Found a .gov link to my website www.kars4kids.org. The url it links to is
http://www.nyc.gov/cgi-bin/exit.pl?url=http://www.kars4kids.org/
which does eventually redirect to kars4kids. Will search engines see this as a link?

I'd go into www.opensiteexplorer.org and see if you can find this backlink. If you can't, then it probably doesn't count.

I should clarify that the link is on this page
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nycwasteless/html/resources/prod_serv_auto_cars.shtml anchor text cars for kids, which is indexed although it doesn't seem to be cached. #odd
My main question was if this kind of redirect counts as a link.

Don't think so. When I search for inurl:www.nyc.gov/cgi-bin/exit.pl in Google, there aren't any cached results with any content containing a link pointing to your site.

I just tried [site:nyc.gov kars4kids] in Google and nothing showed, so that's not an encouraging sign for you. And now I've had to turn on some music to get your commercial out of my mind.

I don't believe a page level redirect is going to give you any juice, and more so, is this 'link' on a page that is indexed and has links pointing to it?

Yoast's Magento Guide "Nofollowing unnecessary link" is that really a good idea?
I have been following Yoast's Magento guide here: https://yoast.com/articles/magento-seo/ Under section 3.2 it says: Nofollowing unnecessary links Another easy step to increase your Magento SEO is to stop linking to your login, checkout, wishlist, and all other non-content pages. The same goes for your RSS feeds, layered navigation, add to wishlist, add to compare etc. I always thought that nofollowing internal links is a bad idea as it just throwing link juice out the window. Why would Yoast recommend to do this? To me they are suggesting link sculpting via nofollowing but that has not worked since 2009!

What is meant by to many on page links
I have just done the report for my site http://www.in2town.co.uk and it says i have 246 on page links but i am not sure how come i have got that many. I know i have a large number of links and in the old days it says that you should keep the links under 100 but now with website speed and the net, people are saying this is no longer listened to. A report i read said that the links should not confuse the reader or put them off, so i am just wondering what your thoughts are on a site with over a 100 links on the home page and also if my site does have to many links what should i do about it. I cannot understand why it is showing 246 when i do not see that many on the page, any advice would be great

Too Many Page Links
I have 8 niche websites for golf clubs. This was done to carve out tight niches for specific types of clubs then only broadens each club by type - i.e. better player, game improvement, max game improvement. So far, for fairly young sites, <1 year, they are doing fairly well as I build content. Running campaigns has alerted me to one problem - too many on-page links. And because I use Wordpress those links are on each page in the right sidebar and lead to the other sites. Even though visitors arrive via organic search in most cases they tend to eventually exit to one of the other sites or they click on a product (Ebay) and venture off to hopefully make a purchase. Ex: Drivers site will have a picture link for each of the other 7 sites. Question: If I have one stie (like a splash page) used as one link to that page listing all the sites with a brief explanation of each site will this cause visitors to bounce off because they will have one click, than the list and other clicks depending on what other club/site they would like to go to. The links all open in new windows. This would cut down on the number of links per page of each site but will it cause too much work for visitors and cause them to leave?

How to control link flow on a webshop
I am looking for a best practice link structure for a webshop. Say you run a webshop where the front page should rank for 1-2 keywords and then there are 5-10 categories which are more popular and has a higher profit than the remaining 20-50 categories. Will it be wise to let the 20-50 categories link to the 5-10 more profitable categories if possible or should the structure just treat all the categories as equal and hence not let any link juice flow from the less profitable categories up to the more profitable categories. I hope the question is clear enough. Also if you could share any thoughts on how you structure your webshops it would be great. Thanks in advance.

Suppose you were interested in buying a successful blog with lots of powerful links and they offered to sell you the domain but none of the content. Do you have any tips for conserving the link equity when buying the domain? (Note: about half of the inbound links are to the homepage and the plan is to relaunch the site with new content.)

Reciprocal links / seo satellite
Hi guys, I am reasonably new to SEO. We operate a site. Lets call it brand.com. I would like to build up SEO juice and traffic for our site reasonably quickly, but with a view to not harming us in the long term. There are a large number of very small blogs in our space (> 100). Many of them are private blogs. I would like to gain links from these blogs. None of these blogs will send large amounts of traffic to our site on an individual basis, but in sum they provide both decent traffic and SEO juice. Leaving SEO out of mind I would offer them all returning links in exchange for linking to our blog (brand.com/blog) or our main domain (brand.com). They are decent quality sites that may be of interest to our users. They are not competitors and will not take any of our business away. Problem: I want to avoid being punished by Google for link exchange. In an ideal world I would event like to profit from these links from a SEO perspective. I have thought of a work around, but am not sure whether this will work at all. I will create 3 satellite pages: brand-partners.com, brand-tips.com and brand-blog-roll.com. I will feature links to these three sites prominently on my main site and my blog. This will provide these three sites with some SEO juice and trust from bloggers. In return for linking to my site, I will offer the small blogs links from these three "satellite" pages. I will try to diffuse the picture by adding some random links and obtaining some random links that I don't link back to. My approach is to always provide value to our users. Apart from the diffusing bit above I would say that creating these small hubs provides value (as we recommend valuable sites), while still enabling us to have some SEO effect. As I am reasonably new to SEO, I don't know whether the above is already a standard tactic employed or whether it contains some horrible pitfall that I should be aware of. SEO LINKS
New to S.E.O. so excuse my naivety. I have made lots of new links some of them paid for e.g. Best of the Web but I don’t see any change in the latest competitive link analysis. Some of the links we have been accepted for just do not show. Also the keywords we are trying to promote the most have disappeared off the radar for over 2 weeks now.
