Site operator result anomaly
-
"Site:" search for site:http://www.mycity4kids.com/Bangalore/activity-based-approach is showing 76 results.I am using SERPS Redux to collect all the indexed pages, but when I re-checked indexed status of these pages using "site operator" google showed that these pages are not indexed.
What is the possible explanation for this?
Thanks

Hi Prashant,
I find that some of these are indexed whilst other are not. An example of a URL listed in the initial site search that won't appear for a site: search of its own is here.
I agree with Michael that your "not found" pages may be part of the problem, even though they are not returning 404s. They should be returning 404s, or at least more information about why the query "activity based classes" near the location returns no results, and what else people can look for / search for within your site instead.
The characters may also be causing a problem with Google not recognising the site: search as being the same as the given URL.

I'm not sure why this is happening, but I did notice two things:
#1 many of the 76 pages are "sorry nothing found" pages, that probably ought to be returning 404s
#2 you've got illegal characters in your URLs, which might mess up crawlers etc.:
Here it's showing as %3C when I paste it but it's a < sign in the address bar. It might seem to be working OK, but I'd guess you're on thin ice with this.

Which Algorithm Change Hurt the Site? A causation/correlation issue
The attached graph is from google analytics, a correlation of about 14 months of Organic Google visits with algo changes, data from moz naturally 🙂 Is there any way to tell from this which will have affected the site? for example #1 or #2 seems to be responsible for the first dip, but #4 seems to fix it and it broke around 6, or is the rise between 4 and 7 an anomaly and actually 1 or 2 caused a slip from when it was released all the way to when 7 was released. Sorry if the graph is a little cloak and dagger, that is partly because we don't have permissions to reveal much about the identity, and partly because we were trying to do a kind of double blind, separating the data from our biases 🙂 We can say though the different between the level at the start and end of the graph is at least 10,000 visits per day JarMzoK.png

Hi, Does anyone know if the Axis plugin by Yahoo will generate the infamous "not provided" results in reporting? Or is it dependent on what browser the plugin is used on? Thank you Bonnie

Setting Up Google Analytic with Sub Folder Sites
What is the best way of setting up Google Analytic for a website that has many sub folders? The main site is example.com and it has 40 sub folder sites like example.com/uk example.com/France etc etc Would it be advised to track a single domain in Google Analytic then create filters for the sub folder sites. Filters > Include traffic from > Sub directories Also with this method is it possible to view overall incoming website stats for everything? Previous experience would be great with this thanks 🙂

We recently developed a new site for a client and they have opted to move forward with a domain change. Should we create a new Google Analytics account for the new site?

Yahoo Site explorer: Different results for www & non-www domain. Can we merge these?
When checking our domain on yahoo site explorer, different results are shown for www.theprintspace.de and theprintspace.de. We have done a 301 redirect, as we want to optimise our www.theprintspace.de domain. However, we have a lot more backlinks for theprintspace.de. Is there any way of merging the two, so we don't loose all the linkjuice we get for theprintspace.de and use those links to optimise www.theprintspace.de? Thanks for your help!

Setting up Goals in Google Analytics that involve a 3rd party site
I've set up several goals for one of my clients in Google Analytics. The ones that relate to things on the site -- such as clicking on the "Contact Us" button -- work just fine. However, I set up one that is tracking when someone clicks on a purchase button, which sends the user to a third party site (PayPal). This one doesn't seem to work. (I purchased and item and the goal was not recorded). Looking to see if I have to do anything different when setting up the goal.
