Page missing meta description some times a good thing?

Just courious to why http://moz.com/learn/seo does not appear to have the meta tag:
name="description" content="">
Is this purposely done this way for some reason? Or has it become less important?

I generally leave all meta descriptions blank. Once a month I pull down our webmaster tools ranking and clickthru data, and figure out what the average clickthru is on our keywords. When a keyword is under performing on clickthrus, I will go to the ranking page, and make adjustments to the meta information.

With meta descriptions, if often dealer's choice. If you don't provide a meta description, Google's search snippet will pull the relevant text from your page that matches the user's query, which sometimes may help click-through rate.
On the other hand, a well crafted meta description can also help attract the right kind of clicks.
In this case, however, I fear it was just plain oversight. We update this page a lot, and I believe the meta description simply got lost in one of the many development cycles. So thanks for the heads up!

Yes, Google recommends to leave the meta-descriptions empty rather than have non-unique meta-descriptions.

Hi All I've picked up a new website project and wanted to ask about the best way to proceed with the current site during the development process. The current site is incomplete although it has been live for a while and has over 80 pages in the sitemap. Link to site https://tinyurl.com/ychwftup The business owner wants to take down the current site and simply add a landing page stating "new website coming soon". From an SEO perspective, am I better to keep the current site live until the new site is ready? Heres a puzzle for you... Htags on left hand nav for ecomm category pages
Hi Guys, So I am back asking more questions, but I am slowly learning 🙂 This next one, I have looked everywhere and I can't get my head around h tags on ecomm sites. I have looked at competitors and non competitors and still am not sure which is the right or wrong thing to do, specifically in this instance, category pages. Our I.T. dept is somewhat under resourced and I don't want to waste their time with test and trial on this particular issue. Category landing pages... There are shed loads of category listing pages on our site, at the moment the h1 tag for each sub-category is listed in the end path of the breadcrumb, there is no other spaces on the page accept the left hand navigation. Which is the better to use, breadcrumb or nav? We would have to totally recode our left hand nav which is pretty set up for the whole site. The reason I ask this question to you is because an SEO agency recommended that we... Add the H1 to the left hand navigation and make it customisable so that it is not the same as the breadcrumb keywords. I have attached an image of a competitor of ours that so the same thing currently, to show what I mean... Right now I am not sure what to tell the agency and what the right thing to do is. I read a post saying that we are actually doing the right thing under the circumstances. Does anyone have a best practise good example of generally what we should do for category pages? Free websites that are good with SEO?
Dear members, I am looking for a free/ almost free website which is good for SEO. For example i am looking at WIX right now but i keeping reading that they aren't optimal for SEO. Does anybody has some tips which website is can use, example weebly, strato, etc?? Many thanks!

3 Ecommerce Stores All Under One Roof - Good idea? SEO Benefits? Concerns?
I run multiple ecommerce stores in one particular market. I've been considering merging them all together and using a Single sign-on and allowing users to swap between websites. Each site is unique in their own way and are already ranking well on their own. But the goal is to merge them altogether to create a better user-flow. An example of what I'm trying to do is what Zurb.com does (http://zurb.com/apps). They have all of their different products but they're under different domains. Another example is http://www.envato.com/sites and all of their brands to their sites. Will this negatively impact SEO efforts across the board or will we eventually benefit from merging them. Also, is there a correct way to do this. For example; Should I make one site the "parent website" and then create sub-directories of the other websites and work on the DNS to point to the right locations. I'm not the technical person on our team but I do lead the marketing and I can't find the right answer for this question.

Multiple Local Schemas Per Page
I am working on a mid size restaurant groups site. The new site (in development) has a drop down of each of the locations. When you hover over a location in the drop down it shows the businesses info (NAP). Each of the location in the Nav list are using schema.org markup. I think this would be confusing for search robots. Every page has 15 address schemas and individual restaurants pages NAP is at the below all the locations' schema/NAP in the DOM. Have any of you dealt with multiple schemas per page or similar structure?

Website spread over two domains - The Good,The Bad and the Ugly ?
Hi, I am wondering if the way I have set up our website site is creating more harm than good ? All our SEO efforts and content is located @ www.sparrowmakeup.com.au however our portfolio is located at www.make-up-artists.com.au. Questions ? Will Analytic bounce rates effect my SERP, as most people click on the portfolio link in the first 5-15 sec of landing on our page ?? Is there a better way of setting it up ? the reason I set it up like this in the first place was because we wanted a different look/theme for the portfolio. (using WP) Is there any other issues that this setup might have in the SEO / SERP department ?? Is there any benefits and how can I maximize on them (silver lining) Your help and experience is greatly appreciated. Regards Ed

Joomla ( title page override not working properly ) any techy guys out there
Hey Mozzers I am having some problems with joomla. I have tried many support forums and since everyone is in the same field as me, i thought this would be a great place to ask this question. I am working with joomla 2.5 and After i have turn on my search engine friendly configuration, you can override the ( alias ) of the page by providing page display options for title tag. so i turned on the SEF in global config and turn on the mod-rewrite and made sure my htaccess file was not txt. But i am having some problems with this.

On some pages the page display option for the _browser page title _works and on some it does. On the pages it doesnt it is pulling the information of the Alias. ( which is common with most site )

Site-wide footer links or single "website credits" page?
I see that you have already answered this question before back in 2007 (http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/2163), but wanted to ask your current opinion on the same question: Should I add a site-wide footer link to my client websites pointing to my website, or should I create a "website credits" page on my clients site, add this to the footer and then link from within this page out to my website?
