Title tag terminology on website
-
Hi,
I own a website (www.maleribasen.dk), which i'm currently making SEO on.The site actually ranks pretty good, top 1-2 on important searches.
The title tag on the frontpage (and lots of other pages too) are "Maleribasen.dk - Buy and sell paintings" (translatated from danish - Maleri means painting).
I'm thinking of changing the titles to "Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk"
And then try to use the convention "| Maleribasen.dk" on every other title page. Sometimes use "Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk" as convention when title is too small.
Like the overview of articles would be something like "Articles - Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk"
A specific article would be "How to paint using oil painting | Maleribasen.dk"
What do you guys think?

Thanks for your answers. That helps a lot.
I'm still strugling with exactly how to do it.
The domainname "Maleribasen.dk" basically meaning "Paintingsdatabase" is not a "brand" as so, but it's one of the most popular private gallerysites, which is a "niche" market thou.
The latest article's subject is translated from danish "How to price my own painting?" and it's an article to help the artists with putting the right pricetag on their paintings.
So, how would u do the title-tag on this article?
1. How to price my own painting? | Maleribasen.dk
2. How to price my own painting? - Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk
3. How to price my own painting?Or something else?
The frontpage title I will probatly change to something like "Buy and sell paintings by private artists | Maleribasen.dk".
Before it was "Maleribasen.dk - Buy and sell paintings". -
ALWAYS brand last...keyword/keyword phrase first, left to right as Eng is written works best, eh!
Have NEVER heard any variations on same - well, from anyone that counts in the SEO world that is....

With having such a limited amount of characters that Google will show in your title, I don't think it makes sense to have the brand name in each one of the page titles (unless the brand name is a large factor in searches, and you are trying to ensure your site gets credit for being the official representation of that brand). Instead, utilize that space for adding additional or secondary keywords phrases that can help bring in additional traffic.
"A specific article would be "How to paint using oil painting | Maleribasen.dk"
This type of format can work well if you are trying to optimize for one major keyword phrase, and your whole focus (on-page and off) is around that phrase.

Hi
Yeah i agree with Tim, focus on having a unique title tag for each page which focuses on the key term you are looking to rank for. If it is a well known brand there can be an argument for putting the brand name first however if the brand is not so well known, go with the keyword first.

I am sure I read somewhere, although quite some time ago that having your domain name in the title is a good thing and at the end of the title tag is best. Based on your above comments I do feel that you are following the correct format and structure. Just remember to try and get your pages main search terms in the title that are relevant to the page.
You mention that on a lot of the other pages you are planning to use "Buy and sell paintings | Maleribasen.dk", Although a good title I would only use this once, possibly on your home page. Using the same title tag on muiltiple pages is a negative factor in my book. I would advise you to make each and every title tag unique and relevant to that individual page.
If you Articles page is made up on paginated pages also add rel="next" / "previous" to help with structure.
Hope that helps. I am sure others can also add more?
Tim

Question about Homepage Title
Hi there, I recently made a change to the title URL for my site, and it changed how Google displayed my sitemap. Before it showed the most common sites, and now it simply links to 4 of them below the domain URL without descriptions. I have attached images below which shows my problem. I hope this is the right section for this question. Thanks! 5ypdnY2 4u2HAia

Shortening Titles
Have a ecommerce site using woocommerce. Most product titles contain the information needed for the product. I have shorten the title as much as possible but; Most of the titles are about 18-19 characters over 70 characters the recommended max. I have removed all possible characters from the title but I could remove the site name - this would get it down by about 18 characters - meaning most titles would then be just under the 70 characters recommended. Would removing the site name from the title of all the products be a bigger problem than good?

Image titles and alt tags for multiple images
I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me understand the best way to optimize my image titles and alt tags for a specific situation. I'm working on an interior design website and they have hundreds of pictures. each of their projects has about 10 pictures. Is it best for me to us the key phrase in each title and tag? or is that to repetitive? here is what I mean: A project called "urban interior design" all images are of urban interior design, just different angles and features, so my initial idea is to just have each image title like this: Title: "urban interior design dinning area" Alt: "urban interior design dinning area view" Title: "urban interior design living room" Alt:"urban interior design living room couch view" Is this the best way or will it actually hurt my ranking with too much exact keyword use? Thanks for your help!

Title tag formatting
So I thought I had Title tags cracked... Unique to each page Priority phrases at the start Under 70 characters inc spaces No spamming of keyword phrase Brand at the end But do people believe that this structure is bad? <keyword 1="" phrase="">| <keyword 2="" phrase="">|<brand></brand></keyword></keyword> and that Title tags should now be structure more like full sentences? And does using the same keyword phrase on several pages dilute or cannibalize results? Thanks

Tags creating duplicated content issue?
Hello i believe a lot of us use tags in our blogs as a way to categorize content and make it easy searchable but this usually (at lease in my case) cause duplicate content creation. For example, if one article has 2 tags like "SEO" & "Marketing", then this article will be visible and listed in 2 urls inside the blog like this domain.com/blog/seo and domain.com/blog/marketing In case of a blog with 300+ posts and dozens of different tags this is creating a huge issue. My question is 1. Is this really bad? 2. If yes how to fix it without removing tags?

Panda Update and Website Content
According to the Panda Update information, website content that is or was written to help with SEO is now not the best idea, but content that is very informative and interesting is the way to go. But if you have an Ecommerce Website how can you write informative bookmarking content, if each product you sell is very similar, and the information for the product is just details about the product. Its hard to write good content for an eCommerce website. We have 300+ products that are all similar, but if we would write content about each product, it would be similar and not interesting to read. People just want to purchase the product, not read a bunch of content. How do websites that sell many products and not content driven websites rank well in search?
