Pre-launch market/industry research
-
I am getting ready to start a web based marketing firm, with a strong focus on local search and b2b organic search engine optimization. However, I want to pick a specific b2b market to focus on when the site goes live.
How do I go about conducting this market research when i do not have any visitors to my site yet. My goal is to spot a market/industry that has a gap where my service will be in demand? All of the popular guides and blogs focus on market research that takes place after you launch your website or after you already have an audience to analyze.
Any advice or suggestions on conducting market/industry research without having a audience yet would be greatly appreciated!

look at other websites that have achieved this goal that you wish to do.
you are going to start marketing agency and you want to know how to do the keyword research.
Alexa.com compete.com they both feature information on sites other than your own. You can Google similar sites as well.
A excellent example of a local SEO site that has succeeded would be whitespark.ca
for B2B organic search look at any HubSpot partner http://www.impactbnd.com/ or http://www.kunocreative.com/
everyone these companies are doing well and I list them just so you can try and learn from what they have achieved.
Case studies on B2B organic agencies are plentiful at http://www.hubspot.com/partners
I hope this helps,
Thomas

How to start or create a blogging community for my industry?
Hi Guys, I have just established my new site, and I'm wondering if anyone might know how to go about establishing a blogging community for my industry on my site? I'm trying to establish one by asking other bloggers if they would be willing to contribute but Im left asking myself, well "what is the benefits" of a contributor participating in a newly established blog that perhaps doesn't have any exposure at this point in time? The idea would be to grow it. But my industry lacks this and the quality of information. Any ideas or tips on how to go about establishing something around this? All advice, tips would be appreciated! Thanks

Best Educational track for internet marketing
My son has a degree in Marine Bio. Has developed a keen interest in SEO and internet marketing. He wants to make a career change. He does not want to go back for a 4 year degree in computer science. Are there graduate programs/degrees that will admit someone with a biological science degree? He wants to have a career in Internet marketing.

Google Analytics Tracking Miscount - Originating Around 5/24
Is anyone else experiencing an issue where it seems GA failed to track many of their visitors? This is why I think it's something on GA's end and not mine (and not natural): 1. No changes were made, site wasn't down, tracking code is correct and is "receiving data" 2. Referral, Direct and Organic traffic all dropped at about the same decline over the same period *3. Pinterest Analytics shows me being sent over 10 times more traffic every day than GA shows me actually receiving. In the screenshot, Pinterest shows 584 uniques while GA shows 43 for Sunday. I figure if something was broken, I wouldn't be showing ANY traffic and if it was natural, it wouldn't have happened on the same decline across all traffic mediums and Pinterest Analytics wouldn't be so far off. I saw a few people mentioning similar things on Google's forums and wanted to ask you guys if anyone noticed any issues? y8XAvwz.png pRsRAmK.png

Any research on a baseline traffic loss due to SERP crowding?
Hello all. I work with a number of ecommerce sites and in trying to gauge year over year performance I'm struggling to properly account for some of the organic shrinkage in SERPs. Many people have discussed the topic of SERPs with 6 & 7 results and the growing real estate being taken up by paid results. What I want to know is if anyone out there has done some large scale number crunching to find some averages on lowered CTR or traffic loss so I can better understand my numbers. Anyone have any input here?

Help! I need to hire a SEO / SEM Specialist - Am I asking for too much?!
Hey all! I'm expanding my in-house marketing team and I need to add an SEO / SEM Specialist that will strategize, execute & manage the following: Organic SEO PPC across multiple channels (Google, Bing & also social sites like Facebook) Remarketing & Display marketing Banner ads Retargeting We're a lean company that's all about doing more with less. But not being very familiar with the SEO / SEM world I'm afraid I'm asking for too much! What do you guys think? What's your experience been? If you do think that this is potentially a single position, what would be the best title for attracting talent? SEO / SEM Specialist? Digital Marketing Manager? With the research I've done - jobs / titles have been totally across the board! I'm not able to find much consistency. Thank you all for your help 🙂 It's greatly appreciated!!!!!

Schedule for Panda / Farmer Update rollout for non English sites?
Hey Mozzers, I just read about the global rollout of googles Panda/Farmer Update for English queries, e.g. at searchengineland. Has anyone read something about when google is planning to roll out the update for non-English speaking countries, i.e. queries in other languages? I googled a bit but couldn't find anything, not even speculations. Cheers, Frank
