Stuck on page 2
-
I had a site that was ranking for hundreds of keywords, I got hit with a link penalty, got the link penalty removed by creating disavow file, reconsideration request.
Last couple of months my site is stuck on page 2 and won't seem to move up.
Thoughts?

Follow is better than nofollow but both are good. What's more important is the relevance and authority of the site you are getting your link from.
Links should point to the most relevant page on your site given the context of the link. In general, a majority of your links should be pointing at your homepage with your brand name.

Thank you for the quick response. So you are saying continue building links. Does it matter if
1. The links are follow or not
2. Which page on my site they are linked to?
Thank you

What have you been doing the past couple of months? Disavowing a lot of links won't bring back the authority you used to have before you were hit with the penalty, so don't expect to bounce back to your old rankings.
Here is what you should be doing:
- Create additional high quality, unique, topic relevant content that uses authoritative sources and displays the information in a way that is easy to understand and easy to share.
- Find outlets that would be interested in the new high quality content and politely present them with it in a way that would give them value.
- Rinse and repeat
Do that for a few months and let me know if you are still stuck.

Redirects affect on page and domain authority
Hi - excuse me if this is stupid question but I'm rather new to this. Currently the PA for the home page is 16 and the DA 28 and I have some concerns that my efforts are being diluted. When I use OSE on www.sassandgrace.co.uk I get different link results to sassandgrace.co.uk but there is a redirect in place to sassandgrace.co.uk and cannot run a crawl report, for example, on www.sassandgrace.co.uk. The PA and DA are identical for each but the number of links different With a smallish number of links pointing to each but with a redirect in place, am I losing some of the effect or is having the redirect in place giving me all the credit for links to both addresses? Thanks

Is it recomended to block a page using the robots file if it has recieved a manual Pengiun/Panda Penalty ?
The whole idea is creating a new page altogther instead of the page that is performing poorly after the pengiun/panda update.

Example of good author page for guest posting
Hello, A client of mine is looking to guest post on other sites. What's an example of a good Author page that is working well. We're interested in knowing what to put on this page, and if the author page should be in the main navigation of my client's website. Thanks!

Does the root domain hold more power then an inner page?
Question, Lets say a new domain is launched, the root domain and an inner page target the same term. Google comes along for the first time and indexes the website. Does it see the target term on the homepage as more important then the inner page because you are putting it on the root? I get the feeling terms connected directly with the root domain have a better chance of ranking then the term being on a inner page. Any thoughts on this?

Any value in link building to local pages on my site?
If I'm trying to rank for the term 'wedding band' with my url: http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/wedding-bands will linking to local pages such as: http://www.musicliveuk.com/live-acts/hire-wedding-bands/wedding-bands-london help the main page to rank? I added the 'local' pages to try and pick up any traffic from long tail search queries but my main focus is on getting the main page to rank as the traffic from long tail queries is so small. So is it worth me spending time building links to these local pages in order to try and help the main page rank?

Link Building for a website with 170 K Pages
My website is having around 170 K webpages and every web page is meant for individual keyword. e.g. keyword for every page is height of a movie star. What should be my link building strategy Should I link other sites to index page of my website (if yes then what should be the anchor text) ? Should I link other websites to individual web pages of my website.

10,000 links in 2 minutes
Hey guys. A belated happy new year to everyone who reads this! I had a strange experience yesterday with linking from a clients website footer. Basically, the client currently has a serious duplicate content problem caused by a multiple language plug in. It has made Google believe that there are 10 different versions of the clients website online (one for each language). It is a real estate website and there are quite a few pages anyway, but with the error, I would suggest the page count is now around 10,000. We are waiting for the developer who installed the plug in to repair the problem and without thinking it through really, yesterday, we made a text link to our home page in their footer. Overnight, our rankings for the keyword we used for the text link have dropped from pos. 2 page 1 down to halfway down page 2. Is this basically a sign that it is not good have this footer link from their site? I guess it is kind of like 10,000 weighted links being added in one day right? For now we have removed the link, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark

What % Page Metrics & Social, What % Links?
It seems that a lot of the focus of SEOs, especially whitehat SEOs like SEOMoz and Distilled has shifted a lot more towards improving page metrics (bounce, return rate, etc) and social metrics. I'm curious - And of course, I'm just asking for guesses - But what percent of ranking do you think is page metrics, social metrics and other non-link based metrics and what percent do you think are link based metrics?
