Branding vs. Keyword Optimization for Company title.
-
I have a new SEO client that I am working on putting together an optimization strategy and have come across something that has me second guessing.
Reach out to Moz Community...
The client is a doctor who runs a tattoo removal clinic out of his office. Technically they are two separate businesses: doctors office and tattoo removal clinic.
The tattoo removal clinic is my client. They have an independent website where they generate leads.
The website is not the brand name. It is [city]tattooremoval.com. The logo on the site, heading, footer all reflect the web URL.
The actual brand name for the company is used in all the directory listings, facebook page, google+, basically everywhere else on the internet.
When drafting up new meta titles, putting together content, everything really, the website URL has primary keywords included making it way more convenient to use that.
However I'm not sure how it will look to the search engines about having everything pointing to the site be one company title and when you get to the site not see the company title in the logo or titles and such. The company name is just down in the corner somewhere on the page.
Anyone with any experience to a similar issue?
On one hand I think I'm over thinking it, not having the brand name on the home page title tag shouldn't be a huge deal if the website delivers value to the customer. On the other hand I don't see a lot of companies that do this online in general (especially with larger brands), although research shows a many of companies in this niche using the [city] + keyword (or vise vera).

I agree with Sheena. A focus on the domain name as a brand is so yesteryear. And what's worse, having an EMD makes it almost impossible not to have it stand out as brand-like. These days, when I see them in the search results, I'm skeptical and will often click on something else just to avoid them. While I may not be typical, there may come a time when such is typical. In fact, I don't preclude a future where it may be better to move to a brand domain name and 301 the EMD to that .
Absolutely focus on the brand and forget the domain. That will be helpful to you in the long run.

Oh the woes of exact match domains...
If I were you, I'd try to work in the actual brand name, even if it's just a logo or branded tagline somewhere in the header. As you explained, it wouldn't be very good for visitors to arrive at a site that has almost no reference to the brand they thought they were visiting the website for. I would also look into a possible rebrand that works the primary KW (tattoo removal) into the brand name - "[Brand Name] Tattoo Removal." With that, you could build out a location page that reinforces the target city with local SEO.

Keyword and SERP Help Please
So I am curious about keyword placements etc. My main question is: So is whatever you search for in say Google must be the same in a website - to be found? So say you search for plumbers in Colorado Then you must have that exact, same phrase, in your website to be found? or does Google know based on title tags and such that a page is about plumbers and they service Colorado? I just want to make sure I am understanding how keywords work to be found. I mean you can have Colorado plumbers and plumbers in Colorado. So its hard to figure out how to use keywords. So a brief suggestion is greatly appreciated Chris

The need of two-keyword optimization in the same page
Hi there! Due to the business model of my company I have to optimize two keywords in one page. I just asked about this question before and someone told me thant as long as they refer to the same concept and have almost the same "meaning", it is possible. The problem is how to face it up. I mean, there's one H1 label, one title, etc....and what's the "policy" of key distribution in the content in order to priorice these keywords? What you guys recommend? many thanks

Which is better, have our location in the title or have a title that is 66 characters?
I was told by an SEO company that I need to put our name and location in every page title, however, an seomoz.org campaign gave me warnings for having a page title that is too long. Which is better, have our location in the title or have a title that is 66 characters? We have both a physical and online store, so it would still be nice to direct foot traffic to our physical store.

Pages vs Posts
What are your thoughts on pages vs posts? I am setting up a new blog for a client but not sure how to structure the content. I may just do posts or a whole bunch of page listed down the sidebar. It seems like my pages always rank better than my posts. Has anyone else noticed this? Could it be because of the dates tied posts?

Global Meta Data and Titles
I am working on an e-commerce website with Volusion. I have 1 main keyword that I am really trying to focus on for my home page. Last week I was in position #7 for this keyword, and I have never been off the first page of Google for it. Using Volusion you can Globally set a Title and meta description for any pages that do not already have a title or description. I noticed my Global title had the same keyword as I was using for my home page and thought that, that might be taking away some importance from my keyword, so I changed the Global Title to a different keyword. When I looked at my SEO moz rankings today, which crawled last night it said My keyword was #24 on Google. I checked and as of now I am in position #11. Like I said before, I have never not been on the first page for this keyword. Does anyone think that changing the Global title may have been the cause for this??

Keyword optimization of main keyword across site.
My site is optimized for keyword "payment gateway" but it seems for each keyword only one page should be optimized as per good SEO. So if I've a page about Paypal then how should I spread the keywords? Here the main will be Paypal and site keyword will be payment gateway. It means site should have more Paypal than payment gateway. But can payment gateway be in 3rd or 4th position in density? Similarly how should I create other pages? How search engines determine the site authority based on keyword? ( let us ignore the external backlinks, context of them and anchor texts).

Optimization for pages with lists of data
I am looking for some ideas on what best practices are for pages that contain lists similar to this page: http://www.backcountrysecrets.com/outdoor-sport/15/places-to-swim-and-swimming-holes.aspx Is it better to break up the list into seperate pages of 25 listings or keep everything on the same page?
