One Company, Two Brands with Two Blogs, but One WP Panel for Blog?
-
I work with a company that has 2 brands. Both brands have separate sites (currently on a WP multisite install). We want each brand to have its own blog, but for ease of content creation have ONE wp install to create the blog content and depending on what category is clicked (Brand 1 and/or Brand 2), it will publish to that sites blog.
2 questions:
1. Is one WP install for blog syndication for 2 separate sites advisable (as client is requesting)? Or should we just bite the bullet and have each site have it's separate posting through it's own WP install?
2. Sometimes one blog post will be published to BOTH blogs (i.e. category Brand 1 and Brand 2 clicked OR if we use two separate wp installs for each site, publish to both blogs). Is using a rel=canonical for the original post (we need to decide which brand takes precedence) sufficient to overcome duplicate content problem?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Stephan,
I agree with Scott that this is possible but question how much more trouble it would be to run two installations for the two blogs?
The canonical tag will take care of the duplicate content. I don't see much wrong with duplicating using this approach if the duplicated full article is better for users on the non-canonical site, or using the snippet + link approach if that's fine for usability / reader interest.

You can use one log-in for multiple WP dashboards, but running two blogs out of one dashboard... Dicey. Even if you can find a plugin to do it just seems like you are setting yourself up for trouble.
And as for running the copy in both places, that seems dicey, too. You can do it with rel=canonical, but then how much is it really going to help. Personally I'd just do the blog in one place and then do a small summary of it on the second blog and link over to it so readers can follow that if they are interested.

Does blogging with a wysiwyg negatively affect SEO (vs. hand coding)?
Many bloggers use a wysiwyg editor to write posts. Are there any drawbacks to wysiwyg vs plain text? When I write blogs I prefer to hand code my text to be sure everything is optimized. My feeling is that wysiwyg leads to code bloat and generally fewer optimization opportunities. I have no real evidence. Is there any reason not to use the wysiwyg editor?

Should I hide the blog post pages that are automatically built in WordPress?
The pages that are automatically created through WordPress (ex: blog post page 5) are popping up as pages that don't have titles or descriptions. Should I use a branded title and description on those pages or hide them from the search engines? Since it's pulling blog posts to create the pages, keywords are all over the place as well. What's the best course of action? Ex: http://www.blackdogeducation.com/blog/page/2/

Corporate Re-Branding, How to best lead into new website?
I have a company that is going to be moving away from a name they have had for 40 years, into a name they have had for the past 10. They are becoming a bigger brand in Canada and want to move away from the west coast name. http://www.wcmachinery.net/ is becoming obsolete. http://shearforce.ca/ will be taking over for both sites. Both of the websites are identically built by a previous web company. The current root domain metrics are shown in the image provided. What do you Mozzers feel would be the best way to phase out the old site without losing the little bit of domain authority wcmachinery.net has gained? west coast machinery is also well know to its customers, so getting the branded search traffic to the shearforce site is also a priority. I am fairly certain this can be handled easily in the about page where it explains the relationship between the two companies. As a side note I have not performed any SEO work on either site as of yet. So please do not judge me based on this site! Thanks for your insights, Randy edit edit

Should I use this Facebook comment content on my related blog post?
I have a blog post that ranks pretty high for the term "justin bieber tickets". We are running a ticket giveaway and have received tons of responses on Facebook and G+. The responses are often poorly written in they sense that they are from younger fans, but it is a bunch of related content that I thought could be a "good "addition of unique content to the post. Is this a good idea in general? Is it still a good idea if the comments are poorly written and contain lots of slang an exclamation points? Is it bad form to put people's Facebook comments live on the web, even though it is a public page. Here is the post Example of what this would look like in the post >http://cl.ly/1Q3N0t091V0w3m2r442G Source of comments >http://www.facebook.com/SeatGeek Another less aggressive option would be to curate some of my favorite comments... Thanks for any thoughts.
