VisitSweden indexing error
-
Hi all
Just got a new site up about weekend travel for VisitSweden, the official tourism office of Sweden. Everything went just fine except som issues with indexing.
The site can be found here at weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
For some weird reason the "frontpage" of the site does not get indexed. What I have done myself to find the issue:
- Added sitemaps.xml
- Configured and added site to webmaster tools
- Checked 301s so they are not faulty
By doing a simple site:weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ you can see that the frontpage is simple not in the index. Also by doing a cache:weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ I see that Google tries to index the page without the trailing /no/ for some reason.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
Any smart ideas to get this fixed or where to start looking?
All help greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Fredrik

Oh my God Fred!! the weekend sub-domain has been completely blocked from being crawled using a robots.txt file sitting in the root of the sub-domain.
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/robots.txt
User-agent: * Disallow: / Please remove the '/' from there **immediately**

Hi Fred,
I just copied my first response:
Here is your redirection setup:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
So, I would suggest you to remove the interim URL without the trailing slash after 'no'. Let the original homepage, http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ also be redirected to http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ (the one with trailing slash) via 301.
So your redirection setup should be as follows:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ - via 301 to - http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
Essentially, we are eliminating the redirection loop here. Please try this and post back.
Best regards,

Hi
Again thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately we still have the same issue even though we have performed many checks and tests. Any more smart ideas on how this can be corrected?
Regards
Fredrik

Hi Fred,
Please wait for at least 2 weeks for the change to reflect in Google. This happens and depends on how popular your site is in terms of link profile, DA, PA etc..I still see "http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no" (without trailing slash) in Google's index. Let us wait for sometime. Nothing to worry about it.

Hi again
The weirdest this is that it does not seem to update. When I do a site:weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ the page is still nowhere to be found.
https://www.google.no/?gws_rd=ssl#q=site:weekend.visitsweden.com%2Fno%2F
Any ideas?
Again thanks
Fredrik

Hi Fred, now its perfect. It should soon reflect in Google and you will be able to see it in site: search. Good Luck my friend.
Best regards,

Thanks for the great input! Have now tried to do the changes as per your suggestion.
Does it look better now?
Again thanks

Dear Fred,
Here is your redirection setup:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
So, I would suggest you to remove the interim URL without the trailing slash after 'no'. Let the original homepage, http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ also be redirected to http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ (the one with trailing slash) via 301.
So your redirection setup should be as follows:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ - via 301 to - http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
This should fix the issue. Essentially, we are eliminating the redirection loop here.
By the way, both the URLs, with and without trailing slash appear in Google when searched with the following queries:

