price etc, and also the page 2, page 3 etc of a category: All the below are '4ft-bedding.html' http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?filter=1&value=Pink http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?page=2 http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?sort=price&view_all=Y I've now changed all these internal links to rel="nofollow" on the a tag. Is that the correct and best way to sort? I might be mistaken on when I did this update and when the last report was ran, but on the SEOmoz crawling report, it still has the above as problem pages. thanks!
