What's up with the #! in twitter & Facebook URL's?

I was just wondering why Facebook and now Twitter have added "#!" into the url structure? Does this mean we should link to a twitter profile like this - twitter.com/profile - anymore?
Should we now be linking like this: twitter.com/#!/kevinbarnes

Highland is right, this is for indexing of ajax. I personally leave out the #! when linking, but that decision is based on I'm usually sending the link in email and those characters sometimes break the hyperlink.

The short answer
The character
!is added only for Google purposes, this notation is a Google "standard" for crawling web sites intensive on AJAX (in the extreme Single Page Interface web sites). When Google's crawler finds an URL with#!it knows that an alternative conventional URL exists providing the same page "state" but in this case on load time.

Twitter Account Locked Issue
Hi, Has anyone experienced issues unlocking Twitter accounts that has a mobile phone connected with it that is no longer valid? I have situation where an account is locked and in order to unlock this a code must be sent to the mobile number that was originally used to set this account up but the number in question is now obsolete and not in use. I've made numerous attempts to contact Twitter's customer service but they are almost non-existent and not unresponsive. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can resolve this or know a direct contact email or number for Twitter? Kind Regards

Facebook.com / referral - What is it?
Hi Moz community! Coming to you today to ask a two fold question about a mysterious source/medium combination and also social medium data in general. First question relates to the attached image named 'Facebook Referral.' We've made sure to apply correct tags to all of our campaigns, both organic and paid, and are having a difficult time figuring out where this source/medium comes from which is a bit troubling as it actually has pulled in some revenue over the past couple of months The second question is around general Facebook data. Our Facebook business manager is vastly over reporting clicks to landing pages. For instance, we saw about 1,700 clicks to site as reported by Facebook business manager, whereas Google Analytics only registered about 950. I know data between the two channels rarely lines up perfectly, but this seems like a rather wide variance. Can someone help me to understand this, and let me know if there is anyway to reduce the occurrence of one or both of the issues we're facing. Thanks! referral.PNG

How to customise twitter feed

Do having social sharing icons such as Twitter and Pinterest slow down site speed?
We are debating a redesign of a travel site and wondering whether having social sharing buttons including Pinterest and Facebook above each image would slow down site speed and therefore have a negative impact on our rankings. How to Analyze Twitter Followers
I'm working on an infographic and I need a way to analyse the followers of about 25 to 50 industry twitter accounts to figure what type of people their followers are. twittersheep.com used to do exactly this, look at the profile description area of twitter and produce a tag cloud of a given twitter account's followers based on terms from their profile fields. But they are no longer online. Anyone know of another service that does this ? Or can think of another way to get this data.