Bing not indexing website for some weird quality reason
Hi,I have a strange problem. My website www.dealwithautism.com is just 2 months old and have 40+ high quality articles that are already beginning to see some organic traffic from Google without any off page SEO (link building, etc). By quality articles I mean:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DealWithAutism
1. Each article is 1500+ words of unique and highly relevant content with solid on page SEO (images may be reused from Google images). Moz page grader=A for most pages 2. Pretty well structured (with good number of internal links) 3. Entire site (all pages) delivered over https SSL using 301 redirect 4. No malware or spammy backlinks 5. NAP details and social signals available 6. Already ranking top10 in google SERPs for long tail KWs 7. According to Google Webmasters, no crawl errors except for a few (less than 10) 404s 8. Fully responsive - all pages tagged as "Mobile Friendly" by Google However, since day 1, Bing has not indexed a single page on my website (xml sitemap was updated from day 1) even though they are crawling the site. I recently raised an Email ticket and this was their response: "Upon checking, it appears that your site did not meet the standards set by Bing to get indexed the last time it was crawled. However, we will be looking further into this issue along with the Product Group to review the content of your website for re-evaluation. We currently do not have an ETA for the update but please be assured that we will get back to you as soon as they become available." Now based on my previous experience, this could take months. Following are just a few sample pages on the website: https://www.dealwithautism.com/oppositional-defiant-disorder-treatment-and-odd-case-study/ https://www.dealwithautism.com/tourette-syndrome-symptoms-treatment-for-tourettes/ https://www.dealwithautism.com/autism-test-for-toddlers/ I believe the quality of these pages are quite good for a small new website.
Then what does Bing mean by "website not meeting standards"? Am I missing a piece of the puzzle? I would have thought that Google was more quality focused than Bing but my SEO performance in Google is currently exceeding my expectation. Can you experts please help me out here?0 -
Pages Returning A 403 Error
Hiya Moz Community I hope you are all great, I have a question regarding one of my websites, I have the main site and 2 sub folder sites essentially, I decided to upgrade one of the sites and placed it in a different sub folder, I then set up a 301 redirect to the new location, so far so good, I have been having a look at my link profile using AHrefs, inside there is an SEO report facility, I ran the report and I have over 500 pages returning a 403 or Forbidden error. my question is whether the Equity from those pages is being passed to the new site? I actually removed all the old site from Google Cache to avoid misleading visitors, I suppose I could set the re-directs up manually if I the equity is not being passed to the new site although I was under the impression it would be, or 85% - 90% of it would be anyway. The reason why I am asking is that I have seen a significant drop in rankings for keywords that my site has always ranked highly for. thought I would see if you guys can clear that up for me. Thanks and regards Wes Dunn

"No Index, No Follow" or No Index, Follow" for URLs with Thin Content?
Greetings MOZ community: If I have a site with about 200 thin content pages that I want Google to remove from their index, should I set them to "No Index, No Follow" or to "No Index, Follow"? My SEO firm has advised me to set them to "No Index, Follow" but on a recent MOZ help forum post someone suggested "No Index, No Follow". The MOZ poster said that telling Google the content was should not be indexed but the links should be followed was inconstant and could get me into trouble. This make a lot of sense. What is proper form? As background, I think I have recently been hit with a Panda 4.0 penalty for thin content. I have several hundred URLs with less than 50 words and want them de-indexed. My site is a commercial real estate site and the listings apparently have too little content. Thanks, Alan

Recovering from index problem
Hi all. For a while, we've been working on http://thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/. Everything was going swimmingly, and we had a top 5 ranking for the term 'bird hides' for this page - http://thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/products/bird-hides. Then disaster struck! The client added a link with a faulty parameter in the Joomla back end that caused a bunch of duplicate content issues. Before this happened, all the site's 19 pages were indexed. Now it's just a handful, including the faulty URL (<cite>thewilddeckcompany.co.uk/index.php?id=13</cite>) This shows the issue pretty clearly. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Athewilddeckcompany.co.uk&oq=site%3Athewilddeckcompany.co.uk&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.2178j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 I've removed the link, redirected the bad URL, updated the site map and got some new links pointing at the site to resolve the problem. Yet almost two month later, the bad URL is still showing in the SERPs and the indexing problem is still there. Any ideas? I'm stumped!

Rich Snippets Publisher errors
Hi all. Happen to do a bit of testing with some of our microformat and microdata markup when I noticed our linked Google+ Publisher markup has stopped working. It definitely was working, and nothings changed, but now we are flagging errors, and I've noticed some of our competitors also have the same problem. publisher linked Google+ page = https://plus.google.com/103929635387487847550

Error: This page does not include verified publisher markup. Learn more. If I actually add a duplicate rel="publisher" then I get the following results: Extracted Author/Publisher for this page publisherlinked Google+ page = https://plus.google.com/103929635387487847550
Error: This page does not include verified publisher markup. Learn more. publisherlinked Google+ page = https://plus.google.com/103929635387487847550/ The second line doesn't seem to flag an error? I know this is still all pretty new, so is anyone else having problems or odd results, or is Google having some problems? All our other rich snippets such as reviews etc are working fine, just seems to be the publisher bit. cheers Steve0
