Multiple Locations
-
Hi Community,
I am having a little difficulty with a new company I am working with that has multiple brick and mortar stores.
They have 5 locations. 3 in Portland, OR, 1 in Los Angeles and 1 in Las Vegas. The is technically an e-commerce site but the employer wants to drive customers into local showrooms unless they live outside of local areas. They have every minimal traffic outside of local areas.
At the moment the page title is "Company Name | Rugs Portland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Their PR is #1 in Google for Rugs Portland, Las Vegas and number #5 for Rugs Los Angeles. They are not in the top 50 for the term "rug".
My question is, "Should I leave the title alone or break up each location into separate landing pages and tackle long-tail keywords that are not local and have more monthly searches?"
Also, Domain Authority is 33.
Thanks for the help,

I would absolutely create individual landing pages for each location. This should be part of your foundation, and will best allow you to promote the brick and mortar locations, both on the site and via directories.
As for the 2nd part of your question, I think you are asking if you should then use the homepage title tag to go after general keywords that could lead to ecommerce sales? If so, my gut says that you should leave the homepage as is, and create new subpages for non-local long tail words. That said, all pages of the site should include info about all 3 cities, so you are not looking at an either/or situation.

Proper use of location in keywords
¿If I want to track keywords in a specific location, do I need to write the keyword with the location or only the keyword? For example: If I want to track the results of the keyword "hair salon" in a specific city, should I write "Hair salon in (city chosen) or only hair salon.

Page ranking well for multiple keywords but which to optimize for?
I have a home page of a website that ranks well for multiple keywords and is the main source of conversions for the site. Obviously I would like to optimize the page to increase its rankings and click through rate on search results. But I cannot optimize for all can I? If I optimize for one or two then it seems to me the others will suffer. What is the best strategy here? Should I focus on creating new pages for each individual keyword and work on those instead?

Does Using Brand/Company Name in Title on Multiple Pages Cause Cannibalization
I'm trying to rank for brand-name related keywords for a website. Most of the titles on the site include the page topic followed by the brand-name separated by bars or dashes (ex: title= widget | My Brand). Is this creating cannibalization for the brand-related terms? I was wondering if it was better to leave the brand out of the title all together except on a dedicated page. However, due to the nature of the business I work for there are multiple recognized iterations of the name including acronyms and long-form and short-form versions and creating content for each targeted iteration seems superfluous.

Target multiple keywords on homepage?
Hello. I've got a situation in which I could use some help. A client is in the business of auto parts for European cars. He is VERY stubborn in wanting his homepage to rank 1st page for a keyword for each car brand, for example: audi autoparts bmw autoparts mercedes benz autoparts jaguar autoparts Basically, 15 keywords (one per brand) in total. How would you guys handle this? I can't seem to find a natural way to optimize a homepage for all these keywords at once. I've suggested landing pages for each brand/keyword, but he won't accept it. Is there anyway to do this or will this be a dispute with my client to convince him about the landing pages idea? Thanks a lot!

How can I easily track multiple keywords for multiple pages?
We are creating landing pages to target keywords, and would like to be able to have something set up so at a glance we can see each page's rank for its targeted keyword. For example, if we have pages with the URLs of example.com/sites/purple-widgets, example.com/sites/purple-widgets-for-cheap, example.com/sites/cheap-purple-widgets, etc., we'd like to see the rank of each of those pages for their respective keyword ("purple widgets", "purple widget for cheap", "cheap purple widgets", etc.). Any suggestions?

Using city location in keywords?
Hi all, new to SEO MOZ and SEO in general. I'm trying to do some keyword research to choose keywords and keyphrases for on page SEO as well as an Adwords campaign for a real estate agency that focuses on luxury high rise condos and homes in the Dallas area. My question is, when choosing keywords do you need to include your location in the key phrase? For instance luxury real estate or dallas luxury real estate? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Local SEO: By city, by multiple cities, or by region?
My client is a kitchen remodeling company in Sterling, Virginia and is trying to rank well in local results. I am struggling with keyword selection mostly because I am still learning about local SEO. The city the company is located is Sterling, however their business comes from several other close by cities like Reston, Herndon, and Fairfax (Nobody lives in Sterling so they don't care too much about owning that in search engines). Is the right strategy: 1. Choosing one city and focusing on that (kitchen remodeling in reston, VA) 2. Optimizing for multiple cities (kitchen remodeling, reston, herndon, fairfax...) 3. Optimizing for an entire region (kitchen remodeling, northern virginia) I know it's hard to answer this with little information but gut reactions would be appreciated. I am a new SEOmoz member so excuse me if this question is too specific for this forum. I'm still getting a feel for the community. Thanks! Sean
