Looking into the future! Changing SEO for the trends.

Hi Mozzers,
How is it going?
I run a website called Orange Octopus that offers videogame tips from the best pro gamers in the world. We get plenty of long tail traffic but the keyword that is most important to the business is "FIFA 14 tips".
Using Moz as a template, I tried to model my site's category pages after Moz. (http://moz.com/ugc/category/link-building) and OrangeOctop.us (orangeoctop.us/fifa14-tips/)
With the new FIFA 15 videogame a few months away from being released, I wanted to start preparing for the keyword "FIFA 15 tips" and "FIFA 15 guide". Being proactive and aggressive with rankings for when the game first comes out.
Would you recommend starting a new category? Or changing FIFA 14 tips to FIFA 15 tips by just changing the url and title of the category page?
Really need some expert help.
Play hard!
Joey

This is excellent advice. Thanks for your input, ForForce!

Definitely as ForForce has suggested - don't let that "one star" under his avatar pic fool you. He knows of what he speaks in this matter.

I would create new pages.
Here are the reasons to keep the old pages:
- You probably have incoming links to these pages.
- You probably have good content on your pages... It should stay there. I'm guessing there will be at least some changes to the page content depending on the year of the game the user is looking for info on.
- Changing the links you would in essence be trying to 'trick' Google. In this particular case, I don't see much of a chance of Google figuring it out, but in general changes should be made to improve the user experience, not to gain an SEO advantage. If for some reason google did figure it out, then you might end up with a penalty.
That being said, you can take some advantage of the old, well ranking pages by putting a big box on the top of the old page: "You are currently viewing FIFA 14 tips. Please also see our updated tips for FIFA 15. (the words 'FIFA 15' here should be a link).
Another option that I would not recommend is to use canonical tags to point the old content to the new content. Why this might give a slight boost to searches for 'FIFA 15' tips, but it has a good chance of getting your 'FIFA 14' pages completely delisted (since google may take your word that one page is indeed a complete copy of the other). In addition, you would again here trying to 'trick' google, which they probably won't take to kindly to if they figure it out.

How good or bad is this for SEO?
I will try to make this as clear as possible. We represent the yellow pages - www.visalietuva.lt

For every single company that is listed we have Creditworthiness - that helps to find information about their payment history and their business status. It's pretty useful. An example could be found here: http://www.visalietuva.lt/en/company/dizrega-uab/creditworthiness Some companies that are proud of their result started putting Iframe on their pages:
http://dizrega.lt/lt/kontaktai/firmos-rodikliai We noticed this on Google Webmasters, when new links started to appear.
So we are not sure if this is good for SEO? Of course this is good for our Google Analytics:))
If this is good, maybe we should send offer for our clients, that we can help to put iframe like this for free, for people who are not able to do it themselves. Your opinions please!0 -
Video SEO for Google
I was wondering what the prime factors were to make something rank for a video on Google. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think that length may be important, but I don't know what the ideal run time is. Hypothetically for local SEO, would I be better off doing a tag like "Mercedes Buffalo NY" or do individual tags of "Mercedes" and "Buffalo" Thanks!

Best place to submit an SEO RFP? Anyone interested in 60 hours of SEO work?
I have a small SEO project (~ 60 hours of work) that I would like to get some help with. It is spread out over the span of 4 to 6 months (2 to 3 hours of work a week with the help of 10 - 15 support staff hours per week), and if it goes well there is an opportunity to extend the project through the rest of 2014. Does anyone here want to see the RFP or have any recommendations on where I can submit this request to get the maximum exposure? Thanks!

What Does Penguin Recover Look Like?
Is a recovery from Penguin immediate once Google recognized that you've fixed the problem or is it a slow and steady recovery? I think we may have fixed our issue which is why we're seeing an immediate spike in traffic from Google organic search results. Our daily traffic was up more than 100% in a single day. Is this a recovery? At which speed have other sites you manage recovered? EoZJDZ2.png

Anyone Experimented With YouTube SEO?
Primarily questions I want to know definitive answers to: Do incoming links to a YouTube video affect Google's decision to show a YouTube video thumbnail in the results? If so, does YouTube rank the video higher due to incoming links? Does YouTube take any off-page factors into consideration when ranking a video? Does anyone else have any other helpful tips/thoughts/suggestions? Please don't answer this just to get points and give me fluff information. I'd really like to get some concrete data/info 🙂 Cheers!
