How best to gain Followed Linking Root Domains?
-
Hi All,
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I've had a look through the Q&A sections and I couldn't really see anyone who'd asked the question as direct as this?
Basically, I'm using the SEOMoz competitive domain analysis to compare some of our domains and our competitors domains and see where we're falling down. At the minute, we seem to be only scoring around '31', whereas our two closest competitors as 32 and 33 on the overall score. This still seems pretty low to me (maybe it's not) so I'm assuming we can make some good headway.
At the minute, the analysis shows that we're beating our competitors hands down with the number of links to our site, these are all relatively good quality and they haven't just been spammed out there to gain links.
We are however struggling to get followed linking root domains. As I understand it, these are basically just links from domains not on the same IP that are followed?
Since I've seen this, I've looked through the open site explorer and gone through all of our competitors sites to get backlinks from URL's linking to them. I've had fairly good success with this but they only seem to have gone up by 1 - 2 links. Does this only get updated once a month?
In addition to this, does anyone have any tips on how to build up followed linking domains?
Kind Regards
Lewis -
Thanks for the replies!
Yeah, I assumed they might take a few months to update as the pages may not be indexed straight away, so I'll hope that's the case.
I've written some good content on our Blog that should filter through and sent out a press release today that's gone out to 10,000+ people via PRWeb. I'm hoping that will build up a few links and create a discussion of some kind on our blog but we'll have to see.
Thanks for the tips so far, if anyone else has anything to add. Please let me know.
Cheers
Lewis

Yes, this actually might take a few months depending on the site linking to you. And as EGOL has pointed out, great unique content, then promote it. I would add promoting in social networks as well. Always include ShareThis and Facebook LIKE on each page of content as this will help people share the content.

Does anyone have any tips on how to build up followed linking domains?
Create best-on-the-web content for the most popular topics in your industry niche, then promote them to the bloggers, professional associations and authority websites who cover that niche.

A single metric to evaluate link quality?
We're using Moz and Ahrefs to monitor backlinks that we're getting to Siftery. Given that there are so many factors that affect the potential quality of a backlink - domain authority, page authority, context, anchor text, etc. - is there a single metric that attempts to quantify the value of a link? I realize that this would be an inexact science, but it would be a helpful view to get a quick directional sense of what are our most valuable backlinks (and be able to tie it to the campaigns that led to them, for example). If there's no "single metric" out there, are there heuristics that people have withstood the test of time? Thanks for your help!

Why is Link Count smaller than Internal Links in Crawl Test report?
We recently ran the crawl test report and for most of our pages we are getting 1150 internal links but 40-50 as the link count. Why is there such a big disparity?

OK Crawl Test Link Question Again!
I've downloaded a crawl test and column G Link Count reads 62 and yep there are a total of 62 links on the page in question. Column AM Internal Links reads 303 and yep there are somewhere in the order of 303 pages pointing at this one. Root Domains is surprisingly low at 6, so maybe there are only 6 domains linking to this page. BUT... External Links read 51. There are not 51 links pointing away from this domain on this page, no way hozay, so can anybody tell me what is meant by 'External Links? A humble thank you in anticipation of an education. Jem

OK I'll try again.... Linking root domains and external links
I'm new to the crawl test tool, I think I know what is meant by external links and linking root domains but I need to check. If there are 500 external links and 50 linking root domains does that suggest the essentially those 500 links are coming from 50 root domains? If yes, then what would 1000 linking root domains and 100 links mean? Or am I completely wrong in my assumptions and if so, can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you.

Is canonical link enough?
Hi SEOmozers! I have a question. SEOmoz analysis report me some duplicate that I thought I had fix. I can give a concrete example. This page: http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/dec2011training-boston/moreinfo is reported as having 6 duplicated URL in the tool. When I click on 6, SEOMOZ tells me "Our crawl bots are getting their joints greased to fetch you even better data. Sorry for the delay!" And on the page itself, I placed a canonical link to follow recommandation. rel="canonical" href="http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/apr2012training-boston" /> As a result I am curious why I would have this reported as duplicate by SEOmoz. Is this a bug? Thanks for feedback!

Campaigns - domains / sub domains
Dear SEOmoz folk, At the moment, I have one (rather large) site set up as a campain. I have decided to split off parts of my site into sub domains. My question is, can I set up these sub domains as a completely separate campaign on here? I'd very much like the crawl reports separated out for each one. A very real fear I have is that my site is well over double 10,000 pages, so I never truly see the actual number of errors that I have. Thoughts appreciated. Many thanks, Matt

HUGE LINK!PR9 Not showing up
Hi ,My site is ranking very well.Although lacking large numbers of links ,Im only able to grasp the bottom page of First Page, Im in the position #6 through Position #10 with approximately 44 keywords. Its been about a year now so i think im doing well .. ** Here is my problem,** I recently was able to pick up a few very good High ranking backlinks ,They are in the Range of pr8 & 9 they have huge amounts of links pointing to them,One of them is a Dot Edu back link..Niether one of these are showing up..In fact , In the open site explorer i had a couple very high domain rank backlinks showing as my top link. This been there for 7 months They are gone...Now i have these 2 new backlinks both pr8 and pr9 not showing up in the top of the list..They are both cached .I can see them in the cached links .. ** But where the heck is my new links ??? been about 1-2 months ..shoudnt these show up in the top of open site exploreer?? Very aggrevating...Could this be open site explorer reading the site differently month after month??**
