Can you reference http and https in a sitemap.xml?

I have a site where some pages (in Spanish) are https. The english pages are http. Can you tell me if it's okay to have both in the sitemap.xml?
-
After reading some Google documentation I set it up like this:
<url><loc>http://www.mexpro.com/</loc>
<lastmod>2014-08-25T21:02:47+00:00</lastmod>
<changefreq>monthly</changefreq>
<priority>1.00</priority>
<xhtml:link <br="">rel="alternate"
hreflang="es-mx"
href="https://www.mexpro.com/mx/"
/>
<xhtml:link <br="">rel="alternate"
hreflang="en"
href="http://www.mexpro.com/"
/>
<xhtml:link <br="">rel="canonical"
href="http://www.mexpro.com/mexico/"
/></xhtml:link></xhtml:link></xhtml:link></url>Do I need rel="alternate" and rel="canonical" for the sitemap, or is it better to do a traditional sitemap for English and Spanish?Thank you.

I think you can, I always would make it two different sitemaps though to also have the data for the specific languages.

XML Sitemap After On Page Changes
Hi everyone, could anyone please help me understand what to do next with the xml sitemap after making on page changes? For example, a website has an already existing xml sitemap and it's submitted to Google search console. We make changes to the website - URL structure, content, added new pages, 301 redirected broken links etc. for optimisation. Is there anything that we should do to change/update their current xml sitemap? Does it automatically update itself? Do we have to resubmit their xml sitemap to search console? Thanks!

How updating a post can influence seo
I have just read this great post from moz blog: http://moz.com/blog/google-fresh-factor But I haven't found nothing about updating post date. If I edit an old great post (now ranked 2nd after several months in 1st serp position) does it be better if I also update the date of the post in the wordpress post edit page? Thank you very much and sorry for my poor english. Bye, Dario.

Which version of the homepage on the sitemap?
We have been wondering this for a while now. When we build our sitemaps, or when the yoast plugin does in WP we are often left with www.yourdomain.co.uk/ and www.yourdomain.co.uk/index.html in our sitemaps. Surely it isn't healthy to have both in the sitemap. Which one should we take out? Thanks
