How important is fresh content?
-
Lets say the website you are working on has covered most of the important topics on your subject. How important is it that you continue to add content to it when there really may not be much that is so relevant to your users anymore? Can a site continue to rank well if nothing new is added to the site for year but continues to get good quality links?
-
Hi Demi
Is the blog on a sub-domain of the main site or a separate domain.
If it is on a sub domain, then this counts as fresh content. if it is not you might want to think about moving the Blog to a sub domain.
Can you let us know
Bruce.

Content for the page is really where we are having a problem because we really do have most relevant topics covered. As far as blogging, that's not a problem we can always find new "news" to write about in the industry.
So I guess I am talking more about the content, and not blogs. If we aren't adding new content on a typical page, is that ok?
-
I also agree with Ray-pp & BruceA.
You CAN continue to rank well. However, I wouldn't suggest that you abandon blogging about trending topics within said websites industry. There is ALWAYS something that can be explained better/improved upon or something fresh and new to talk about with our audience.
Question: When you are asking about adding content, are you referring to your typical page content or are you referring to blogging?
-
Agreed.
Find new unique angles to keep the site content unique and fresh, For most business's seasons, annual or quarterly events either in the business or outside can provide insites and a great reason to add more current content to the existing content already provided.
If you are a bit stuck, let us a bit more about the industry so we can perhaps give a few more angles to help give you some ideas.

Hi DemiGR,
Yes, your site can continue to rank well. If the topics genuinely do not warrant updated content, then link building will most likely keep you at the top of the SERPs. However, you're inviting the competition to come in and outrank you somewhat easily.
When you're not producing fresh content, competitors can easily rank by creating authority pages and then adding layers of fresh, related content. I suggest finding relevant topics to write about and point back to yoru authority pages (the topics that don't change much).
For example, is there a recent new article related to your website content? Speak on that topic and link back to the authority page that explains the topic in depth. Using current events is an easy way to add new content to your site and keep things relevant.

How important is Social Media for building domain authority / Google rankings? Are there any cases?
I really would like to know if someone tested the importance of Social Media for Google rankings.

Are there some sites who build authority only by doing good social media?
Ofcourse, I know it is all about the mix (content, linkbuilding, social media, etc.) but how important is it?
I know many sites who rank good without any form of social media, but I do not know any sites who do only social media and rank high. I hope there are some good cases which give good insight. ps. I know it becomes more and more important...0 -

Duplicate content advice
Im looking for a little advice. My website has always done rather well on the search engines, although it have never ranked well for my top keywords on my main site as they are very competitive, although it does rank for lots of obscure keywords that contain my top keywords or my top keywords + City/Ares. We have over 1,600 pages on the main site most with unique content on, which is what i attribute to why we rank well for the obscure keywords. Content also changes daily on several main pages. Recently we have made some updates to the usability of the site which our users are liking (page views are up by 100%, time on site us up, bounce rate is down by 50%!).

However it looks like Google did not like the updates....... and has started to send us less visitors (down by around 25%, across several sites. the sites i did not update (kind of like my control) have been unaffected!). We went through the Panda and Penguin updates unaffected (visitors actually went up!). So i have joined SEOmoz (and loving it, just like McDonald's). I am now going trough all my sites and making changes to hopefully improve things above and beyond what we used to do. However out of the 1,600 pages, 386 are being flagged as duplicate content (within my own site), most/half of this is down to; We are a directory type site split into all major cities in the UK.
Cities that don't have listings on, or cities that have the same/similar listing on (as our users provide services to several cities) are been flagged as duplicate content.
Some of the duplicate content is due to dynamic pages that i can correct (i.e out.php?***** i will noindex these pages if thats the best way?) What i would like to know is; Is this duplicate content flags going to be causing me problems, keeping in mind that the Penguin update did not seem to affect us. If so what advise would people here offer?
I can not redirect the pages, as they are for individual cities (and are also dynamic = only one physical page but using URL rewriting). I can however remove links to cities with no listings, although Google already have these pages listed, so i doubt removing the links from my pages and site map will affect this. I am not sure if i can post my URL's here as the sites do have adult content on, although is not porn (we are an Escort Guide/Directory, with some partial nudity). I would love to hear opinions0 -
Redesign, new content, new domain and 301 redirects (penalty?)
We merged our old webshops into one big project. After a few days we received our rankings back and traffic was coming in. Then suddenly we lost almost all rankings overnight. We did not use any wrong seo techniques and have unique content, written by our own writers. Is this a penalty or do we have to wait longer?

How to retain those rankings gained from fresh content...
Something tells me I know the answer to this question already but I'd always appreciate the advice of fellow professionals. So.....fresh content is big now in Google, and i've seen some great examples of this. When launching a new product or unleashing (yes unleashing) a new blog post I see our content launches itself into the rankings for some fairly competitive terms. However after 1-2 weeks these newly claimed rankings begin to fade from the lime light. So the question is, what do I need to do to retain these rankings? We're active on social media tweeting, liking, sharing and +1ing our content as well as working to create exciting and relevant content via external sources. So far all this seems to have do is slow the fall from grace. Perhaps this is natural. But i'd love to hear your thoughts, even if it is just keep up the hard work.

Importance of Product Review Syndication?
Greetings everyone I have been tasked to do research on just how important it is to have product reviews syndicated with Google's (star rating found in Google Shopping). I am unable to find any research reports or studies on this nor any quantitative data on it's impact, beneficial or otherwise. If any of you folks have any first hand experiences, perhaps some before and after figures, that would be great. Thanks
