Have question about usage of similar keywords on single vs multiple pages within the same site...
-
I am working on a campaign with someone and have been talking back and forth about some keyword usage thoughts. More precisely multiple keywords that are similar and how to use them on the page for best results in ranking without diluting our own work to rank well.
Example:
Keywords:
Vehicle Wraps
Vehicle Wraps Phoenix
Phoenix Vehicle Wraps
Car Wraps
Car Wraps Phoenix
Phoenix Car WrapsOne thought is that the keywords are so similar that it would best benefit us to target one page to the grouping of like keywords and long-tail keywords, and not making separate pages as to create competition for the same keyword within the site itself. Also that Google is "smart" enough to see that car wraps and vehicle wraps are like keywords, and that car wraps when linked to a site from Phoenix, will also pull as Car Wraps Phoenix.
The other thought is we target one page for each separate keyword although the keywords are so similar.
What are your thoughts? I wanted to ask all of your thoughts as I am sure your feedback will be enlightening. (Always helpful!!)
Thank you!

Thanks for your input Aaron. Makes a lot of sense to me.

I've had good results grouping the keywords by synonyms and longtails.
Using my main keywords and their synonyms on that keywords landing page, while using longtails of that keyword on different material related product pages and product landing pages. Google picked them up right away, but you need to make sure content is there.
Write down your pages ( as long as their not into the hundreds ) if so do the top 50. And write down lists of keywords to target on each page, then the content can be worded naturally to best fit and rank for.
If you do this right, you can rank multiple pages for one keyword due to the context of the content. If it's different enough but still relative google thinks it's all that and so do your users.

Hi Jeff,
You are right Everyone plays this differently. The way we do it is group keywords for one page. No point trying to overdo it as google might see those pages as a doorway page Click here to see more. This normally hits larger sites but i have seen smaller sites get done by this too.
Its better to play itself and put a good 1000 words onto one page with a group of keywords than have 5 pages with less useful content.
Thanks, Aaron

Finding main keywords associated with a competitors page
A key part of my content creation decision is identifying keywords that have been successful for competitors. Ahrefs has a feature that allows me to see the keywords that have resulted in organic traffic for a particular page. So, for example, I can identify CompanyA as a competitor, find their top pages and, for each one, find the keywords that drove the most traffic to each of those pages. The information reported includes the monthly search volumes associated with each keyword, plus the number of visits driven to the page based on that keyword. That is very interesting to me. I am a long time Moz subscriber and want to find a way to do this here. Is there any way to do this with Moz features? I can't justify both a Moz and AHrefs subscription so I have a tough choice to make if Moz doesnt' support this. I'm hoping I am just missing that here. Thanks. Mark

How do I use two keywords?
Hello! I am ranking very well with a keyword. But that same keyword without an S at the end (making it singural) gets quite a few more searches per month according to Google's Keyword Tool. However, dropping the S just doesn't sound quite right or make as much sense. So how can I target both keywords? Thanks in advance!

How many times to use a keyword on a page?
Okay, so i have read around, and watched Matt Cutts' video on this and read rand's post about this. But, I still have questions; how many times should I use a keyword on a page? I have read for shorter pages 2-3X and 4-6X for longer pages. I know to put it in the url title h1, the first paragraph and sprinkle it around the page. Is it all realtive to how long the content is? or should I just be following the 2-3X and 4-6X rule? Thanks for your help. Peter
