Global Product Tabs and SEO
-
I am looking at a site that has global or duplicated content in 4 tabs for things like shipping, quality etc on tabs on each product page. The content is very good for UX and helps conversions but poor for SEO. Each product page has unique and tagged photos, unique title and a unique description. Is there away to specifically tell search engines that individual parts of a page are duplicated for good reason?
Linking to the content to a single page decreases conversion dramatically but having it on tabs could effect ranking and quality as it is duplicated. Can anyone offer any advice with this?

We have tabbed content that's the same across PDPs on one of our sites. I highly doubt it will hurt you. Cutts has stated that duplicate content isn't a big deal for ecommerce sites.

Hi,
Yes what are you looking to do is implement a canonical tag this way you can point to the pages that have the large amount of quality data and it will essentially tell Google that this is essentially content that will be considered okay / non-duplicate not for one page and it will stop the search engine from thinking it is duplicate content it is very similar to a redirect here is some more information.
It is also very simple to implement for instance this is a example of using the code
http://moz.com/learn/seo/duplicate-content
http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/duplicate-content-problems/
http://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization
http://moz.com/blog/rel-confused-answers-to-your-rel-canonical-questions
in addition to running the Moz campaign I would do a quick check of your site with a few tools
https://moz.com/researchtools/crawl-test
http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/auditor/
http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/screaming-frog-guide
use with
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
http://deepcrawl.co.uk ( if you have a larger site over 100,000 URI this is the tool for you)
I hope the references I have given above along with information I have shared will be enough to help you fixed the duplicate content issue.
here is a what word Friday with Rand discussing canonical tag and cross domain while cross domain may not be relevant the information about the canonical tag is very relevant so I have chosen to give you this link in addition to the video attached below because I do not know which is easier for you to use.

deep crawl ( a truly awesome tool)
screaming frog SEO spider ( outstanding tool but larger sites hundred thousand pages or more deep crawl is what you want)
I hope this is of some help
sincerely,
Thomas

URL Parameters for Product Variation
Hey there Mozzers, So I have a website that uses URL Parameters for product variations. So for example when I am in the product "test" that product has 5 different variations. So the url is as followed /product/test /products/test?variant=10271886529 /products/test?variant=10271886530 etc. Does Google understand that this is the same page ? Does it automatically exclude the variable in the url?

IP redirect possible SEO issues?
Hi I help manage a small eCommerce business that sells worldwide. We currently have 4 stores www.tidy-books.com (US site) www.tidy-books.co.uk (UK) www.tidy-books.eu (EU) www.tidy-bboks.com.au (AU) We have auto redirect based on the country of your IP. The .com is the route address though. Currently I have decided to focus all my energies with link building etc on .com as it seems to carry the most weight and being a very small team we don't have the resources for separate campaigns for all websites at the moment. Whilst I've done on site SEO with country in mind i.e for US kids instead of children. I'm just wondering if you can see any pitfalls in this approach, Ideally I would like to have a team focus on each store separately and have them as separate domains but with the IP redirect we at least rank well in Google for the .com and the customers gets sent to the relevant store. Any thoughts would be great

Best way to host new product?
Hi guys We are launching a new product, the web pages are being built by a 3rd party and fall outside our current CMS. We're considering either hosting it on 1) sub domain 2) folder within existing site (although will be tricky to implement) or 3) a different URL altogether. What would you say is the best for SEO? Many thanks in advance.... Nigel

Product category paging
Hi, My product categories have 2-3 pages each. I have paging implemented with rel=next and rel=prev. from some reason Google GWT now reports the pages as having duplicate titles and description. Should I be worried? Should I set a different title like "blue category - page x" ? Thanx, Asaf

Keywords and content and seo advice please
Hi i am building a site at the moment which i am working on. please ignore the state of the site as we are just playing with designs at the moment but please do take notice of the top part. The site is a travel magazine but i am a bit concerned. The keywords that we will be looking at to drive travel will be as follows, cheap flights gatwick, holiday magazine and travel magazine. Now i do not want the site to look untidy with loads of content describing the site but at the same time i want google to know what the site is and for people to pick the site up with the search terms that we are aiming for. the site is www.cheapflightsgatwick.com Can anyone please show me some examples of how i should structure the site to attract the keywords and give me some advice. It seems hard when you are designing a magazine site where the content changes all the time to try and attract the search engines with your keywords. any advice would be great
