How is it possible to create unique content (never blogged or discussed before) content on common topics? Is it practically possible?

It is a common advise by all seo experts to write unique and useful content in the articles or blog posts. How is it possible to find unique topics when thousands of small business owners blog on similar business?
Is it really possible? Any advise on this.

If you use your own style/company personality and address your individual market then you can boost engagement. You can also try vlogging (video blogging) or even podcasts (audio). Hope this helps

What questions do your customers or potential leads have? Answer these questions. They're obviously not already finding the content, and it's content that they want.

Lesley is absolutely correct. Writing a unique copy or even thousands of unique variations of a single article is very much possible. The best examples are article directories that contain thousands if not lakhs of unique articles on a same topic. Writing unique copy does not always mean to re-invent the wheel but can also be rewriting it while retaining the meaning or essence of the article, including some phrases or sentences unique to the author's writing style or something of that sort.
The key here is to make your copy different from millions of others that are already written and in the search engines' indices. It is also highly important to come up with such a variation that really adds value to your website and the Internet on the whole. Your web copy should justify its presence in the search engines by providing real value to the visitors. If you can do this, chances of your copy out-ranking the competition become high (of course can depend on ton of other ranking factors) as such content will be a natural link magnet and within no time, it would gain lot of SEO goodies.
Being a very strong advocate of unique and quality content my self, I give clear instructions to my content team while pointing them to few sample articles that are already there on the Internet.

It is totally possible with just about every topic. Write interesting articles that people want to read, it does not matter if someone else has written an article on it, make it your own article. Put your own spin on it. It is kind of like vampire stories, people keep writing them with new spins on them.
It really does not matter if the topic has been covered before, what you are wanting is original content. Don't copy other articles, get ideas from them, but use your own wording. I am sure there are thousands of articles about places to visit in Seattle, but maybe your article has places mixed together that are not found in just one other article.
Sometimes it can be difficult, but every topic can be written about, you just have to find a focus of what you are wanting to write about.

How to go about SEO when the content on all the pages is in a regional language (with its own script which is non-roman) but majority of searches are in the same language but roman script?
For example, the entire content is in an Indian language called Gujarati and the script is also Gujarati. Location based landing pages best practices
Hello, I am looking for the communities thoughts on location-based landing pages. That is, writing out dozens, sometimes hundreds of landing pages in the format of domain.com/[keyword]-[location] and recycling the same content over and over to localize organic search engine results. i have done it with multiple websites and seen tremendous success, however, i am considering getting rid of these pages and having all of the spammy location based pages 301 redirect to my main page domain.com/[keyword] I am considering this because the above practice seems to be a bit black-hat / spammy and those pages do not offer any unique or valuable content. While i have seen great results from this practice, i feel like Google will eventually penalize this or may already be penalizing me without me knowing it. At the same time, i am hesitant to because these pages are ranking. i.e. domain.com/[keyword-houston] is ranking but domain.com/[keyword] is not ranking Thoughts?

Category pages are treated as duplicate content - is that a problem?
Hi there I have analyzing a webshop where we sell products for pets, gardening and the like. I am getting a lot of "Duplicate Content" alerts from Moz when doing a site crawl and I am told that the pages for e.g. cat products and gardening tools show duplicate content. Those two pages contain no identical products, so I am guessing that it is just the "set up" of the page (they look almost identical, except for the products). My question is: Is this really a problem? Does it affect my ranking in a negative way, and if so, how can I counter it? Best regards Frederik

Community Discussion: Are You Practicing Awareness Of Your Own Marketing Questions?
Good Afternoon Moz Friends! This week, one of my favorite bloggers in the Local SEO industry wrote a post to celebrate his 5 year blogging anniversary. Phil Rozek has brought an incredible level of knowledge to the industry and one of the things I've most admired about his writing is the consistency with which he tackles common, important problems everyone involved is facing. The tip from Phil's anniversary post that I'd like to discuss with you all this this one, about practicing awareness of the obstacles you encounter in your daily work, for the purpose of investigation and possible public sharing of the solutions you discover: "Jot down every idea you have, every question you ask yourself that stumps you, and every question someone asks you that stumps you. Those are yourraw materials. You probably won’t write on all of them, but you’ll want the ability to cherry-pick." As a Moz staffer and a marketer, I can testify to the fact that my brain exists in a whirl of possibilities, questions and a never-ending search for relevant solutions. Never a day goes by in which I don't say to myself, at least once,"I wonder why that's like that? Why doesn't this work? How do I do that? What is that? Why don't I get that?" or something similar about a new product, new technology, Google issue, customer issue, industry issue or what have you. What I've learned is that if I have a question about something that I can't instantly resolve, chances are, I'm not the only one who has that question. If you're a blogger, a copywriter, an email marketer, a social marketer, if you can solve a common problem, you have just discovered something to share. _But,_if you're not practicing mindfulness, little questions that arise in the course of an 8 hour day can come and go. They can simply get lost. This is why I value Phil's common sense suggestion of jotting each mental query down as it arises. A spreadsheet seems like a great idea for this task. Just think of how many talking/sharing points you could accumulate in a month ... and how that could translate into blog posts, newsletters, tweets, etc. Now, I'd like to ask if you've come up with a method for capturing your own thought process when questions arise so that you don't lose track of what might be some of your best queries and ideas. Content Rewriting and Page ranking
Lets say that a prior writer did a horrible job with more then a few pages on your site and you wanted to rewrite the content for each landing page. A few of these landing pages are actually ranking pretty decently would it be ok to rewrite them as long as you kept the keywords and the density some what equal?

Francise Space: How to handle Duplicate Content?
We have a client - http://www.certapro.com/ with 330+ individual franchises. The individual franchisees all share the same content. If you perform a series of search by zipcode, you'll see the different regions all share the same copy blocks. How would you handle this situation? New content for all 330+? Canonicalize them to a single source? Keep in mind we need to scale and would have to work with the local partners who may not be web savvy. Also thinking about iframing the same content as an alternative.

Duplicate site content and setting up country specific domains
We look after a website which was originally just hosted on mysite.co.uk. We expanded to the European markets creating mysite.de and mysite.fr getting each product and page translated properly into German and French respectively. We have really good success on google.de and google.fr for these sites. We want to do the same with google.ie and create mysite.ie for the Irish market but as they speak English there will be no translation required. The only thing we will change is the base currency from GBP to EUR. From a duplication point of view will this be bad for both businesses mysite.co.uk and mysite.ie or will the .ie site be seen as the 'copier' and the .co.uk as the authority? Has anyone got any advice over best practice here and what would be the best thing for us to consider? We absolutely cannot risk the .co.uk site ranking wise. It's unrealistic for us to rewrite each product description and page so it means the same thing but is worded differently to avoid the duplication issue.
