Handling External links to articles in a blog
-
I have a blog that has it's own articles but then also want to feature third-party sites that have my op-ed content on them. Wondering what is the best practice for handling external links.
The reason we want to do this:
- Make sure our followers and people who subscribe to our blog see all our content (especially when a third-party "high authority" publisher is featuring articles from our authors
- We also want to be able to get a ranking for the article title when someone searches for it on Search Engines. i.e I write an article for hubspot called "my article about something". When googling "my article about something" I want to see both the Hubspot listing (where my article originated on) as well as a link to my website where I show an abstract (original abstract) and then the link links to the hubspot article.
For example:
(renders a listing of articles with links to each individual article)
If showing an "abstract" for the blog article and then linking out to the third-party source (where content is featured)
www.myblog.com/category/post-title
(renders actual article page)
When showing an individual post-title page what are the minimum requirements (META TAGS, length or amount of characters ,etc)
Thanks in advance!

How you implement this will determine whether you get more visibility in search results or harm your own efforts on-site and off-site.
Here are some key points:
Never duplicate the full content across multiple sites if you can avoid that. Duplication of entire entries just forces Google to "figure it all out" and they often do so poorly.
Two solid methods that can both work for your overall needs:
1. Create a "Press" or similar section in your site. Each time a new article shows up in a trusted off-site location, add it to your press section. Either just the Titles and a unique snippet explaining what's contained in the off-site article, or with more info, as long as the info is almost all unique, and not copied from the off-site version.
If you generate a lot of these, be sure to use proper indexable pagination in your site's list of outbound press links.
2. Write full blog articles on your own site that link to those articles, but where you go deep in your own content - make it mostly unique and only do so if you are sure it's a quality piece in its own right.
Either way can work - the 2nd version is more likely to get both the off-site and your own piece indexed most of the time, however if the "press" versions are also robust, they can rank as well.
Here's a screen-capture of how I did that for one of my best articles a couple years ago. The 1st entry is the original article, the 2nd entry is my own site's page about it.

Links from my Own Blog to my Own Website and Link Scheme
Hi There, I use my own blog to give advices and offer information related to my business service. Of course in terms of SEO my blog is useful not only to expand my brand presence but also to acquire long-tail traffic. I use to insert a maximum of one link with a relative matching anchor text in every article of my blog pointing to my own webpage. Said that, the questions are as follows: Am I involuntarily participating in a Link Scheme with my blog? And If so, how many links can I send to my own webpage ? Shall I limit the number of links to a minimum? Thanks a lot for your advices.

When leaving guest posts on blogs, are blog profiles such as Disqus relevant for SEO?
In other words, instead of the comment linking back to the money site it is being linked back to a blog profile which contains a link to the money site. Is this still as effective?

Root Domain Link for Affiliate's Link
It seems my affiliate link: http://www.hrmsplugins.com?partners=21 is not being considered as a "root domain" backlink when this link is used on their website. Is there a reason for this?

I am thinking of starting a couple off site blogs for myself. 1 I might share some client information and link building and the other would be for me to rant. I was thinking about doing a wordpress or blogger blog, someone recommended Tumblr. Anyone have any suggestions?

Why aren't links to my site from YouTube showing up in my link reports?
Our company is paying for a service to create hundreds of videos/month for us with links back to our primary domain. If I go to YouTube I see the videos with the links, but YouTube does not show in my link reports. Why not?

Getting a link from a blog on every page querying what OSE is suggesting
Hi Guys My client has been offered a link from someone within their industry on their blog. The blog has 20 categories and multiple (hundreds if not more pages within each category). The owner of the website has said that would be happy to give my client a link on each of their pages (including their homepage). They have done this for another couple of people who they like before, so I typed these domains into OSE and noticed that for each page it shows a link and also the page authority. Domain Authority of this blog giving the link is 71 Home Page PA - 76 About us PA - 60 it goes on.........the least PA being shown is 52 so lets for arguements sake say the other 18 or say categories are PA of 52 too. My question is surely the OSE is not accurate to imply that my client could be passed page authority from 18 categories at 52 each + home page of 76 + about me page of 60? Hopefully you understand the point I'm trying to make

Do No follow links from social media platforms transfer authority or value when they link to third party websites?
With social media playing a bigger role in SEO (since the Panda, Penguin updates etc) and how search engines rank sites now, does anybody know why Twitter for instance has 'no follow' when I check my client's websites under 'inbound links' on Open Site Explorer?
