Tracking Sales That Result From GA Trackable Leads?
-
I have a client who tracks leads via URL destination goal completions in Google Analytics - when a visitor hits their "quote form" thank you page, a "goal" is completed and thus a lead is tracked in GA. After that, none of the sales process is passed through to GA - The client enters data from form submissions into their CRM software, without any way of knowing which leads came specifically from PPC, email marketing, social, organic, etc., making determining true ROI impossible.
We're wondering what the best way is to pass through the traffic source to our client, so they can attach it to the individual lead in their completely manual CRM. Mainly they care about CPC traffic.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip StreamlineMetrics... Curious though, how are you able to get keyword data, etc. to pass through when Google strips it out. Do we not run the risk of violating some other Google policy?
-
Here are some options for closing the loop between web leads and closed sales -
1. Capture visitor data using the GA cookie and pass it along with each form submission. This is against GA's TOS so do it at your own risk but here is a blog post telling you how to do it - http://cutroni.com/blog/2009/03/18/updated-integrating-google-analytics-with-a-crm/. (The author of this blog post actually works for Google Analytics so it's kinda funny he tells you how to break their TOS...)
2. Use a contact form that automatically tracks conversions for leads, such as Convertable - (full disclosure - I'm a co-founder of Convertable but it solves the issue you are having). You can also try other similar paid services like HubSpot, Salesforce, BestContactForm.com, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply, but after Googling it sounds like they've actually built a feature to allow for what we need, it just works differently than I was describing - data is imported back to GA. https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2998031?hl=en
And then there's also the Measurement Protocol - https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/protocol/v1/

Like Keri said, you probably have to do this complete process outside of the scope of Google Analytics code as otherwise it would make the data personally identifiable and you get into trouble with the Google Analytics terms of use.
What you can do is save the referral URL in a cookie an then send it with the form into your CRM.

First, a caution before you spend too much time on this. Read the terms of use of Google Analytics, and any limitations on collecting personally identifiable information, as it may limit what you can do.

Attributing Lead Source/Medium on Squarespace forms
Hi Mozzers Happy new year! We've recently picked up a client for some PPC and SEO work and their website is built using Squarespace. It's a B2B business, so enquiries don't always get sent straight from a landing page. Often a user hits our desired landing pages then checks out a few other pages before sending an enquiry. The problem we have is with attaching the source/medium of a lead to the enquiry that we receive. For example if Joe Bloggs completes a form, what we'd like to receive is:
Paid Search Marketing | | ZestUK
Name: Joe Bloggs
Email: joe.bloggs@email.com
Phone: 123456
Source: Google
Medium: CPC With the latter as hidden fields. We've tried the hidden field feature built into the form builder, but this only works if the user completes the form on the landing page they arrived on without leaving the page. We've tried to used event tracking but this only gives us accuracy on the number of enquiries from that channel, not who the user was that enquired, so we can't consolidate with our order and revenue report to work out ROI from each activity. Has anybody in the community ever solved this issue on Squarespace? Thanks

How to track offline conversions
What are the best ways to track offline conversions that have come directly from paid ads such as Adwords? Say for example, John searches for 'luxury armchair' and clicks on one of our ads and is directed to the landing page that sells the luxury armchair. John then calls us and completes the transaction over the phone. How do we know that the advertising channel is responsible for that transaction without physically asking the customer? I know Google provide free forwarding phone numbers which can be provided in the Ads, but if they call us from the phone number we list on the website there is no way of tracking down that exact sale? Google mentions something to do with providing a unique ID, called a "GCLID" but I'm not familiar with this or how it works. Any advice is much appreciated.

Adwords & Analytics Different Product Listing Results
Hi We have recently set up a Product Listings ad campaign via AdWords and have seen some impressive initial figures in our AdWords account. However, when viewing data from the same period in Analytics it shows completely different statistics. For example, from 1st-16th June, AdWords shows 604 clicks and 29 conversions from our Product Listings campaign but Google Analytics only shows 23 clicks and 0 conversions across the same period. Any ideas why these variations show? Is there any additional tracking code that needs to be inserted at all? Thanks

Google Adwords Conversion Tracking - Recording Wrong Page
Hi Guys I have a problem with my Google Adwords conversion tracking. Basically whenever I check to see which page it is recording, it shows me the incorrect one. Now I probably checked a thousand time now and the conversion tracking code is not on this specific page, but is on the one that I really want to track. I have also checked that the code is correct and that there is nothing missing. But strangely enough when I look at historical data, it does show that is was tracking conversions on the correct page, but for some reason the past couple of weeks it's reporting conversions from another page, which is the incorrect one. If somebody could please give me some insight as to what could maybe be the cause of this, I would appreciate it. Thank You Dave

Google Analytics and Adwords Tracking Codes
A site I help someone with in link building was recently redesigned. I do not have access to the site in any way. Well, after the redesign, no conversions were tracking in Adwords and Analytics ecommerce tracking showed no transactions and no amounts. I found the Analytics code and sent it to their programmer. I have linked the Adwords and Analytics accounts. So now conversions are tracked in Adwords and transactions are tracked in Analytics. However, amounts have vanished and not returned. I'm not technically savvy enough to figure this out. How do I get this Analytics code to track transaction amounts so that they appear in Adwords and in Analytics ecommerce tracking?
