Google Display Network had 3000 new placements in May

Hi all,
I'm running through traffic figures from May as there was a huge spike.
This is down to a spike in Adwords, specifically the Display Network.
- In May 2014, there is a total of 4337 placements.
- In April 2014, there is a total of 1561 placements.
With nearly 3000 new placements where the ad could be shown, would anybody be able to explain as to how and why this has happened?
I've run through the change history, and nothing i've done explains the extra placements. Auto add placements was on, but has been on for 12 months with no more than 50 extra per month. The only change that has been done that may link is I've added a mobile phone extension on ads displayed on mobile devices?
The significant extra cost has been of no benefit to the campaign, as the advert displayed on various apps, forums and irrelevant websites.Would be great if anybody could shed some light here! Thank You

If you added in mobile advertising then that could have definitely given it an uplift, but making changes sometimes inspires a new assortment of changes. How are you doing so far this month? Are you seeing the same issues? Have you dropped your CPM & Daily budget?

Absolutely the same. It has cost in excess of £2000, with no benefit to the company.
I've been through the change log, only differences to targeting options made, was to actually take out some of the display network websites.

- Mobile Modifier
- Daily Budget
- Shared Budget
And you made no changes to the campaign targeting options?

How to Tell Google About My Near Duplicate Pages?
For my Adwords campaign, I create a separate landing page for each Ad Group, but are similar enough to one another that they may be considered duplicate content. Should I use a canonical tag on the page to tell Google which page is priority? I don't care about any of those pages ranking in search, I'm just using them for my ads. I also don't want to redirect, clearly. Is the canonical tag the correct way to go?

Impressions data: Google Webmaster Tools VS Google AdWords
Dear community, I was doing some research within Google Webmaster Tools (WMT) keyword data when I noticed that the impressions within this tool are quite different compared to the keyword impression data provided by Google AdWords (ADW). Some specs about the situation: Date: December 2014 (31 days). Keyword: brand + main keyword* (e.g. amazon shoes, if Amazon would have been the client) Visitors come from: the Netherlands (>97%). Search volume: 3,8 K for this branded keyword last year (December 2013), of which >99% came from the Netherlands (source: Google Keyword Planner). Search query data: "impressions" for Google WMT (organic keyword impressions) and “impressions” for Google ADW (paid keyword impressions). Of course the ADW keyword is [exact]. So, what's wrong? The data doesn’t match, while I expected approximately the same amount of impressions assuming the keywords are: both [exact] keywords; (check! ✓) within the same period of time; (check! ✓) the Ad is being displayed "all the time" (check! ✓) the domain/page is being indexed "all the time" (check! ✓) How much of a difference is there? Organic impressions: 7,4 K (source: Google WMT) Paid impressions: 2,1 K (source: Google ADW) Note that the search volume according to Google Keyword Planner of last year is somewhere in between: 3,8K. The search volume from this tool of last December is not available just yet (but I don’t expect much difference here since Google Trends shows a steady search volume). If the difference would have been 10-20%, I wouldn't be surprised at all, but this is huge. **What could explain the differences? ** If a lot of people were using AdBlockers (they do, but not nearly as massively (around 10%)). If we would have made mistakes in AdWords: budget, bidding, targeting etc. - This is not the case, got this confirmed by the manager who double-checked the data and settings. Also: since it’s a branded keyword it’s really cheap for us and easy to get high quality scores. If we would have made mistakes regarding indexing/crawling that would have caused an extreme loss in domain visibility in the SERP's: possibly caused by robots.txt, a noindex-tag, server problems etc. This was not the case and Google WebmasterTools says the average position was 1,0 during the complete month. "Something else" went wrong during that specific period of time with this specific domain. I don’t think so because I checked multiple months and multiple other domains of other clients. These gave me the same relative results (okay, some were a bit closer: 30 K paid impressions vs 62 K organic impressions for instance, still a big difference). What other possibilities are left? The impressions from Google WMT and Google ADW are not the same, even though they are called the same and therefore suggest they should be (about) the same. AdWords just randomly fails to display and/or measure some branded ads (even though there is plenty of budget, bidding is fine and QS is 10/10). Definitions of "impressions" for both tools according Google: AdWords definition of "impressions" WebmasterTools definition of "impressions" Hope someone has some more suggestions or useful links! How to view the sources of visitors who bounced off in Google Analytics?
Hi there, we have a website with a more than 60% bounce rate. I'm trying to find out where these visitors (the ones that are bouncing off) are coming from, to what percentage are they coming from the PPC campaign, from organic search results or referrals. I suspect that the keywords from the PPC campaign are not relevant to the website content (and hence visitors are bouncing off). Does anyone know how to check this in Google Analytics? A heads-up about problems with the new Google Adwords Keyword Planner tool
I noticed that when I was using this tool, the data in the tables would change, often by a lot (up to 50%) when I sorted the columns. (Did nothing else, just sorted.) Since I was starting a new campaign and really needed data, I contacted Google about this and was told: "I understand that the estimates are changing in the Keyword Planner tool when you sort the data. I reproduced this on my end as well and was able to confirm that this is a known technical issue on our end." "Unfortunately the information in the Keyword Planner Tool is currently not the best source of data for your analysis." They then went on to suggest I just test things blindly. So, what do you do to get information about keyword traffic and ppc estimates?

How Can I Target Certain Countries in Google AdWords without Excluding Other Countries?
So, here is the situation: Our company works with merchants worldwide (with the exception of those who live in excluded high-risk countries--mostly in Africa), but most of our Google AdWords leads come from Indian merchants. My CEO wants our campaigns to convert leads from other countries (i.e., the UK, Germany, US, Canada, Australia, etc.), but I have no idea how to do that without excluding India. However, my CEO does not want to exclude India from our AdWords campaigns as the leads are profitable. We simply want more diversity with out leads in terms of geographic location. I am sure there are resources on the Web about how to do this, but I am not an Adwords expert and am unsure of what phrases to search to find the answers. A question for Google Adwords experts
Hi Google Adwords experts, We own the trademarks to some keywords. When you search for these keywords, only our ads will ever appear but they don't appear every time a search is made. They're hardly ever appearing now that we've dropped our bid from $1+ to the minimum first page bid (1 cent in some cases). My question is; are the ads showing less because our bid has dropped so low? If so, why is this? If we own the trademark to the keyword and no one else can display ads, any bid that we submit should be accepted by Google, shouldn't it? If you can include a link to any articles that will give me more info, i'll vote for your answer. Thanks!
